Re: Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread
Since the lottery finished I have been trying to keep positive in securing a ticket but have to be honest and say that I had my doubts. Today everything changed!!!! A friend of a friend can no longer make it and has decided to pass on his 2 tickets to myself and partner. Finally I can say 'I'm coming home' ... I am hoping that all burners veterans and virgins get the opportunity to do the same.
I hope we all stick together as a community and make this year a positive experience. Personally I will helping friends in theme camps and as much as I can.

I suggest: Burning Man Org open a ticket office on the playa.
In exchange for one 2012 ticket stub each attendee can buy one ticket for 2013.
This will ensure "scalpers" don't hoard tickets for 2013 and it provides BM Org with $17 million 1 year in advance.

I suggested this last year. Response (from an LLC member) was "do you really want the same people going every year?"
But given this year's events, maybe they sell 25,000 tix this way, $390, only transferrable to somebody else who has a ticket stub.

Don't you see what Burning Man is doing
..
In order to maximize profits they are selling as many Tier 3 tickets as they can,
people willing to spend the most amount of money got their tickets more often
than the people in tier 1 and 2, SHAME ON THEM for being so scandolous.

And suddenly you'd get a hot secondary market for ticket stubs. I have all of mine.
I even have untorn tickets form 1997. My first year was 2001, but I sure as hell could make it appear otherwise.

How is that, since there are a SPECIFIC numbers of tickets at each price level? That has never changed so I am not sure how you come to that conclusion.

Re: Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread
I am trying to deal with my I Have A Ticket guilt. If I go, I feel like I will have to take on a lot of responsibility. I will have to figure out if I have enough time and money to make Bman a bigger priority. I am not a die hard super vet burner. (I run my own business at home and I do not have many resources or money) I have only been going since 05 and I am what I label myself "Third Tier burner". I am involved in theme camps, bring extra everything, make stuff for camps, spread good vibes and all that good burner shit but I'm not able to be Super Hardcore. Do I deserve to go over someone who is? Who knows. Been thinking about it, though, just all of these strange thoughts and the psychology that comes along with all ticket situations this year.

RedHeaven,
Sounds like you do a lot for others. You won your ticket fair and square. You should go if you want, with no guilt!!!

Re: Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread
RedHeaven, don't feed the "entitlement" mentality of many "hardcore" burners here and elsewhere. Nobody "deserves" to go to Burning Man. You go because you want to go. You won the luck of the draw, and if there are some embittered "hardcore" Burners who would wish it otherwise, perhaps the event is better off without them. Sometimes radical inclusion means someone else is included at your own expense.
Anyway, don't worry about the "hardcore burner." They will find a way, and there are many months ahead to obtain a ticket.

Huh? This makes no sense whatsoever. They set the ticket prices. If they wanted to, they could charge $450 a ticket. Period. End of story. Apparently the fine points of the lottery were lost on you. 1) the amount of tickets at each price tier were fixed, not based on demand. 2) the reason more people that entered the lottery for tier 3 tickets got them than people who only entered for tier1 or tier 2 exclusively is simple mathematics. Those who entered tier 3 had 3 separate opportunities to get tickets (they entered 1 lottery at each of the three tiers). Those who entered at tier 1 and tier 2 and only had 2 chances. Those that only entered for Tier 1 only had 1 chance of getting drawn.... It was 3 separate lotteries....

You guys rock. Thanks for the stoke. I didnt win the lotto btw I just have a kind friend who did...I wonder how many other Kind Friends out there are sitting on extras and just not saying anything on line? I think thats where a lot of tickets are, maybe the majority of the "extras"....
I also know some people who have been to burning man once or twice that got tix and are very casual about it, like maybe they will maybe they won't. They just got them to be sure.

Agreed. People are thinking hard about who they want to sell to, and there are a lot of factors involved in that. You can't even tip your hand and say "Heyyy, I have an extra, you covered?" because even if that friend/campmate did have their own, and was honest about it, they would then have a firm opinion about how you should allocate your extra. Who needs that?
(And might they not wait to see if their needy friend gets lucky in STEP, March or from another mutual friend before revealing their hand?)

Cheesus Christ, please tell me we're not talking about 'survivor's guilt' here just because you hit the fucking jackpot.
Get a mop, wipe up your fucking tears and start planning to go.
Otherwise, sell your ticket and use your vacation time (and profits) to immerse yourself in some good ol' fashion Gestalt therapy.

I am so depressed. BM is my annual panacea. It's my Christmas and New Year and some random selection has excluded me this year. I don't know how I am going to join my Camp Mates. I fly 7,000 miles to attend with so much glee. I am so sad this year.

This is the Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread. All of the others are for sniveling and bemoaning the fact the BMOrg fucked up.

I pretty much already know which of my friends do or do not hold tickets. I did tip my hand about my spare, was informed that so n so, who is precious to a friend, but not really to me, does not have a ticket. I doubt it was purposefully implied I should give/sell it to the FoaF specifically, but the ghost of the implication lingers. I have a short list, it involves an ex-campmate, several eplayans, a couple Utah burners, and then my intended home village on the playa. No decision will be made until I have the damn thing in hand. Even then, it may be a literal toss of the dice. Random chance.

Re: Official "Awarded Tickets" Thread
I have a ticket. I am not ashamed of it. I hate the lotto. I feel bad for people.
I am going home. I AM HAPPY I AM. I have a lot to mentally plan for. I am ready for the challenge.
I did have ticket guilt but then came to realize I should not. I won my, what people would say, "over priced" pre sale ticket for the most priceless event ever.
Yes this year will be different.... whether it mean it will be a horrid mess.... something good... everything just fine... or something better.
it's history regardless.
The year BM was saved...the year is came crumbling... the year it hung on for dear life... the year the dust covered us... Whatever... I will be home with 50k people figuring out what to do and I am sure it will be something and not nothing and we can come out saying we survived BM 2012 for whatever it is, will be and was
So congrats to all my family old and new who got tickets and let's be supportive and help our fellow family in finding tickets. Just because we have tickets does not mean help is not needed....
I do know no matter what it will be a challenge. For us, those who are going are responsible to keeping our home through these changes.
Combine theme camps, make friends and offer what you can. Be realistic. I am driving from Philadelphia (moving to Cali, the burn in on our way) and I know I cannot bring massive things i will and plan to bring in the next coming years once I settle in Cali... but I am bringing what I can and the will to be there and help

Well way to stoke it over the trash fence there Mamchicken. AMEN!
And lets not get hasty....just cuz someone has ticket guilt doesnt mean they are fuggin cryin' about it. Its going to be a general feeling for those who have a ticket when they learn of the snafu. Its true though, push it through. Let it go. I personally might wallow for a bit and push it aside for now since I don't have a far advance planning agenda. Another reason I have ticket guilt (er, had it) I have the room for it.

Dear Burning Tourist,
Do you know what time it is?
It's time to shut the fuck up.
Pack your bags, take your ticket. Get to the event, and stop worrying about your friends.
You'll make new ones - as long as you stop whining.
Hope you're not looking for a fucking therapist on this board.
