thanks for the love! We had a blast fully servicing everyone at our full service station on the playa! Can't wait til next year!
Much love to mayor joey, the creator of the greatest invention for women in the history of mankind...
however, we moved it because of rumors that the cops were going to give us shit...the truth is they were just rumors, and the cops were totally cool with all of us.
Now we need to make sure the BM organizers are cool with free expression!
I vote for curfew for kids so we can do whatever we want after 9...
Be well!

curfews?

Post by Scathingharpy » Sat Sep 11, 2004 4:10 am

hmm, you may have something there. If a kid is out and about after that time, and sees something that freaks his mind, its the parents fault.

BTW, the sfgate's article wasnt as glowing on the event:

As a newspaper reporter, I can say this is a well-written, interesting, factual article that none the less gives a totally one-sided representation of reality.

All it shows really is the unending complaining of "old timers" yearning for "the good old days." Change is the only constant in the universe, embrace it. If BM is too big for your taste, start your own in your hometown. A bunch of people have done it. Why not instead go out to BM and work to create the thing you think is missing to change that little bit of BM that you inhabit? I think complaining about the direction "the organization" is going, represents in fact more of a mentality of wanting to see a show that is no longer as spectacular as it used to be. It is conceding too much power of determination to "the org."

I also noticed fewer giant art projects. I decided instead of wasting my time feeling disappointed about that, I would more closely inspect the small things, pieces and gestures people had done. And guess what, it worked. My BM experience this year was calmer, less emotionally devastating, more intimate and ultimately more rewarding.

madmatt,
You have really said it best... you said exactly what I would have liked to say, just did not how to express it. Thank you.
"Change is the only constant in the universe, embrace it."
EXACTLY!

And just to add on a personal note... I've been out there 5 years now. This year I went with the love of my life instead of the huge group of people I used to go with. No disrespect to my other friends, but there was a lot of drama that occurred within my old crew and would inadvertently affect the entire experience in some way or another. This year it was just me and my love and I had the best trip home to brc I have EVER had. I truly believe it is all in your mindset... also in the company you keep and the choices you make for yourself out there. Like you said madmatt, you, "decided instead of wasting (your) time feeling disappointed about that, (you) would more closely inspect the small things, pieces and gestures people had done. And guess what, it worked. (Your) BM experience this year was calmer, less emotionally devastating, more intimate and ultimately more rewarding."... this is a great example of that right there.

There were a few things I noticed about the event changing, but I didn't bat an eye because I expected BM to be different and evolving... we as people change too... how can we expect BM to stay the same?
