Advice for a likely BRC Ranger?

Post by TheMuse » Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:38 pm

I have been to BM twice now and am rather certain I will volunteer to Ranger for 2005. Any tips from current/past Rangers? Pro's and Con's?

Sign up for the Ranger type annoucement lists.
Fill out a volenteer form now, perhaps--but I'm just guessing on that one.

I'll fill out the form once the 2005 one is available (I think the current one is still mostly 2004 related)... but nice tip on the lists, thanks!

I'm not a ranger; but I play one on T.V.

Two words:

Lighten up.

No, tea lights will not ignite the gas tank of a passing motor vehicle.

Etc.

Funny you should mention that. The second night on the playa my tent-mate almost killed me. Left a tea light burning in the tent. I woke up (I have no idea why or how) to a funny smell and odd crackling noise to find the floor of the tent on fire and it had spread to within about 3 or 4 inches on my sleeping bag.

Please don't bring flame into a tent. It can fuck up your whole day.

Even though the volunteer form is for last year, still fill it out - that should at least get you onto the rangers announce list. Then head to the Rangers.org website - there are links to a couple of the different regional ranger groups plus the black rock rangers. Also, your regional mailing list should be able to put you into contact with some local rangers or the local ranger list. Most regions have at least one or two cool rangers who would love to talk your ear off about rangering and burning man. Most of us are more than fiarly pationate about both. It kind of grows on you.

hope to see you in kahki next year,
Ranger CC Sallie
Love and nibbles,
