Just did a search for Burning Man tickets, and saw them on Stub Hub and Ebay for almost $1000. Are you f*** kidding me? I've been to Burning Man 15 years and I'm sick to death that I didn't get a ticket this year!!! Burning Man is like a religion to me. I even got married at the temple. I must say, you guys really screwed up this year, and if I don't get a ticket through this step program, I don't think I will ever attempt to go again. I will definitely boycot the event, and encourage others to do the same. If there is no loyalty to all us long time burners, I feel no loyalty or sense of community to Burning Man!!!

Welcome to ePlaya. And welcome to scarcity. Last year after the event sold out in late July, tickets were selling for the same prices (and higher). If it's any consolation, the number of tickets being offered through those sites is a tiny fraction of the overall supply, and significantly less than the number of tickets being offered up for sale above face value for other 'hot ticket' events (Coachella, Madonna, Bonnaroo, etc).

You seem to overlook the possibility that at least some those 161 tickets are being sold by folks that call themseves burners - they are not necessarily professional scalpers.

I know it's hard to think of members of our community doing this as it goes against tradition, ethos, or whatever you want to call it, but I fear that is probably the case.

..and this would be assuming that all 161 are legit and not just smoke and mirrors since no one actually has tickets yet.

If catholics walked away that easily, it would have taken one child-rape scandel to cause walk-outs of half the congregation in every parish in the world. NO, no everyone, this is what we need.
Sure 161 burners don't get to go because .3% of tickets sold ended up in the hands of scalpers, but something like 13,000 people don't get to go because of the BLM cap on our population.
We need more people like dragonslayer who are willing to stand up and say "I'm not going ever again, and no one else should also" because thats the only way we'll get demand back under supply.

I have never been & you have 15 under your belt.
I consider you fortunate for attending what may turn out to be the best burns ever. I wish you the best of luck for this year. I hope to go every year from now on but realistically I doubt that will happen. Again, GOOD LUCK.

Last year after the event sold out in late July, tickets were selling for the same prices (and higher).

Also keep in mind that all the prices you see are *asking* prices, meaning we don't know what they really sell for. Scalpers will ask for the highest prices, especially this early in the game. Last year we saw some insanly high prices, but we have no idea how many were actually sold like that. On ebay in particular, burners were bidding up tickets to crazy prices, just to ruin it for the scalpers.

If no one buys at these prices, the scalpers will have to sell them for less.

OK lets just cut the bullshit about the newbies getting the tickets.First off how do they know.The survey said that it would not be attached to your ticket request.If they are basing this on the survey that's what the ticket scalpers bot was programed to say.The theme camps said they were awarded only 20 to 25 % of the tickets they needed.These numbers runs true in the group of burner'sI know.So who has the tickets?BM.org thinks this lottery was a success.Maid Marion said that in a LA times last Tuesday.It was for BM.org because they made a big payday.They were able to sell 40,000 tickets all in 1 day in which last year it took 7 months to sell out.So they say the demand went up that much in a bad economy PleaseThen again BM.org in their quest for money managed to get 25,000 of the 53,000 tickets sold in the highest tiers 390 and 420.Gee the term money grubing whores comes to mind.This has caused some real pain for the community and some here on this board just don't care.To me thats the sad part.So was it worth it BM.org to get the money and fuck the community.I hope the money is comforting for you to have torn the community apart.

Ive been going since 1996 and ive only been on eplaya since september of this year.

But if hes been going for 15 years and is giving up this fast, well that says nothing more than he gives up easily....
