WANTED: high res/large sized burning man logo

Postby Fufa » Thu Feb 09, 2012 4:49 pm

Does anyone have a high resolution, large sized (+1000 pixels either side ideally) image of the man logo? My google search efforts have been fruitless, and my art skills are questionable when it comes to replicating images. I'm putting the design into a large costume piece. I'm looking for a logo like this one (the circle around it is not required):

- open with Adobe Illustrator

- use the Live Trace feature to convert it to outlines/vector

- enlarge as needed holding down the shift button to preserve scale.

Voila!

If I wasn't typing on my phone, I'd do it for you :D

I'm doing a large embroidery fabric backpiece on my coat. I don't need the ranger part, just the logo. That was the best pic I could find. I'll try your suggestion junglesmacks!

Thats a cool Idea Fufa. I love seeing the hand made versions. Screen print is cool and all but the aim of that look is to be "official" and or mass produced. making things by hand takes time and love. good luck.

Here's a vector of it: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burning-Man.svg Vectors can scale losslessly infinitely, so that's preferable.

If you don't have a program that will open it, you can get InkScape for free or just click the 2000px link.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

The logo isn't that complex and it's not like there's specific branding requiring certain arm/leg/head measurements. About as close as you'd get is to make the top of the head flatter than the bottom. The wikipedia version, for example, doesn't look exactly like you'd find on the BM website, which itself looks like a simple pencil scratch.

For the record I'm aiming for raised fabric appliques, that will also be lighted eventually. I know how simple the logo is, and I've drawn it numerous times, but I can never quite get the look of the "official" one so to speak, which I find the most visually appealling (to me that is, it's all subjective!). I don't want to put the work into this piece and still be like " ah... But the angle is supposed to be 15' not 16.5'.....tits." I'm a perfectionist about stuff like that.

But if I have a scaled up "official" one, then I just print and trace for my pattern! :P

THE MAN vector request.

Postby MojoWojo » Mon Apr 23, 2012 10:08 pm

Hello all,

I'm working on some printed materials to be handed out at BM for Uli Baba and His Horny Thieves and I wanted to include a picture of the man as an vector graphic.

Does anyone have one lying around they could send me via email?

Thanks a TON!

MojoWojo.

Correction: does anyone have a vector of the wire frame of the man?

Your best bet may still be to find the image you want and convert it to vector yourself using the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator.

You can do better than the official logo, I think.

I like some of the old photos from 1996 or so.

To get a high res stylized version of what you want, enlarge, alter as needed, shoot back down.
Easy.

I have.

Photocopies are easier.

Digital age...the big blueprint place with the big machines shut down.
There are still things only a blueprint machine will do, like convert mris.
They could photocopy to ten feet across.

FWIW, it's possible to do something original, rather than steal somebody else's art.

Fucking amazing that the eplaya mods don't reinforce this notion.

Maybe that's because using the logo is allowed as long as it's for gifting purposes (and it doesn't say you have to draw your own version). It's not our job to tell someone they're not creative enough for you.

For more information on what gifting is about, see Ten Principles. Making a gift to give away with the Man symbol, or the words “Burning Man” is absolutely fine, as is putting the design or phrase on your camp's informational website, or going in on a batch of t-shirts (at cost for yourselves or as gifts... using the Man symbol or Burning Man photos on an invitation to a camp fundraiser, or designing promotional materials for your company,, or making a Burning Man t-shirt to sell to the public at a Cafe Press shop are not. Hey all, I designed a spin-off logo for my project this year incorporating a subtle extra "CC" for Cargo Cult. If you like it and want to use if for anything at all, just download the zip file (contains an AI File, An EPS and a PNG) from here: http://www.waynestadler.com/BMCC-Logo.zip and go at 'er. Cheers,
