When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning flight?
When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning flight?
First time Burners coming from NJ (Father: 51; Son: 18). We have a very early morning flight (6:00am) back on Tuesday 9/4/12 out of Reno, and already have a hotel room in Reno for Monday night - but the real question will be: What time should we plan on leaving BRC on Monday (9/3) to make sure we get back to Reno by say 8:00pm on Monday (so we can get some sleep in, having to get up probably at 4:00am on Tuesday the 4th for the flight)?

I would leave on Monday before 8:00am or you'll find yourself spending most of the day sitting in the exodus lines. You will have some nice relax time in Reno to clean the rental car and do some sightseeing. If you leave at noon, you will spend 4+ hours sitting in traffic--then have to drive 2 hours to Reno.

Thanks so much. I was worried that Exodus would take us from 8:00am till Midnight!Shambala wrote:I would leave on Monday before 8:00am or you'll find yourself spending most of the day sitting in the exodus lines. Last year we left just before 7am and we were in the queue out for 5 hours, I heard that later that people queued for much longer, so leave 7am-8am just to be sure.

No matter what time you leave, allow yourself enough time to stop in Nixon for an Indian taco. They're delicious!

Sunday night. Book a hotel room, have a shower, eat "real" food. Look like a zombie. It'll do you good.

We left Monday morning at 5:45am and didn't get into Reno until 2pm. We did stop for indian taco's, so we'd probably have made it by 1.

it could take you 3 hours, it could take you 30.
if an RV or two turns over, that two lane road turns into a parking lot.
expect delays.
they can often be the best part of the trip, however.

So perhaps my question should be "how big is the exodus on Sunday morning normally" as opposed to "is there a long wait on Sundays" which of course is only speculation and will remain to be seen.
As to dealing with my husband...I have lots of practice and believe me...if Mr. Rogers could in any way influence his patience level I would have it on constant loop! My prediction is that he will maintain much better than most, even if he is as,or more snarky than some folks here can be in the process. The only one that will suffer is me with my major snark aversion so it is not for him that I ask, it is for myself who can only stand so much snarkiness in a set period of time. Lucky for me that his redeeming qualities make it all worth it, and then some:-)

Thanks for the offer but I will have to pass...he would be more than unmanageable on those....(picture beached walrus???) .......and I will just smoke a fatty and deal with it fine:-) Unfortunately the fatty would affect him like the ruffie would and then I would still have a beached walrus....laughing and goofy perhaps but pretty much totally non-functional. I guess I am stuck with the snark.

Well, who's driving?
Whoever isn't can be the beached walrus. Everyone wins.

I've never left on Sunday, but have been told it should only take a couple hours to get to the pavement if you leave on Sunday night.
Re: When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning fligh
A lot of people leave after they feel they have done everything on sunday night.
I have never left that early, but hear some exits aren't too bad.
Right after temple would be crowded.
Lines are short by wednesday.
Personally I would leave late sunday night for your flight.

Re: When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning fligh
We left Sunday night / Monday early AM.
We were camped on H and by Sunday evening had a line of sight view of the exit lines and just waited till the line tapered off a bit at about 4 AM. It still took about 4 hours to hit pavement. Once past Gerlach it was smooth sailing and we were able to maintain the speed limit all the way into Fernley.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning fligh
I am thinking more like noon or early afternoon on Sunday. We have a 9-10 hour drive to manage after we leave the playa so the earlier the better probably.
Re: When to leave (really) for a Tuesday (9/4) morning fligh
I was thinking in reference to the flight.
Sunday night is better than saturday night.
