I did my monthly measurements today. The hip measurement isn't "true", that's where my alien post-surgical bump resides, down low. Still, down an inch. The waist is still the same. But good progress on the thigh and upper arm measurements. Scale is down a bit too.

Also had the alien fluid aspirated today. Ouchie ouchie. Big needle. Lots of pressing down by the doc and the nurse. Yow.

Way to go, girl!

Just got back from the gym myself. Had to kind'a start over because I overloaded a shoulder muscle in the beginning, so now I take it easier.
Sweet and otherwise tasty foods are still my downfall. I know... I should drink a glass of water whenever I feel like a snack, but.... Is there such a thing as a pill that will truly "sabotage" appetite, without doing too much other harm?

The only pill for that is perseverance and determination, it's not an easy one to swallow!

I took last week off, my bad knee was giving me trouble. Today I got back in the gym, and ran on a treadmill for the first time. 2min run/2min walk intervals for 20 total. Now I got some maddddd shin splints. This is going to be an uphill battle.

I still snack, but it is very controlled snacking within my caloric allotment for the day. Three musketeers bite size mint bars do the trick. I am disciplined to have only three. Salty... tortilla chips, measured out. Or nuts, also weighed out. Figure out what would satisfy a craving most of all, and have it on hand... but always measure the portion, never graze out of the bag!!!!

Scale is down three pounds here. I found my perfect snack is raw sugar snap peas. I can graze away on those, satisfies the need for crunch and the calories are pretty meh.

Yes! My travel companions sometimes feed me such peas while I'm driving. I suppose I ought to look for them in the store. :D

Didn't work out but controlled my snacking and what foods I ate for lunch. My waist was noticeably slimmer so I was happy about that. Now to keep up the food intake and bring in the work again.

Congrats AntiM &Fufa!

Elliot you are doing good too just by paying attention. That is more than most do!

I got my heart rate monitor programmed. I have a dismal resting heart rate, and I don't spring back as quickly as I should. Not much to be done about that except keep up working out as best I can. And losing weight, which is a side effect of working out.

Time for lunch.

Went on a real good walk yesterday, straight from my front door. Except for a "pit stop" back at the house after the first hour, I was out something like four hours. The neighborhood is far from scenic, but I have a trick: I search for things I can use. At the moment, I'm in the market for a carport frame, the kind with a canvas cover. This town is awash in them, and half of those no longer have the canvas. When I see a good candidate, I knock on the door. Here's a typical sample:

Image

No luck yet, but I bet I'll get my hands on one of those for 20 or 40 bucks eventually. Tarps I have.

Now.... I don't pretend this is a photograph -- nothing like the lovely one that Fufa posted a few days ago. But this crude snapshot does show a view at just six block from my front door. We see a glimpse of Clear Lake, and Mount Konocti. Legend holds that Mount Konocti is shaped like the tragic Native Princess Konocti. A big fattening bar of chocolate to the first who can see the Princess.

I went in for my annual checks. Good news, I am not diabetic and I do not have high blood pressure. Bad news, cholesterol is 217, with bad levels on the individual readings. Six months of Vytorin then re-evaluate. And a scolding for not taking my Singulair for my asthma.

Glad for the good parts! (Those are some serious good parts).

. . . I've decided to be a big girl and make an appointment for my stupid left foot, whose big toe still hurts & throws off my walk. (And of course, now I feel a slight--possibly psychosomatic--improvement.) Even though I can handle the recumbent bike, it's cold out for getting to the gym & back, & I miss the instant access of a running workout. My workouts have been down ever since my foot started being particularly moody. I make it to my dance class, but for the rest of the week I have been inconsistent, & so I've been eating a lot of salad to make up for this. But salad doesn't maintain muscle tone . . .

I should also think about getting a GP. I haven't had one since 2006 or so, when the young doc I'd seen a few times left a rude message re: my chest x-ray results. ("Your chest x-rays are negative, is that what you wanted to know? *click*" Um. . . . what? Someone like that should have her support staff make those calls. I merely wanted information, not personal--and negative--attention.)

I see different docs, but it all the same base clinic, so everything is in the computer.

There's a woman in one of my Navy moms discussion groups (long story) who seems to be BRAGGING about her bad numbers after I posted my good news .... it runs in her family, so she isn't even trying because her body "makes" these problems. Argh. Runs in my family too, but I'm not pretending Jesus will keep me healthy. Just gotta wonder at some people, huh?

oneupmanship it's just weird. I kind of figure people who do this must have some kind of self esteem issue. I also find myself rather embarrassed for them.

She's the one who says she's "living her life fully" when I talk about trying to eat healthfully to solve my health issues. I have news for her, chili cheese fries aren't life. The other moms are great, so I stick around. I just can't plonk her like I do here.

Yes, she's stretched out on her side, facing away. From the left; her hair and head, then shoulder and elbow, then her hip in the middle of the photo, and her feet into the lake. Maryanimal has one chocolate bar coming!

AntiM - I feel like Lucky420 does... embarrassed for those types.

Lucky420 - YAY! Man that is a lot of work!! You go girl!!

Me - I did more hooping and dancing this weekend than I have all year. And man are my legs sore. Went to a friend's birthday party and it ended up being a college kegger . At least that meant they had live DJs playing music and lots of interesting people watching opportunities. Even an impromptu band sing-a-long jam in the back deck. And I got to hoop in the backyard in the dark & a friend of a friend took pics so maybe I'll post one in here to keep up with Elliot's tradition. :)

My scales lie like bad dogs. I feel so much more energetic now that I've gotten in the habit of regular sweaty exercise. I've not been able to do more than 30 mins a day of marching for the last 2 wks due to stoopid almond blossom crap in the air. But I'm still marching! Followup thyroid test came back and I'm reasonably "normal" now. Whoot! Hah! Magnesium and exercise did the trick. The AMA sucks - the smart money's on taking ownership of your body and fixing it as best as you can. Too many people want to hand over their health to some schmo who maybe took nutrition as an elective.

I skipped swim today, alien bump hurt like hell. Kept waking me up when I rolled over at night. Had it drained this afternoon, he took out at least a cup of deep red fluid. Looks like cherry juice. My pants are looser!!!!

My weight is still decreasing, not fast, but an average of a pound a week. Some weeks two, some weeks none, but steady and simple.

This is what you want. One to two pounds per week is the healthiest maximum. You can lose faster, but you run the risk of stalling your metabolism or starting to yo-yo.

Good thing too, since I've been putting on fat the last few weeks. This coincides with a new med I've been taking, so that med is out as of now.

Paid my monthly dues at the gym today. Judging by the weather forecast, I may be going there on snow skis tomorrow!

I made myself a hula hoop today! Lot's of hula hooping exercise vidoes for hooping! My hoop seems BIG. I followed the instructiions on making one for my height, and it feels Huuuuuuge! I have enough tubing for abot 7 more hoops! Cheap tubing can be found at home Depot, plus the plastice connectors!

WooHooo! I'm going to hoop my way to healthy!!
