"It's impossible." said pride.
"It's risky." said experience.
"It's pointless." said reason.
"Give it a try." whispered the heart.

Re: BLM
Simple: BM is not a football match of fixed duration. It is in the nature of BM that the bigger it gets, the longer it should last. Open the gate a week earlier and the gate backup disappears. Burn the Man and the Temple a couple days earlier and the exodus backup disappears. Keep extending as demand increases. More tickets sold pays for more JOTS needed (and other costs).
Sure, there would be bugs to sort out. United Site Services might not have enough JOTS and enough trucks and crews to service them. So BM would buy their own and store on the ranch. (Bolt 20 JOTS to a skid and one man can move 20 at a time with a winch truck.) All solvable.
All a matter of spreading the traffic out over more days.

For years I have been watching fb posts, youtube videos, etc., and thinking to myself, "STFU! BE QUIET!"
When you find a gold mine, you don't go and tell everyone where it is. Same way you don't tell people about your favorite hunting/fishing spot. Or even camping spot.

Re: BLM
That was me, and I was told it was unfeasible/ that arrival wasnt the problem. In the thread though somone suggested instead of a lottery for arrival having people sign up for a time and pay an extra fee if they arrive outside that window. It was also suggested to do the same thing about exodus.Canoe wrote:Somewhere on ePlaya someone posted the idea of staggered entry and exit, with something (a lottery?) to determine which day you can first enter (Saturday or Sunday). So 1/2 the gate load on Saturday and 1/2 on Sunday. Same for exodus, only: voluntary? Monday & Tuesday?
Object is to cut the peak load of the highways and all the towns along the way down to half?
Easier drive, and reduced risk of accidents?
Would it work?
What would make it work?

Re: BLM
before anyone gets all upset a the BLM, know who and what they are.

BLM's mandate under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLPMA) is to manage the public lands for multiple use, while protecting the long-term health of the land.

Re: BLM
IIRC the Reno Gazette Journal (yep, just a local paper) has placed photo(s) and a story on the FRONT page, every year after the burn, for as long as I can recall. I think the front page photo of the Big Blue Head was one of the most eye catching. And there was the year the BLM (or was it the LLC?) allowed camps to enter early. Again the RGJ did front page stories letting retailers et al know 1000's of Burners would be arriving earlier every year.urvile wrote:This.Herring wrote:The first rule of Burning Man is You do NOT talk about Burnig Man

Re: BLM
here we go, another self-defeating argument..
So, what you're saying is: don't tell anyone about BM? What, no-one? Oh...Ok. Good job someone didn't suggest that as a "remedy" before someone told US!
I totally agree about the videos and shit..they are very tacky and totally unecessary. Especially the shit ones with ppl singing songs - ffs STOP with the song videos!..
But - Please don't tell me, before YOU went to BM first, that you didn't want to see peoples photographs and hear their amazing shit? Some of the photographs I've seen from the Playa are among the most beautiful ever - of the most beautiful shit ever...That stuff is on the Internet; not just on Facebook and YouTube...you can't STOP people seeing it even if you wanted to!..
Probably, It's one of the reasons why a lot of us are there now. That and because somebody TOLD us about BM...Should we leave?..
