My fellow North American burners,

As you can see from this thread, our current policy of Mutual Assured Drunkeness (MAD) has been an abject failure. Although we've managed to ply the invaders with enough alcohol to forget about the invasion each time, most of them manage to sober up within 12 months and just invade again.

We should probably come up with a better plan for a long term solution to this dilemma.

On a serious note (not to hijack the thread), is there much need for interpreters on the playa? Maybe the rangers or the medics need an interpreter sometimes? I'm fluent in Spanish (not such a rare skill) and I also know quite a bit of Japanese. I did fill out that bit on the volunteer questionnaire...

I'm certain needs arise, although I don't think there's anything like a formal structure. I'm guessing Japanese is more useful, based on my interactions, stories I've heard, and just plain old eyeballing the demographics (i.e., highly inaccurate methods).
I am that little uncomfortable to commenting on the medics' need, because of privacy concerns.

I know enough German to turn the Kraut Sauer, just enough Russian to start WW3, and enough Spanish to make Mexico want to re-invade the USA. I also speak enough Italian to pay my taxes, shoot a firearm, flirt with our local CFS officer (Forestry police) when he drives by (26, and is, no joke, Yggie hot!) and keep the power on, tho with an atrocious American accent.

Is also to help when one must be on alert to overthrow Burner Hostel encampments...
