Burning Man 2012 STEP Questions
Hey All,
1. Will someone who needs a ticket be able to register in STEP with any/all of the following attributes:
A. Name
B. Age
C. Years of Burningman Attendance
D. Theme Camp Name (if any)
E. Theme Camp Location (City, State)
F. Theme Camp Size (0-10, 10-20, etc)
G. Theme Camp Age (years)
H. Theme Camp Membership Role (Leader, Core, Setup, Teardown, Attendee, etc)
I. Typical Burningman Role (Volunteer, Participant, Artist, Musician, Sparkle Pony, Virgin, etc)
J. Typical Monetary Value of Annual Contributions to BM (i.e. Speaker Rentals, Interactive Structure Costs, Alcohol Costs for a Public Bar, Artwork, etc.)
K. # of Tickets Requested
L. A Freeform Text Field to add any additional information (i.e. the best ever story of why someone HAS to go to BM, etc.)
2. Will Theme Camp Leaders have the ability to choose (from those that need tickets), who can associate themselves with their theme camp? As a Core Member, I don't want people not in my camp claiming membership to try to get a ticket.
3. Will groups of people that need tickets be organized in some logical way (i.e. a filterable list)?
4. Will someone who has an extra ticket be able to search the list of people that need tickets by any/all of those attributes?
5. Will there be an option to Gift the ticket from one person to another rather than forcing a sale at face value?
5. Will there be transaction fees associated with transferring a ticket? How much?
I'm pretty sure that there are several great people in BMORG working on these very same questions, but perhaps a little interaction with the community might spark some additional interesting ideas.
Thanks,
PopTart

Re: Burning Man 2012 STEP Questions
Probably just the number of tickets at the maximum amount you can afford, name, credit card number, and address.

You know, if STEP is going to be a popularity contest, I'd much rather deal with the open market.

Stop pointing out the elephant in the room. We all know its pink and is constantly crashing into things. Its obvious that its ate the mixed party nuts and it keeps picking up people's drinks every time the look away. Fuck, where's my martini?Pop_Tart wrote:Soooo... no dialogue. no interaction between the decision makers and the customers. just 'this is how its going to be'. wow. ok. not like I have a choice in the matter. i will just wait for the 22nd.

Re: Burning Man 2012 STEP Questions
1. Will someone who needs a ticket be able to register in STEP with any/all of the following attributes:
A. Name
Who the fuck cares? I mean beyond if it matches the credit card. At least they're not asking for playa name...
B. Age
Relevance?
C. Years of Burningman Attendance
So do we lie and say more because we want to look vital, or lie and say less, because we're going for some sort of twisted sympathy?
D. Theme Camp Name (if any)
Again, if I say I'm with Dye With Dignity is someone going to contact Tamarakay or Doc and ask if I really, truly am? How much would that cost the llc for thousands of potential customers?
E. Theme Camp Location (City, State)
Black Rock City, Nevada
F. Theme Camp Size (0-10, 10-20, etc)
Relevance? Are we expecting them to do some sort of "critical mass" calculation that will end up with what they decide is a good core number?
G. Theme Camp Age (years)
So, does Root Society count the number of years since it was founded, or does it not count last year because it wasn't there?
H. Theme Camp Membership Role (Leader, Core, Setup, Teardown, Attendee, etc)
Oh boy. Will they check this against what the contact person says is the role, because that could get interesting.
I. Typical Burningman Role (Volunteer, Participant, Artist, Musician, Sparkle Pony, Virgin, etc)
"I was a virgin last year and the year before and a sparklepony the year before that."
J. Typical Monetary Value of Annual Contributions to BM (i.e. Speaker Rentals, Interactive Structure Costs, Alcohol Costs for a Public Bar, Artwork, etc.)
Oh fuck, do you keep receipts? What if you're a scrounge and put hard work into finding stuff cheap, and don't really know how to calculate the market price...
K. # of Tickets Requested
yes
L. A Freeform Text Field to add any additional information (i.e. the best ever story of why someone HAS to go to BM, etc.)
Yeah, this is the stuff the poor chinese english lit grad students enslaved in the bowels of the llc's ticket awarding office will read to each other so at least the 16 hour shifts will go by a little faster.
I'm so glad you came up with a system that it utterly un-"gamable".
