Awesome finds! Yah for you.Oldguy wrote:A neighbor put a coleman cooler out with a free sign on it. I obtained it. It had broken plastic hinges which I repaired.I cut up a bicycle tube to make 2 rubber squares and screwed them to the place the plastic hinges had broken from bending.
I went to the thrift store and bought a garage shelter for 17 bucks. The tubes were huge, 2 inches round and HEAVY. I also got an oval table/chair cover for 3 bucks, to cover my four man tent. It's HUGE. On the way home I stopped at a free sale of yardsale items and picked up a chair cushion, radio, 1 gallon lidded pitcher, and several small household items.

BOOTS!!!!

A little big with the thinner socks I tried them on with, but that's normal for me. Few companies make a women's 10.5. It leaves room though for great inserts and thick socks.
Not BM related but received this poster in the mail today too. I take it as a good sign re: the boots.

129% increase - yowch! That does remind me, I need to touch base with the truck lead for our camp to make sure he's got the box truck reservation booked. Not only to make sure the equipment's reserved, but to get the hard numbers for the planning spreadsheet.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
I've been trying to do one item a day, but I'm having a run of "temporary setbacks".
My set of foam hair falls is getting a re-think after some of the glow stars that I tried to attach with Super Glue did not pass the whack-em-on-the-table stress test.
I also started to re-fashion an old costume dress. As the dress is now a little too small (must have shrunk in the dryer, heh) I took off the back zipper & went to put in gromets to make it a corset back. I tried to cheat & bought some trim tape that was already grometed. Got one side sewn on & yanked on it for the stress test & found that those pre-done gromets just popped right out of the fabric! Gonna have to do that one the old fashioned way by putting in my own gromets it seems.
Today's project is going well so far. I'm making cheddar cheese from scratch. If this turns out well, I'll have just enough time to make a new batch to take with me to the Playa.

Put in my placement questionnaire to have the Home listed as a theme camp within a village.

I don't knit, but I crochet. I know lots of people who make crochet bikinis. I assume you could do knit ones too.
Also, I'm making some funky scarves and hats for at night. One of these is on my list:
The current plan, in addition to my myriad of other crochet projects is to do a different scarf for every night and to make two of them. One to wear and the other to gift to the first person to compliment me on the scarf. You can always use cotton yarn to keep things cooler.

I think that crocheting can do circles easier. Knitting is good for squarer things...
Scarf, leg warmers/arm warmers... I wonder if a cozy for your camelback bladder would keep it colder...

Also, Ravelry.com is your friend. Thousands of free patterns. Others you can purchase through the site. User friendly, you can contact the designers. For example, under knit bikini, I found this:

which I am extremely disappointed isn't a crochet pattern and that I don't have the self confidence to wear it.

I can get a five pack for around $5, then use a 40% off coupon. Indeed. It's cheap for around here, but then I'm in one of the more expensive areas in the country...

Neat scarf, Vulturechow. I really like the skulls and mushrooms motif.
Remi, I second Fishy's suggestions, particularly of arm warmers because they are both useful and unexpected.
Hats are always good, not just because it's cold at night, but also to hide disaster hair.
And men & women like them equally . . .
. . . If I were going to knit or crochet for the playa, I might be tempted to see if I could make sleeping masks in the classic shape, with dark yarn. Having a mask gets me an extra 90 minutes of sleep of a playa morning. Not everybody uses them, though, and it's less likely to come up in conversation if someone needs one. Having one spare would be fun; more traditional wearables would get more use overall.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Well it's not really a preparation item but I finally mounted up most of my favorite swag from 2011 as a nice memory trigger every time I walk past. I had to leave out a beautiful tie dyed and silk screened bandanna since I couldn't use it if it was under glass and it would have taken up most of the frame anyway.
BDC&WB cork on top, HFWWA swag bag, M&G name tag, tickets, assorted stickers, and a variety of printed stuff.

Drawingablank, I love it! Cumulatively, It has an antique look that wouldn't be obvious piece-by-piece. You make me want to do this too!
It's amazing all on its own, but imagine how a home library with a few of these would look when you've got several Burns under your belt?

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I love it and have to pause and reflect on it every time I walk by (pretty often since it is above the light switch for my office).
The sort of antique look was purely accidental, but I think it comes from all that sepia toned paper.
And yes, I am looking forward to hopefully creating an entire wall of these.

I think its about 16 x 24 inches or so.
I made it years ago to frame a ship blueprint and it was sitting here unused.
Next one I think I'll make a shadow box though so I can add stuff that isn't flat.
