Food Banks
Food Banks
Angels in the Community Inc., a new nonprofit charity has opened in Reno. They are accepting gifts of food, clothing, and medical supplies for the needy. They are open M,W,TH from 10 am till 4 pm. They are located about 2 blocks from the VA Hospital in Reno. Their address is 316 Broadway, between S.Wells and Locust Street. Many foodbank and Gleaners programs support burners, yearround. Shelves and iceboxes need filling this Winter, still. I recommend supporting them and your own local programs.

Re: Food Banks
They're probably not open Labor Day, alas. They could probably get all sorts of non-parishables.

Re: Food Banks
@oldguy, if you could check with them to see whether they'd be open on Labor Day, that would be helpful.
Re: Food Banks
Good idea, I just e-mailed the request and also asked if they could open more than 3 days each week( before and after Burningman). BTW they have their own website...
Re: Food Banks
Your request was granted, They will be open on Labor Day per their regular schedule. MWTh 10-4.

Re: Food Banks
It would be very awesome to have them coordinate with DPW and the community to gather food after the burn on playa. Very in vibe with the future nonprofit and the current direction and goals of the org. It's also an opportunity to extend the Reno food bank activities to communities that are affected by BM. Does DPW already donate some of what they gather to organizations like this?

Re: Food Banks
I doubt that they or DPW have the resources available (mobile refrigeration/storage capacity, etc) to facilitate an on-playa dropoff point. Plus, I think the DPW collects donations to try and help cover their own needs). But getting the word out about their location and directions for folks passing through who may care to donate could be helpful for those who over-packed.
Re: Food Banks
I have requested adding a list of charitable non-profit,service orgs to be added to the jackrabbitspeaks newsletter at the appropriate time, we are 6 months out from the event. I also requested the webmaster to add a list , we have a resource page listing businesses; why not non-profits who need our donations?

I'm giving this a nudge to the Get Involved board.
