One Item for BM a Day (2010-2012)
Re: One Item for BM a Day
I LOVE the Life+gear glowstick/flashlights! I think I own 5 or 6 of them, and they've come in handy so many times. You can buy them in packs of 3 for $10.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I bought a new queen size self inflating air mattress today. I know the old junky one I have now won't do the trick and I wanted one that was raised up. I will have to sleep on it a few times when it gets here to see if I need any memory foam for it.
I also ordered a EL wire kit so that I can play around with it and help me come up with some ideas.

My bike lights came in today. I thought they were going to be pink
they are like a blue purple but none the less I will no longer be a darkwad and they were $2 for 2 of them.

Oh, thanks! I'm rooting for this one as its under $15 and has free shipping. All the Hong Kong sellers trick you with $0.10 wigs with $20 shipping.

Purchased a sleeping bag liner - one of the fancy ones that claims it gives you an extra 10C in temperature. Was a little cold out there last year in my ancient sleeping bag. Hoping this makes enough difference.
Also did my first Kickstarter donation - if I can't be there to help build the damn art and "spaces" then at least I can help the people who can.

You have to see NOTHING yet, komrade. IF we shall to get sufficient Defektors from other Kamps nyet forming, New Konskripts, and Repatriation of loyal Apokiliptik Minions and Denziens of years past, we will have Apokiliptika that shall to bury other kamps like Kruschev buried western enemy with glorious Apokiiliptik Soviet Socialist MIGHT!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Today I bought me some new playa boots! Last year I got a new pair of these babies

and they proved to be the best playa footwear I've found to date. So now I'm (mostly) giving up on the platform stompers & got me a pair of comfy lace-up black boots with a mere 1" heel. Here's to extended wanderings & no blisters in 2012!

I bought it about a year ago, I love the branding from swag camp I got done on it at the last burn.

I had wondered about the brand-mark and where it came from . . .

Hit up Swag Camp this year then! They had close to a dozen different sizes and designs, and branded anything non-human.Savannah wrote:I had wondered about the brand-mark and where it came from . . .

I might even pack more leather than usual, once I determine they're coming.
Thanks for the referral, Fufa.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
So just went looking out in the garage at my mom's house for the camping back pack. This summer we renovated a house that was abandoned by a horder. We took all the stuff out and had a garage sale. Well we have alot of it left over in the garage and went and looked through all the sewing stuff and fabric she had. Found some really good stuff!! Found this super heavy fleece so Now I ca make a short playa coat! Found about half yard of this fur Not sure what I am going to make out of that sense there is not much. Also found some courtaroy , no idea what to do with that. Umm and some like light weight pollyester in green and mint. Also found those garter clamps. Have to do some thinking on what Im going to make out of all of this.
Also found battery powered Christmas lights. They are orange but whatever. Can use them on guy lines.
Ok also get this. That pattern I was looking for for a onsie.... the guys one.... Found it out there to. It is a meduim but figure I can make it bigger.

Half yard of fur (depending on width) might be enough for a small fur collar, cuffs, animal hat or animal ears (on a headband, sewn to a hood, or similar). Or boot toppers.
I totally bookmarked that wig store; thank you.

Fufa I love the pure whimsey of your skirt! That looks like one of those projects that you could just keep changing/adding to whenever the mood strikes & always end up with something cool & funky.
I was inspired by TattooGoddess' post about hair falls & so today I did some experimenting with foam pieces & some different decorative elements. Methinks I'll have some awesome looking non-hair this year...

If you like hair falls, and have the time to put into it, I would recommend making dreadfalls. I wore them last year, and they were fantastic, but because I did it the hard way and braided them into my hair (rather than putting them on a hairband) I'm opting for wigs with year. All you need for dreadfalls are a ton of yarn and some white glue. PM me and I can show you what mine look like and link you instructions. Some people at walmart thought mine were real hair!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Love Love Love Synth Dreads. I have mine in right now. They are so easy to deal with and style. I have mind braided in though cause I only have like 4 inches of hair. Dread falls on a hair band are good and easy to! I am suprised to see more people on the playa dont have them. Just a bit of dry shampoo and whala!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
All the instructions I have seen show how to make dreadfalls as pony tail type things - do you know a way to make them full head?
The only thing I'll have to attach them to is a rather short (2" mohawk). I plan to make one set built into a hat, but I'd like to make another set that is just cyberlocks.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Question about dread falls/hair falls. Are they hot? (sweaty hot, not hot hot) Do they pull on your real hair? I have pretty thick naturally curly hair so my head is well insulated. Dread falls almost look like they would be kind of warm and tug on your scalp. On la playa I just usually throw my hair up in a clip because of ease and it's just cooler (as in temp, not cool cool)
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: One Item for BM a Day
I did the dreadfalls that have a core of ~16 strings of yarn, and then i tightly wrapped them with an outer string of thicker (usually wool not synthetic) yarn with my colour of choice. The top was a loop with another piece of yarn running through it for attachment, and the bottom was tied off, cut, and sealed with glue. To attach mine I braided all my hair in small braids (its rather long, mid back), and then tied the dreads into the bases with some pretty extreme knots. I had to be very careful when I cut them out later. The only real caveat to them was they felt heavy and pulled at my scalp uncomfortably. Some of the dreads still fell out, because my braids were slippery from coating with leave-in conditioner to protect them.Drawingablank wrote:All the instructions I have seen show how to make dreadfalls as pony tail type things - do you know a way to make them full head?

The only thing I can think of to be able to attach yours is to let your hair grow until the burn, turn that 2' mohawk into a 3 or 4" one to give the best base. Back comb the very ends quite a bit to make them rough to hold them in better. Then have a friend tie them in quite firmly, and even to a core wrap around the base and up a few inches to totally incase your hair and give the most surface area contact. But even then, they might not be totally secure. I thought mine were solid, and they weren't.
Another option instead of ponytail, is you do a headband, or attach them to a wig base or mesh cap. You would get fuller coverage without needing the hair to support it.
This is what my version of dreadfalls look like: A mix of the wrap around technique, and braided yarn from a hair fall workshop I did in '10.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
lucky420: Yes, they get really warm. I used a wide headband to keep them off my forehead, and kept them in a ponytail the whole burn.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I would imagine that depends on how full they are and what they are made from. Mine are tubular crinoline (the closest I can describe it is to imagine stretchy tulle rolled into a tube) and weigh virtually nothing. They are open and airy being basically mesh. Wool / yarn, foam, synth hair, etc... I haven't tried but they look like they would be much heavier and warmer.lucky420 wrote:Question about dread falls/hair falls. Are they hot? That looks really nice Fufa. Braiding is not an option for me as I would probably not want to wear them all the time - so far I'm considering attaching them to some type of super heavy duty hair clip, but am still open for suggestions.
