I use those all the time! Camping, the burn, bagged lunches.... They're so great! The serrated edge sometimes gives me canker sores though :(
What you can eat with a fork.. you can eat with hands... soup/spoon whole nother story. lol

Somehow I think pasta and salad don't go so well with hands...

I was raised by monkeys :D

Salad ok yeah a little challenging but why the hell do you have salad on the playa? I would imagine it would wilt REALLY quick. Pasta... oh come on! Thats what wet wipes are for. Toddlers can do it.... so can I. I think at one point I was one.

The plastic or other heavy duty material ones are good, because if you lose it (it happens), you won't be out a lot of money. Basic metal camp utensils are a good option too. Drawback: usually no hole for a string or clip.

Titanium ones are uber-geeky. Mine has a clip, we also have a couple with holes, and one has a multi-purpose tool handle. I've even seen folding ones. They double as necklaces.....

If I were truly geeky, I'd get the Starfleet Academy titanium spork, but ... but ... oh hell. I still might splurge.

A pair of chopsticks is handy too. Stuff a few disposables in your pack, they burn after use.

We need our sporks to eat raisin-curry couscous or our chicken stew with dumplings. And yeah, salad on the playa? Not us!

Of course no salad on the playa! I use the sporks practically everyday, not just on playatime. It stays in my bag so I can avoid using disposable utensils when I buy something at the food court. Also use it when I pack leftovers, or make a salad for lunch. :D

And I always eat Kraft Dinner with a fork, that's a classic playa meal for me!

Yeah my geekness wants the titanium so bad. I see where the plastic are cheaper and you worry about them less but they just aren't titanium.

You can get a decent one for under $10. If I use my Geek Points on ThinkGeek, I may be able to get that Starfleet one for free....

But the plasticy ones are just a couple bucks. Cheap enough to bring a spare to gift!

I seem to have lost the knife out of my knife, fork and spoon set *sigh* - and the knife was the one had had the clip to hold it all together. I had them for 15 plus years... so really non great loss. Plus this way i get to go buy a spork!

Today I spent $65 on a decent pair of over the glasses goggles. Could have gone cheaper but I had a pair for $1 last year i got in a thrift store (slighly broken) - they were crap! And since it's gonna be hell dusty this year I figure it is 65 bucks well spent. Over the glasses goggles are also very ugly. meh. Function over style I say.

I've started my packing list (and purchasing list). It will evolve over time.
This might be helpful for people who are new to all this and are travelling light - and camping. I'm coming from o/s so space and weight are critical.

I hope this helps someone out there who is trying to work out where to start with their list. :D

Love this idea of one item per day! Even though I've been around this block a few times, there's always new things to be done.

Today I researched solar panels. Last year we took a pop-up tent trailer for the first time & it was awesome! We do have a little genny, but I prefer the greener option of recharging our power with solar panels. Looks like I can get a pretty good little setup for around $100. Yay! Now that I found what I want, I just have to work it into the budget...

super strength body lotion and facial wet wipes, both on sale at the drug store!

I've been contemplating solar too, but this year we're downsizing from a group of 10+ in a bus/RV to 2 people in a tent, so we don't have much use for it anymore.

my mom seems to think I am going to be able to pack everything in one camping/hiking back and a back pack... I don't think she knows me that well haha. I figured 2 bags, back pack and my bike along with food and what not. Yeah this is going to be a damn battle with her haha.

I am getting on in Omaha. They have checked bags. You can take up to 6 then your carry on. I could just get on by my house but then I would not be able to take my bike as it has to be checked.

I am getting food, booze and water in Reno. One bag with all my stuff like tent , sleeping bag, bathroom ect. The other bag will be clothes. then my carry on with stuff i need.

yep most cost effective way to do it by far and is almost shorter then driving. It takes about 35 hours on the train. 28 driving. So I figure with gas stops, food, maybe sleeping.. it is about the same or shorter.

True story! Only thing I have to "Stress" about is figuring out my ride back from omaha. I get in at like 4:30 am thursday. Pretty sure no one is going to want to do that one.

Best advice on food for the playa, if you haven't tried it before, don't make it your primary food source.

We ate salad a few times last year. Bell peppers and carrots do well on the playa (at least in my experience), we also threw in some mushrooms. The lettuce we brought was in a "box" and lasted until we ate it! :)

I love sporks. I have a plastic one I take camping.

And on another note - I picked up a really neato purply fur Bebe coat at the Salvation Army for $4.20! It's not super heavy so I'll have to layer under or save it for a "warm" playa night.

Purple fluffy coat for less that 5 bucks... I envy you!

Yesterday I ordered a UV LED hula hoop. I'm thinking it will go nicely with my outfits that have glow-in-the-dark accents.

Was placing a couple items in one of my Burning Man storage boxes. Unfortunately a camp lantern rolled off the shelf in the process. Ten foot drop didn't do the lantern any good. Looks like I'll be adding a camp lantern to my buy list
