Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
A final thought before I attempt to get some sleep tonight/this morning. For everyone that wants to go and so far has not gotten a ticket confirmation e-mail I truly feel for you and hope you are still able to get as many tickets as you need. Good luck. But if you want a little perspective on how "your life doesn't such that much". Check out the last few pages in the "FUCK!" thread in open discussion. There are others in this world going through a lot more crap than you and they are dealing with it better than a lot of us. My heart goes out to all the Burners that have passed or had loved ones pass recently. Take a breath, look around, it can always be worse.

When listening to this track, I found it very close to this year ticketing system mentality…

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
I agree it is an excellent post. The upside of that clear thinking is that I need to start getting my campmates to fork over $675/ticket so we can make it happen again this year. This has nothing to do with "wannabe burners". It's all about scalping. Burning Man's speculation that this was friends and family does not pass the sniff test. I'm waiting for the next JRS to see what they say. I assume that after that I will be logging on to Stub Hub to get a ticket and sending emails to my campmates to see how we can get everyone a ticket. It sucks but it's the reality. I see no other solution unless they void all the tickets and start over with a personalized system.Donna Matrix wrote:cburkey

As I speak to my burner friends (out of about 50, NONE of whom received a ticket, except 2 who could afford the presales back in December) read these forums, blog/news articles that are popping up, and social networks, it seems like the overall vibe going into this year's burn has become very cynical, and has been irreversibly changed for the negative for this year. I'm thinking it may be best to take a break and come back again next year when the BORG presumably will have either reverted to the previous ticketing system or instituted a non-transferable ticket program. This whole fiasco has really flared up everyone's hostilities and egos, and gives me a bad feeling about what the vibe of this years burn will be like. I realize many of you will say 'good riddance' and 'better chance of a ticket for me' in response to seeing another person say they are feeling this way, but that further proves my reasoning behind this choice. However I have hope that the negativity caused by this ticket fiasco isn't permanent, and that things will bounce back for 2013. I hope that I am wrong and that those of you who won this lottery can make a wonderful burn.

Great post, for the record I did not win the lotto. I happen to have a friend that did, and offered me his extra at $390. Anybody else get an "extra" offer yet? I havent heard of many people in my "situation" who has a ticket because of a friend they did not count on pre lotto?
I am worried about the anxiety and vibe out there and will wait to see how things feel, but since I missed the burn in 2010 and have been going for 6 years, I think I should go this year no matter what.....I'm down to see some wreckage. Maybe I would actually have some wits to meet some of you and maybe get a chance to be a broadcaster on BMIR FM.
What kind of chaos might ensue this year? What kind of renaissance? (too early for one of those?)
Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
Only 5, that I've heard of from, of our 60 member camp got tickets. Wow. Before this mess, I was thinking positive. I thought hey, this new lottery system kind of resembles the chaos of burning man. I thought, although it's undesirable that I may be one of the unlucky that doesn't get a ticket, it's better than the scalpers getting all the tickets right? And anyway, it'll all work out in the end...
Now I see that this is chaos. But chaos of the absolutely bad kind. So much negativity, so much despair and so much anxiety. Every year I hear people around San Francisco say, "burning man is changing. It's not as great as it used to be." I feel lucky to have gone in the past few years because maybe this year it really has changed for the worse. (I always laughed at people before when I heard them say this because I always thought the statement was ridiculous and now that I'm saying it I have to laugh at myself for saying it too because it's probably still ridiculous.)
I feel so absolutely heartbroken to not have won a ticket. Before the lottery I decided that I can afford $320 for a burning man ticket this year... And it feels like a complete shame that I may not be going because I refuse to go broke for Burning Man. Could I wrangle another $60 to enter the $390 race for a ticket on March 28th? Probably, sure, why not?! (hhmm but even if I did, after the site crashes like last year, I probably would miss the boat on the $390 tickets too!) My friend told me, "just save an extra $10 a month for the next six months or don't get a parking ticket between now and August" or "hey, just put it on your credit card!" But to me, it's the principle. Life exists out side of Burning Man, money needs to be saved for other things. While the value of the Burning Man is infinite, it's against the principles of the experience to go broke just trying to get there.
I feel exactly like this guy quoted below, maybe it's best to just step this year out. Then I'll remember the spirit of Burning Man at it's best and the decision to opt out is mine alone rather than literally not being able to go it because I don't earn as much as my neighbor. **Ouch, my heart hurts just saying this**

