Hello Newbie from Tassie Australia

Hey all,

Laura here! Im from Tasmania Australia (the little island underneath the main part of Australia just in case your unsure). Amazingly enough I just found out about this festival. How is this possible? It looks truly incredible! I am going to try my absolute hardest to get there this year even though i've never left the country before, I am completely broke and currently unemployed as I have just graduated from uni. But I must go!!! Can't wait to have a crazy dance with each an every one of you. Any advice or cheap tips for travel, accomodation along the way or the festival itself would be wonderful. Wish me luck!

well.....so, it's great you're enthusiastic. good on ya for that!
broke is tough, it's expensive, at best.

If you don't have a ticket, that will probably be you biggest hurdle. As of now, they are pretty darn scarce.

There are several Aussies on this board, they may be of help.

Have you read the first timers, and survival guides, linkable from the main Burning Man site?
That's a great place to start.

Then, search this board, for info and tips......there are lots of threads on all subjects. A little searching and reading will get you far. Googling a search term, with "eplaya" in the string works wonders.

Try to avoid asking easy to answer with a little reading questions.....some folks get pretty snarky about answering the obvious, or easy to find out.

Other than that, jump in, and have fun. It's good to have a thick skin, some are a little snarky here.

Hi Tassietiger!

Only an hour into your knowledge of Burning Man!? How I wish I could relive that for myself! I didn't write down the discovery, or the preparation process. I remember only the job I worked at the time, and the co-worker who told me:

"You should come with me to Burning Man."
"What's Burning Man?"

. . . Two months passed, and I was setting foot on the playa for the first time.

(Luckily, I kept copious notes about the rest of it.)

I was in tassie 2 weeks ago.

Welcome to eplaya and I really hope you can get a ticket.

I found out about BM in late April 2011, a couple of hours later i was ticketed and ready and raring to go. Quite glad i found out about it.
