WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CAMP?

Post by jbelson » Thu Sep 09, 2004 5:11 pm

My 2 favorite this year were The clan Destino and lush. They both had awesome structures. Destino had the bar car and silver streak as well as some good shows. Lush ( i believe thats what it was called @2;00 & esplanade) had an amazing camp. Palm trees, which I know some people hated cause of the moop, and a massive structure. Plus the 40' tall flower out front. I saw 3 big trailers for their camp. Absolutely impressive.
Other camps were great, but those stood out due to size.

What were your favorite camps?

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CAMP?

That's an easy one to answer.

It's the Camp I help build and spent 90% of my time time in and no I won't tell you which one it is... 'cause it really doesn't matter, does it?

And I'm looking forward to doing it again next year and the year after that and the year after that and the year after that...and the year after that and.......... ! Until I can't do it any more!

I loved that camp. It was on the Esplanade between 5:30 & 6:00. They had astrological mini-golf and free beer. The fools that ran it were so damn nice and welcoming. They even gave me my own piggy cup with my name written on it. Thanks ya'll!

Defacation Camp -- a fake camp at the 6:30 pottie bank
and of course
The Liver's End/Camp Impending Doom -- a chill space made up of Indianas who let me hang out there while I was on Poop Patrol. Offering a welcoming, cheerful camp to a worker really makes their Event.

I thought the folks at Costco Soulmate Exchange were great. The folks at the Guilded Lotus were masters of mellow.

Lush was just that. I blame them for my bad knee, because I danced for 12 hours straight (drugs may have played a part). Thanks for the free CDs that you passed out after dawn on Saturday.
There...I said it and I'm glad!

I loved the popcorn people. I would be so far from home, and snacky, and there was the popcorn! And they gave me a button and let me use their megaphone! I have to get one of those- my boyfriend has promised me one from Christmas. So look out next year!

I also loved the Deep End. Fun, fun, fun. Misters! So smart!

I loved my camp. It wasn't much...we had lots of fluttery flags, a futon, and hung out, had a great view of the bike and foot traffic, and met some very nice people passing by.

I do have to give a hearty "Nice try, guys" to the Nude-A-Raoke camp at 3:00 and Earth, right next door to me. I sleep at nite, and they don't. The guy who was running it knew my schedule, and apologized profusely at the noise. Why I'm including his camp here is that he must have grown zuccini all summer, tried several recipes, and fed me zuccini bread for the rest of the Event.

I'm such a sucker for zuccini bread. The 70's pop covers weren't too bad either.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Poop Patrol is when I go out to camps, talk to people, and stand in front of the pottie lines and educating the masses about what the situation is with regards to the porta-potties. It is by this way that newbies can be educated, and vets can be encouraged to talk to newbies about "excremental correctness."

I also interview the vendor's truck drivers, to determine patterns, main concerns, and general moral boosting.

Finally, I replace the hand sanitizer goo at the pottie banks.

I do Poop Patrol from after breakfast until after dark, both vehicle mobile and foot mobile (after dusk). You may have seen me, I drove my little red truck w/ the DPW stickers, as I was hauling supplies and personelle all the time during the event.

Sometimes I'd even get gifted a beer, which I'd save until I'm home and relaxed. Ahhhhh.

Dang, that was at or near the Cat Hearders Local, where a friend of mine was camped. Never made it out there, because we had to leave early. But I heard praise given to the ball return.

You Are That Pig was happy to host your golfing and beer-drinking whims.

This is our third year in a row, and we hope to make it four next year, with Esplanade placement, chill dome, etc...

The dust in the middle of the week bruied the golf course, took us a day or so to dig it out. I want to do a big bocce ball tourney next year, and maybe put together a pig-mobile roving art-car-bar. We shall see, and thanks for joining us!

Easy one for me.......the Starlust Lounge. Those people are the nicest folks I met out on the playa all week.....they really seem to embody all that the playa should be. A great atmosphere and attitude every time (even to those lurching drunken frat-types who didn't necessarily deserve that courtesy). Always a great smile and earnest, friendly conversation (and when Sassy smiled, my heart melted...oops, did I say that out loud?).

Also, the stage manager at Center Camp Cafe when I did my set Wednesday afternoon was very professional and a cool guy besides. Thanks, man!

one because it was perfectly situated between the pig and gasso and two because I could just hang out and braid peoples hair while watching the people parade the Esplanade and fire dancers on the playa. Also because it was my camp!

My second favorite was the popcorn camp. Whenever I felt lonely..I would just wander over there and fill up on popcorn and lively conversation.

If I had to choose one, then it would be the nose over on the 3:00 plaza. Great place to cool down during the day.

I also liked the Deep End because they had great music and were close to my camp, and there was a camp near Earth and 7:40 that helped me fix my bike. That was invaluable.

I have to add my camp (Spike's Vampire Bar) to the list. And not only because I spent every night there, but because it was  fun! I was amazed at the random performances people would do on our stage. True participation happened on the Spike's stage. And we served our blood (er wine) out of IV drips. Now how cool is that?

Yeah, we have been getting a bunch of requests for BMs, so we will probably be serving them at least a few mornings in '05.

sad but true! My Camp Bar -Fahrenheit 451

Post by Diane » Fri Sep 17, 2004 9:43 pm

No this is not an advertisement for my bar. This is a huge THANK YOU to all that came in and sat down or talked to myself & husband or campmates or posed for a picture or two or climbed the tower. Thank you for making us feel like you enjoyed what we were trying to do and making the hard work pay off. Last year our camp really sucked. Just an art car on theoutskirts of town... We made a commitment to make it better this year and we did!
By Weds. I had hurt my wrist and had a sore throat for 5 days, so hanging out at the bar really gave me the chance to rest AND speak to some people I feel I would have never met otherwise dancing or just riding my bike around (a singular activity even thought it is honored as the transportation of choice! unless you have abicycle built for more than 1!) or watching a show or this that or the other...
Anywhoooo.....
I met a bunch of really great people that had similar intersts as me, some really hot chickies and roosters and some just plain old fun down to earth folks like me and I am happy. My place didn't play loud music or have bright flashing lights, but it was my camp and I think I would have stopped inthere if it wasn't mine... Actually I did stop at a few like mine and had a great time! Thank you to all the small bars throughout BRC!!!
