Shadowboxes show up at the big box craft stores on sale all the time. Most are 11x14. The real trick is to find one on sale which has an additional coupon... (cough Michaels cough). I've done my burner one, several for family concerning military family members, even Mom's cat pins and earrings. Pretty darn easy. I also do random printer boxes with odd bits of burneralia for the Home. I put notes on the back of those saying it is all glued in place and not to dismantle the piece. They make small shadowboxes too, I use those for old photos embellished with lace and "antique" doodads as gifts.

Ordered a pair of photocromatic goggles. Don't like having to change lens. This way one set will take care of both day and night.

Thrift shop haul!

- 3 giant happy face plush flowers on twisty wire core stalks
- a cool patterned skirt/dress/shawl that can be worn in so many ways. It has no tags so I'm still not sure what its original purpose was.
- a short, white, button up sun dress

Picked up 3 more flip-top bins at The Apocalypse Costco. We'll probably get a few more for additional camp gear, art, and supplies, but these were 'immediate need' bins that will probably get used for clothing and fabric just as soon as I get them stenciled.

Tried to buy some new playa boots - failed. But it was a decent attempt. Decided that with a bit of love and some new insoles the old pair will do for another year.

Now I am about to try to wash my tent - as it is covered in playa dust. I’ve not been brave enough until now to brave it. Wish me luck.

Luck Mel. A bit of unsolicited advice: Take it to one of those laundromats that have industrial sized washers. Throw that puppy in there and it will get clean. That's what we do with the "astroturf" that the Barbies are on marching towards the ovens, and around our RV. Works like a charm. And all of the playa dust, and believe me, if you're doing carpeting (which I realize you're not) there will be large piles of playa dust, well more accurately playa dirt, on the floor of the laundromat, which then becomes their problem. OK, so I can be a jerk sometimes, but I did pay for the right to use the washers.

Thanks Doc. It actually looks like the deluging in water and jumping up and down on it has got rid of a lot of the dust. My tent did not get the “carpet” punishment, so it really wasn’t that bad.

However, in reflection I should have gone to the laundromat as now i have playa dust (and mud) all over my bathroom. Shit happens.

Oh well, lesson learned. Next year I will hit the laundromat... and they can clean up the playa dust.

isn't there a thread, somewhere, about "good deals" on playa stuff?
like a certain cataloge, if it has some good stuff for the playa on sale?
I can't remember the name, and, can't find it in random searches.

Mel:

can't you just tow your tent and stuff, behind the boat, as you sail home? That'd get it clean, no?

Just went to dollar general to pick up butt paper and cat food. I cruised the clearance isle and found 5 sets of ear plugs for $2 a Band-aid anti chaffing and shoe friction stick for $1, a LED stick for $3 (no idea if it works I think the batteries are dead) and then 2 9 LED light mini flashlights for $4 with batteries. Speaking of batteries, does anyone know where you can get those little round batteries (LR44's) that go in LED sticks for cheap? I saw them for like $2.49 each!! IKES.

If you don't mind shipping you can get 15 of them for about $5.69 with shipping. If you want more the batteries are 90 cents for 5 of them and the shipping probably would not go up unless you got like 100 or more. Here is the link but there are lots of other deals similar on the web: http://www.everydaysource.com/product/A ... tery/84191

Not so much an item a day, but what I have been busy with all winter here in the snow.

Scored some leather pants, matching leather trench coat, and a soft leopard print vest. Also found
some knee hi boots that lace all the way up. But have a zipper on the side, since I can't tie my
my shoes anyways. And a tutu!
Got some pvc to extend my carport. And found two 15 gal. water barrels.
Some more solar lights to put on my rebar, and 2 more string solars.
Finished tearing down and repainting both the trike and cruiser. Now adding crushed velvet
to the frames and the lighting. Repairing the wagon for ice hauls.

Now just hoping for some patience to get hold of a ticket. (clicks heels 3 times)

We had a warm day today so I just practised drinking lukewarm PBR for 5 hours.

We used these basic plans from http://www.chromatest.net/Lovemonkey/ with the additional 5' and the approx cost before tax for the pvc was $50

The hydration pack I've been thinking about was just discontinued, so picked that up last night on discount. There is just enough storage in the pocket for essentials: plate, bowl, spork, and daily expendables: energy bars, first aid/personal care and other small minor items. There are a few places for carabiners too. No need to wear both a camelback and a belt pack and still small enough to fit under a jacket.
I have discovered the ultimate question to life the universe and everything. "Does it burn?"
