Burgin for sacrifice.
Burgin for sacrifice.
I attended my first SD Decom in 2011. I had such an amazing experience that I vowed to attend Burning Man 2012. By luck, terrestrial alignment, etc., I found myself with a ticket! After years of just talking about going to one, I finally am. Sadly, friends whom I had planned to go with backed out. No matter. This is the year. This is my year. I'm sure to make many more. I just don't know where to start. I've pored over Facebook's Burning Man page, San Diego Burners & such but find myself like a shy wallflower, just content to watch everyone interact so smoothly.
Reading up on the "to do's & to don'ts" fills me with such joy. I cannot wait to meet new friends & experience an amazing event. I hope someone, anyone can guide me to the right direction to prepare myself.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome.
Virgins are always in high demand. (Not to be sacrificed to the ticket gods either, that will be for the scalper's scalps.) Virgins see the event through new eyes and lift the scales from the jaded. Your camp, which you will find, will love to hear the stories of your adventures daily.
I would start putting together a packing list - there are plenty on this board and on the interwebs.
Second start thinking about costumes. They need to cover from 45F to 100F+ no exertion to maximum, possible rain (rare). Good for long walks, biking, and just being awesome footwear. Things you can afford to loose and are easily washable.
There should be plenty of public and private burner parties in your area to make connections and consult. The DoLab events <may> have burners.

Welcome Devi,
So much information here to digest. I was in your shoes last year. My advice as a sophomore is just take it all in bit by bit. It'll come. Don't be afraid to ask questions or to mistakes.
One personal bit of advice I can offer since you're in SD, check out the police auctions in SD (happens every few months). That's a good place to pick up a cheap bike for the playa. You will definitely want a bike. I got Jim (yes, my bike has a name) for $25. Buy the bike, get it cleaned up and serviced (pay attention to the gears and the chain!!) and think about how you want to decorate/light it up for the evening.
Also, check out Kobe's swap meet for random supplies...so much useful stuff there!
Good luck and welcome!!
--------------------
Edit: I just realized you're not from SD but from the IE. (misread, sorry) Same advice applies... look for police auctions up in the IE and check out the swap meets up there too!

I can't imagine they mistake me for a woman, though. Even as dainty and demure as I am.

When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

^blushing to the tips of my toes.
Before I urbandictionary "sparklepony"...What could that be? Oh, so many terms to learn by...August?
My mother dabbled in Yoga right around the time of my conception and afterwards. Named me "Mahadevi" as a tribute. I like Devi for short since the full name is too egotistical. For which I am not.
Namaste!
Where do I start the search on a camp that I might want to huddle with? I'm still not sure who I'm taking with me but most likely it will be a fellow burgin as well.

P.S. I can finally dress-up without people thinking I'm weird...Or pervs offering up indecent proposals.

Re: Burgin for sacrifice.
I'm sure a perv will be along shortly to contradict you here, if only for humor value . . . but you will find that being scantily clad on the playa does not mean what it does in the default world, which is freeing. Burners usually don't make assumptions about your level of interest in them or your degree of sexual freedom based on what you're wearing or not wearing.Cal1dev wrote:P.S. And you can dress as weirdly as you please, and still not win the prize for Weird.
Unless you're really, really good.

Oh dear...I swear, my face is not THAT large. Hahaha! I want one of those icons/avatars everyone have on their profile..Anything I upload only get rejected for being "too big." This isn't good for my ego...Which is small enough already. (Maybe too small for my head?)
Less is more in my world.
I have a "French Riviera" in my backyard and the summer months usually find me and a friend or two basking au natural. Public nudity is a lot harder to practice, damn you prudes for ruining it for the rest of us! Don't they know it's more UNnatural to have clothes on??
Funny experience at a remote hot springs a few months ago. Lots of nudists, old and new. The new, I could tell. Too many flagpoles in attention, no one told them the unspoken rule... AND I am not one to chastise a man/men with a "gun half cocked."

If you open your picture with Microsoft office Picture Manager, you can go into Picture menu and resize your picture to be of desired height and width. Regardless of the tool you use, look for the resize option.Cal1dev wrote:Oh dear...I swear, my face is not THAT large. Hahaha!
