Sneaking into Burning Man
Re: Sneaking into Burning Man
Sneaking into burning man is defiantly not a smart thing to do, im no admin, but i think it can prevent you from returning if you get caught cant it?? maybe not, but sounds like something that might happen. if you dont have the money id sudjest volunteer work, cheap, good ammount of time to yourself depending on what your doing and according to some one of the best ways to experience the burn. i just applied yesterday for my first volunteer year and i think its gunna be fun, :::D if you want to participate AND burn you could join lamplighters, they work i think twice a day and have a few other activities, dont know much about it though XXD so ya there ya go brodda
c = 1 gives the sequence 0, 1, 2, 5, 26,…, which tends to infinity...

People who sneak in really don't have such altruistic values...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

I tried volunteering 1 shift on my second burn (ended up volunteering for every day that year). 4 burns later I am part of a crew and enjoy every volunteering moment.
I love it, but it certainly is not for everyone.
One crucial thing about volunteering is responsibility! If you sign up for a shift, SHOW UP (early & prepared). Nothing sucks more than having someone flake. Imagine letting people down and causing someone to work a double or triple shift.

Tell me about it. I am the medical team lead for a regional and it's aggravating enough just getting the shifts filled, much less everybody showing up. This year I had a vol. who showed up for his shift during the burn, snagged a radio and them promptly disappeared for his entire shift, leaving us not only a whole in the coverage but also a golf cart team that did not have a radio. Thankfully this isn't the playa and cell phones worked.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

At minimum, let someone know if you can't make a shift.

i read a non-existent underground blog entry about the garbage collection mafia out at the trash fence that can broker coyote-like safe passage into the event ... disparate times call for disparate measures.

I really hope you meant "disparate" and not "desperate" because the first makes that whole post really wonderfully surreal...

there are tales of the bodies found in the trash bags, with "wet" garbage, that they left, too.
be careful, be very careful.
And hope, those highly motivated, intelligent and disarmingly charming Perimeter folks find out, first, so they can undo the twist tie on said garbage bag, from the outside for you.

Go out there 3 months before the event and dig a tunnel from the Frog Pond to just inside the perimeter fence and then just pop up in the middle of the night. Hopefully nobody builds some art on top of your trap door.

I assume this is unrelated to the topic? You may need money for coffee and tea at Center Camp, you may need money for ice. If you end up being taken off playa for some reason, you may need money. One of my friends was hauled off by the cops, and he needed cash for bail. Others find they need money for prescriptions filled off-playa.
You can, indeed, get by without money while you are on the playa. Getting there and back may require a spot of cash, though.

Phil, I could easily get past him. (was that you?) I would just slip him a Snickers Bar!

I love it, Phil.

. . . Man, what a dummy that van driver was. When the folks are Gate are bored and traffic is really slight, I have sat in the passenger seat while Motsky accompanied a Gatesperson on a 15 minute tour of his 18-foot (22-foot?) box truck.
That van must have been easy to toss.

bwahahahahaha, holy shit
I was casually conversating with Graidawg last night when it suddenly occurred to me that, holy shit, this 'boat' we are bringing on the roof of my car is plenty big enough to hide a human and so, will need to be opened for inspection at Gate.
FUCK
All y'all gatesperts here (I know you are reading this thread) tell me true, if we unseal it from the elements at our last stop and open the 'lid' at the back end for ya, can we avoid taking it down off the rack? Planning to come in early, Thursday morning the 23rd, so I guess we won't dislocate the line too much if it takes us an hour to pass inspection...
fuck
*note to self: bring a ladder*

Yeah, we have a roof topper and have to open it enough for them to see in.

Re: Sneaking into Burning Man
The way I understand the process, as enacted by those highly trained and motivated Gate persons, is, if it can be inspected, within and without, it would not need to be taken off the roof.
A lot will depend on how busy Gate is at that moment, and, who you get inspected by.
if there is a way (ladder) to get up to look in, it'll certainly help. otherwise, they may want to climb your car.......it's hard to tell who will do what.
But, you can improve your chances by making all easy for them.
Having GD tied to the hood, naked, might help as well.......just sayin'.........

Re: Sneaking into Burning Man
GD may prefer unstrapping and restrapping the boat to losing 2 layers of skin to the sun!
But, iirc he also likes to get naked. We'll see...
Another random element: how tall is the gate person we get? We had a real short female least year. Being a short person myself I know the actual roof of my car is invisible from the ground, much less the rack and anything on it...
yeah, we need to leave room for a ladder

Re: Sneaking into Burning Man
not even a ladder probably (depending on your car), just something to stand on.
there's usually someone tall working, or, with something to stand on, it should work.
