Well fuck, it does appear that I am the new target at work. Three co-workers fired for insubordination last two weeks and yesterday I get written up for "failure to take direction" and you guessed it, insubordination. Keep in mind that I work an internal i.t. helpdesk and I had to explain to my boss what HDD meant. This is after 12 years of glowing reviews. I bet when we can re-do the union vote thing it passes, though I doubt i'll still be here. There is a pattern, I can't go into it online.

So, we might be forced into decommodification here pretty quick. Only jobs in our little town paper are fry cook at dairy queen and night maid at LaQuinta. I can do both and still not make 1/2 of what I make now. Golden handcuffs, and if this goes the way that it did for my friends, it will be sooner rather than later and we won't be able to pay for the house. We have a small amount of reserve, but not near enough. Fuck.

Would be the shits to have to sell Kendoll's family land huh? Fuck. You have to swallow a lot of shit sometimes.

I'd document the crap out of everything, the 12 good reviews, VS the latest one, the 3 who were just cut loose, etc... Sounds like they're downsizing, and the worthless fuck running what passes for HR is a spineless fuck who can't handle that aspect of their job. Fuck. Hell, if it were me, I'd go up to one of the head honcho execs and ask, flat out, are you guys downsizing, if so, I'd rather know ahead of time than play a game so I can leave with a good record, rather than play some stupid silly game that will leave a bad taste in everyones mouth. (Yeah, I do stick my foot in it every so often!!) Just remember - they can lie like a fucking rug too, so you have to read their body language more than their lips.

Serious - I saved my job more than once by sidestepping the asshole and talking to someone informally like that, who honestly had NO idea this supervisor was doing dickishly illegal crap. But be ready to shake their hand, ask for their advice, and plan a hasty retreat if they give you the "Um... Yeah... but don't tell anyone, OK?"...

Did they give you a reason for "insubordination" and support it with fact, numbers? If I were you, I would escalate the issue to manager or anyone higher... go as high as you can if you dont get response.
Bring it in open and demand "facts" that supports their stance. Also, have your facts ready as to why you think this is a false accusation.
This way, atleast it wouldnt be easy for them to move to, what they think as, the next best thing to do.

Fight for it TK! We cant control what will happen, but you can atleast take few of those b@#$!@$S down.

Well Fuck, I made it through another day at work. Still fucking employed.
But, Fuck, about two weeks ago I submitted an idea to one of the assistant GM's at work (not my food chain) and today he called for me to come flesh out the idea with him. I fucking did, and about 1/2 way through the presentation he fucking stopped me and said "where's your spunk?" I just fucking smiled and kept going, so he stopped me again "where's that built in enthusiasm of yours?" and I had a full blown fucking panic attack. Fucking shaking, couldn't even talk. He was very fucking sweet and talked me through breathing with him. Calmed me down, then said "what" and boom, full on fucking panic attack again. Fuck. Talked me down again. What Boom several fucking times. He said we'd come back to it. I think I managed to stutter out scared, fired, mortgage, college and kids. He said we wouldn't talk about it anymore today. To go on as many walks as I needed to get through the day. Asked if i'd talked to HR BOOM. Calmed me down (hr is in the same food chain as me, not a warm and fucking fuzzy place). Anyway, he checked in several times. My direct fucking boss didn't even fucking talk to me all day.

But he did say my idea was brilliant.

ETA: jax dee, I wish I had allowed my spine to heal on it''s own. Surgery on the spine isn''t always the best solution. If I had known this I would've have waited ten years and perhaps my lower back issues would be okay today. The body can heal if given enough time. (my 2 cents)

I've been places where long term employees, making decent money, all of a sudden became insubordinate, had awful attendance, violated safety rules, and were fired in groups almost. I hate the fucking laziness of managing the bottom line through payroll: not waste, not margin, not damage, just payroll. Ask for clarification and direction, sincerely, and perhaps on record, if they had you sign anything. Document all conversations with superiors around this issue. Do not talk to your co-workers about it while at work. To new managers, grouses stick out. Cultivate the ones who appreciate you. cookies, great idea mdf.

All this documentation stuff is ok if you are in a gov't job, or possibly union protected contract.

Most private employment is "at will" and employees can be terminated for any reason including a bad hair day. Stirring things up by documenting, jumping the chain of command, etc. are more than enough reason by themselves.

Hunker down, stay under the manager's radar; and start looking for another job.

oh, and FUCK, I quit a committee I was working on because of internal politics. Sent in my notice this morning, won't be at tommorrow's meeting!! and I will sleep better.

Took my lil' bro to the ER today, thank goodness we have the biggest and best hospital in the city right on school campus. After lots of waiting, tests, and consults with a dozen different docs, they finally all agreed it was appendicitis and he went into surgery a couple hours ago. Such an exhausting day. He was pretty freaked out about it, but it looks like he's gonna be fine.

So this isn't really a "fuck" to us, but a "damn.... that's shitty".
