Re: 2012 Burning Man Art Grants
I almost finalized my grant application, but there is one problem still: I'd need to find out what sheets of plywood of approx 4 centimeters thick would cost, or an alternative if they are not available (pine?)
Here in the Netherlands I know everything, but it's another story to find out across the Ocean with the time difference and the clock ticking towards the deadline.........
So I really hope someone will read this today and can let me know!
keeping my fingers crossed!

Try this website. There are 3 Home Depot stores in Reno, NV. This ought to help you set a price for plywood, even if you don't buy from them. I believe they will allow you to have an order waiting for you, though, if you're flying into Reno.

If this doesn't work, speak up--someone here is bound to know more about it than me.

Re: 2012 Burning Man Art Grants
thanks Savannah - I tried homedepot.com, but their maximum thickness is 23/32.
Other options where I could check? Calling as you can imagine is a bit more difficult from the Netherlands and I'd have to wait till the evening (it's morning here now) I also tried Lowes.com, but same story, so am keeping my fingers crossed that someone can help me here from the U.S. while the clock keeps ticking............

Get in touch with the Reno regional group, or someone from the Temple Of Transition team. They can probably put you in touch with the name/number of a good lumber yard in the area that can quote you on the materials you'll need.
Re: 2012 Burning Man Art Grants
thanks. I sent the Reno group an email via their site and will try to contact the Temple people.trilobyte wrote:Get in touch with the Reno regional group, or someone from the Temple Of Transition team. But now need to concentrate on finalizing the grant proposal. This detail of finding one quote across the ocean already took me all morning, but with all the emails sent and posts on FB burning groups and here etc I should be able to find an answer soon I hope. In the Netherlands finding out the prices took me 5 minutes, and of course almost everyone is asleep in the U.S. now...........'sigh'

4cm (1.5 inch) should be a little more by a few dollars per sheet.
can you use 1 1/8" plywood?

Thanks to everyone here and via PM for all the feedback!
I just pressed the 'send' button and all has left the building! It's already 4 PM here, but at least that is an advantage living in the Netherlands - there are still a few hours left till the deadline
Though different from last year's Exchanghibition Bank project it will again deal with money.
And no, I am not going to burn a million dollars: http://blog.artasmoney.com/art-as-money ... sh-pounds/
But I will need a lot of one-dollar banknotes..............

well looks like I saw this too late for your grant but the Trojan Horse and Temple got wood here http://www.ttlco.com/
we used 1 1/8" plywood for the trojan horse wheels it was the best option cost/thickness wise we could find

How did this work out for people in light of the ticket problem?

Re: 2012 Burning Man Art Grants
Does anyone know when we can expect to hear back about art grant applications? Has this already happened and I just didn't get a grant? Any info is appreciated. Thanks a bunch

Re: 2012 Burning Man Art Grants
It might take longer before they put up the page listing the honorarium art grant projects (last year it was in late May, I think), but as chiefdanfox said they should reach decisions and notify the teams sometime in March.
