Lest you be uninformed of just exactly what…well decide for yourself! Based on the estimation of the number of "regulars" who did not get drawn (... "major theme camp and art group organizers, we determined that only 20%-25% of the key people needed to bring those projects to the playa had received notifications for tickets" ...), me thinks if ever there is/was/will be a burn not to attend, this fall's may well be the one. Sounds as there could be upwards of 75% newbie attendance which is bound to result in a much greater degree of confusion, chaos and catastrophe than I for one have yet seen there.

It would be nice if BMorg had the balls just to say, well we sure fucked that up…but no we are supposed to believe that they are going to figure out some sort of "solution" to having so high a percentage of first time burners that they will be hard pressed just to get enough volunteers to put the infrastructure together let alone manage all the freaked out newbies who haven't a clue how to prepare for, survive, thrive and enjoy BRC without it degenerating into an absolutely unpleasant and unmanageable mess!

I'm more inclined to think that "what sealed" one's fate had/has little or nothing to do with the pre-registration survey or the "perfect-storm" cited, but is a result more of the planners failure to foresee and divert the multiple registrations that were made (through relatives, neighbors, friends, offspring, parents, grandparents, etc. etc. ad nauseam) by just about everyone who registered (especially newbies, I suspect)! I mean like who'd thunk that high minded idealistic denizens of BRC and subscribers to the Burning Man culture and dreamy ethos would stoop so low as to try to "game the system" to improve their chances at being drawn.

STEP program? (isn't that a bit too reminiscent of and coincidental to AA's 12 STEP program?) How many registrants do you think answered their silly survey anywhere close to accurately and honestly, other than apparently, yourself? And why didn't they use the "results" of the survey to create an "algorithm" for the drawing if they are going to use one for the remaining 20% of the tickets? Even if they selected only "key" personnel for all of the remaining tickets, at best they would still only have 40-45% of the total being the contributing, experienced burners they claim are so essential! 

If you read both of the blurbs from BMorg, most of the "key" personnel were already known to BMorg or their Theme Camp "teams". How else could they arrive at a wildly inaccurate estimate of the essential "percentage of the community" that were or were not drawn for tickets?

What remains to be seen is just how fucked up their triage will be! That it will be fucked up is without doubt! Just as the unbelievable restocking fee, for something that hasn't yet even been printed much less removed from "stock"! Sheer and brazen effrontery...BMorg's predominate trait...ten principals (not a misspelling) and bullshit ethos NOT withstanding!

It is a shame that they don't have the cojones to just scrap what they have done to date (I know... the cost of crediting all the 40,000 charge card accounts ...) admit that they fucked up... forget about "fairness" (what on the planet is fair?) and start over with a flat ticket price, 1st come 1st served sales of blocks of tickets spread out over blocks of time between the end of the refund process and the event. Like whose egos are they trying to stroke with their adherence to the tier system and their insistence on correcting the essentially uncorrectable mess they have created so far?
