Bishop/Owens Valley
Does anyone here have familarity with this area? It might be a good place for a small regional.
I may scope it out later this year.

I think Chuck Manson had a "get away, hide the bodies" spot there?Ugly Dougly wrote:Does anyone here have familarity with this area? It might be a good place for a small regional.

Great area. Might work really well in the Alabama hills (blm land) which is near Lone Pine. Great jumbles of rock to play in, good roads. It's most famous for being the area that many westerns were filmed (you can ride down the canyon that the Lone Ranger did every week) and also where Gunga Din was shot. The bridge is still there. It's dry and isolated. Just watch out for shell casings. And snakes.

Hey, thanks, cool looking area.

Not a "Burning Man" per se, but perhaps a regional Barbarian Bash with a cap of 100.

Stayed there and it was great. You are on a bench above the valley. Some of the boys from the air base use it for low level passes so that's some extra entertainment. But it's pretty isolated. Did it in the spring so it was cool, but not cold.

It's also the gateway to Manzanar and other tourist atractions, so there are motels in town. Even a legend about a mountain devil to tell around the campfire.
Probably a small group of barbarians gathering for a weekend celebration (solstice?) would be overlooked by los federales.
Might be a six hour drive from the bay area.
