you can find those on ebay for like $7, just search for carabiner cup or mug. They are cheap, don't last, break easy and the screws holding the carabiner rust quickly. But for $7, to use for $7 days on the playa it can be considered disposable.

I use a 32oz nalgene bottle with a space saver steel cup slid over the bottom. The whole shebang sits in an insulated pouch I can connect to a belt. If you want to be lazy about getting it out and opening the lid you can get a camelbak cap for it with a sippy lid and straw and add a camelback 2ft drink tube to it. I'm lazy about it so thats how mine is setup. I use it on my motorcycle, I connect the end of the drinktube to one of those little keychain retractable cords so the tube always goes back to the same place instead of flapping in the wind. I grab it, put it to my mouth, drink, then let go and it goes back to where it was.

I spotted one I like at REI but at $20 it seems a little expensive but it had a screw on lid, splash proof top, stainless stell for easy cleaning and a clip handle to make it easy to carry.




What are most people using for drinking cups/containers when visiting other camps?

I use this mug and it was worth every penny. Keeps stuff hot / cold, has a decent capacity, the lid keeps the inside cleaner, it doesn't spill easily, and it has a built in clip. I suppose if I was younger / better looking the fact that the lid makes it harder for someone to dose the cup might be an added benefit, but that is not a huge concern to me.

But the best part is that if you need hands free and there's no place to set it nearby, just slide the clip over a pocket, belt, or waistband and it stays upright.

All 3 of us used these all week and they held up well in spite of bouncing around on the backpack straps, dropping them, etc...

I love my collapsible silicone cup. Folds flat to fit into a pocket (clothing or camelbak), is easy to wash, and is good for all kinds of stuff.

I've used mine for hot beverages, cold beverages, bacon, ice cream, cereal and milk (thanks Cereal Thrillers!), and lots of other stuff. It's nice when someone's offering something to be able to produce a cup from a pocket.



I also carry a tiny, folding titanium spork. Yep, geeky as hell!

Ugly Dougly: I love Winnie the Pooh! That is a great cup. I have a Sponge Bob cup with lid and built in straw that I plan to bring. I also have a sweet blinky cup that is big and awesome but it has no lid. hmmmmm Now that I am thinking about it I think it was a slurpee cup which means I could get a slurpee lid for it and be all good. SWEET! It is coming too.

I am a big fan of Nalgene's Polycarbonate bottles and am not worried about the BPAs. I have never founder a lighter, stronger, more colorful bottle and until I do, these are my cup of choice. I have between 15-20 of them in varying colors, sizes and wide/narrow mouths.

Here's what my cup looks like. I bring over 100 of them to the playa. I prefer to drink beer than mixed drinks. Hard alcohol + me = problems. Also, nobody's going to put anything weird in my can of beer. One night last year, we hauled around a flat bed wagon with an ice chest, snacks, and a box of pee bottles. We put LED lights on the whole thing. It served as a home base out on the open playa.

What do you drink water out of, Zeke?

I got a 2 pack of no-spill sippy cups with open handles last year, but didn't realize until I tried them out that "no spill" means "no drink" unless you have a suction power I'm not capable of producing. That and the open handles meant I couldn't just clip it on my belt loop with a carabiner. Definitely going closed-handle with a normal plastic spout next time.

Since 2004, when people were still talked about spraying olive oil on the U-Haul so that playa dust would cover up the writing, it's increasingly clear that Burning Man is made possible by REI, Ford, Ryder, Columbia Sportswear and countless disposable products with non-biodegradable batteries made by child labor in places like China, were Burning Man wouldn't possibly be allowed.

I don't have a photo of it, but I drink coffee from a hand-made tin mug, and cold beverages from a 32-ounce insulated cup with a CYANIDE SUPPLY sticker on it where the OSU Beavers logo used to be.

You know the free garage sale near centercamp. I think it's Bob's. He said the one item most sought after is a ceramic mug. He went through the 400 that he brought very quickly. I guess in the morning, at your camp, it's a comfort item. BUT When buying coffee at the cafe bring your own. Get more and save a tree. (and yes, I am repeating myself.)

I'd be wary of using a utensil that was made of pewter - doesn't most pewter have lead mixed in to make the tin more malleable?

Pewter is now available in a lead free form. I don't know what the other component/s of the alloy is/are. I trust that Eric knows that lead was in pewter and has tested or talked to his friend and knows that this is same.