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
Don't know if this was already posted, but the ticketing fiasco was written about in the SF Bay Guardian yesterday with Marian Goodell responding to the community. (full article) http://www.sfbg.com/pixel_vision/2012/0 ... ain-future
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE (5 PM): LLC board member Marian Goodell just returned my call and said the organization leaders huddled up today to work on solutions to problems raised by the ticket shortfalls. "We're genuinely really putting our heads together today. We're listening, we really are," she said. "It's very real for us, I get it."
She recognizes that it's a big problem for established theme camps and art collectives having tickets for only about a third of their members, a figure that she also confirmed. "It's clear that the theme camps and art projects are a significant part of the community, and this situation is causing problems for them," she said. "That's the part that will hurt us if we don't take another look at this."

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
I have always wanted to attend Burning Man and finally circumstances allowed me afford and make plans for the event this year. I got my vacation approved early by my employer and was making travel plans with a veteran Burner on the west coast which would have saved both of us travel costs as I'm in the midwest. I was very excited to participate in something that seemed to be calling out to me for many years. Everything was falling into place until I read the email and my heart just sank. I don't have the luxury of waiting until June to make arrangements, but I'm going to do everything in the Burning Man spirit to get a ticket the honest way and not succumb to scalpers. If I don't get to be part of this amazing event my heart will be broken, but at least my conscience is clear.

I am part of a Canadian group that has organized a theme camp at BM for the past several years.
This year I was dubious about the ticketing system and held off planning for this year. Turns out half the people involved in our camp have not been awarded tickets.
So much for planning anything.
This ticket system is not working.
All you need is a bigger, faster computer.
Consequently, my friends and I will not be attending.

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread
In 2007 I entered the lottery to win the chance to go see Led Zeppelin perform at the O2 Arena in London (capacity 20,000 people). The lottery system itself drew international publicity (at least that was my perception because I was living in England at the time) and MILLIONS registered for a ticket. Could all these people attend? No. Most likely a large number of people thought it'd be a great way to make a buck or two. Sure enough, the lottery ran and tickets on ebay were going for a few thousand.
BUT GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
An announcement came that the tickets were going to be registered with the credit card purchaser's name and IDs would be checked at the door.
AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
No more resell tickets on ebay for inflated prices.
O2 did it for 20,000 people, BM has an attendance of about 50,000 people. I'll happily volunteer some time to work the gate and check IDs.
SO, HELL YEAH! SPREAD IT:

Yes but then how will all the last-minute camp-mates that have beautifully tap-danced around doing any actual camp work all year as they "aren't sure they're coming this year" get their tickets at the last minute and breezily parachute into the event?LGP wrote:In 2007 I entered the lottery to win the chance to go see Led Zeppelin perform at the O2 Arena in London (capacity 20,000 people). AntiM and her Home for Wayward Art bring some of the "heat" to the playa. We are not going to go through another round of "who contributes the most and therefore gets a ticket". She's a grown woman, she can cope with seeing the playa in another guise. And even at one third the "star power" (for lack of a better term) of last year's burn, that's still a very concentrated amount of amazing stuff in a very small area, and it still won't be possible to see it all in a week.Spritle712 wrote:I hear you but, as other posters have pointed out, the Burn might not be so hot if collections of artists and creators can't get to the playa because they can't afford a $700 ticket from stub hub.AntiM wrote:As someone who is holding three tickets, I find "scrap the whole thing" to be a terrible idea. I'd imagine anyone holding tickets just now would object strenuously to such a plan.
I do feel for those who are ticketless, but really? Hand me a prize then rip it away because there isn't enough for the whole class?

I was under the impression that everyone was to be notified regardless if they "won" or not on February 1. Here it is, February 3rd and 7 others in my camp are still waiting...on pins and needles...for some kind of email. If we get no email, does that mean we get no ticket?

have you checked your bank statement or cc charges. If not charged you probably didn't get a ticket
but then again I would hold out hope that my ticket was stuck somewhere in cyper space. I didn't get a ticket YET either but I did get the dreaded email...
