I thought of you, all of you, my freinds on Thursday night.
I should have asked Kate & Keith to say hello... as I was not on playa and wanted to let you know how highly in esteem I hold ALL of you.
Thank you for being my freind, over the days, months & years.
It was an odd year, for me, as years go. Too fast for a turtle, slow for a hare.
So I sat still in time, to see what passed and what stayed.
I am very glad that you all made it, and saw each other and HUGGED, you FUCKERS HUGGED, and that alone makes my day and week and year much more elated.
See you in 05', a promise to myself.
Yee haw!

Hey!
It was so fantastic to meet ALL of you! I just knew I would have a fabulous time, and I did. I think I can speak for Steve as well when I say that. Truly, the Meet and Greet was one of my most favorite parts of the entire week. It was good times all around. Thank you Rob the Wop for turning the remainder of my time there (at the Meet and Greet) into a green haze. It was pleasant. Thank you EVERYONE else for being such pleasant people. I don't want to go into naming people either, for fear that I might leave someone out. But know that I freaking LOVE all of you! Yes, that means YOU!
It's taken me a while to post anything because I've been going through a variety of emotions. Mostly sadness and a slight depression at realizing how crummy people are to each other in the "real" world. Maybe not just the realization, but I've become much more aware I guess? The way we interact with each other at Burning Man is the way we should interact with each other on a daily basis, not just on the playa. I miss that. I've been saying hello to most people I walk by on the street, and very few of them will even say hello in return, let alone strike up an actual conversation with you. I started crying at the China Diner on Tuesday because as I was sitting there waiting for my food, surrounded by 30 other people in a tiny little place, and NO ONE was talking to anyone that wasn't in their party. And I freaking cried. I guess this is somewhat normal? That's why we need to "decompress"? I instantly fell in love with Black Rock City, and now see why so many people call it "home". I've left a peice of my heart on the playa, and eagerly await my return.
Hey sorry for the thread drift you guys...
once again back on track!
It was TERRIFIC to meet you all! I had a GREAT time, and you bet your booty I'll be there next year!

Your very welcome re: La Fee Verte. This saddens me too, I used to smile and say 'hiya' to everyone around me when I was younger. This just reminds me of how much I have changed from when I was in my teens.souldancer wrote: I've been saying hello to most people I walk by on the street, and very few of them will even say hello in return, let alone strike up an actual conversation with you.
Try wearing something goofy/funny around the same street. Walk down it and make eye contact, if they then look away- well some people are born with sticks embedded in their rectal cavities. If they look back and smile, wave and shout "Good Morning!".
I think part of the appeal of art cars and such is that people are more likely to respond to them. I have a little three wheeled electric vehicle that looks like a helicopter without blades. Once the work on my house is done, I'll start up with airbrushing it to a WWII flying ace. I wear a WWII barnstormer's cap, goggles and a silk scarf (picture Snoopy's outfit). I look goofy driving around like that, know it, and love it. But people tend to smile, laugh, and wave to me. They often come up and ask me questions.
So be weird and funny. Take the 'lessons' of Burning Man back out into the real world. Screw what people think, if you let other's perceptions of you mold your behavior- you have lost your own individuality. Even the act of wearing a pirate outfit with a giant parrot hat down a busy city street at noon should make you grin- and others WILL respond. You will have made their day and people generally respond to that.

And take a look at joining your local Cacos. It helps to be weird.

Meant to get there, very sorry I missed it. Basically, I forgot, even though Technopatra reminded me just a few hours beforehand. I think I spent the time freezing my ass off on top of some art bus instead.
Biggest regret is missing Cpt. Goddammit by a few seconds as his boat pulled out of Cafe Village. Just too tired to give chase. Oh well, maybe next year.

Wish I'd been those few seconds later in pulling out of the cafe.
And if you were tired I'd have cruised you anywhere in BRC. Damn, I knew there was someone else I didn't get to meet.

souldancer, I don't know if it helps any, but all is not friendly and glorious in BRC. Many days I rode my bike around saying hi to people and most times only 1 out of 6 or 10 would say hi back. I sat at my camp lounge and waved and said hi to the passing people, and the same thing. Those that did stop and say hi back, we made new friends and had a nice conversation. Those that didn't, well, we didn't. It didn't bother me- I found it slightly humourous...people are more friendly in theory in the playa but not always in practice. It's just like the rest of the world. Some people are more friendly than others. So keep on smiling and saying hi to people you pass by. Sooner or later you'll get a bite and a new friend!

Are we going to have to take this over to the crush thread? It's starting to get awfully sappy over here.

izzit august yet?
Great to meet all of you as well, tho I was SERIOUSLY starting to fade there at the end. Dammit, Rob the Wops' concoction kicked my furry white keister as well, and he only gave me half a shot! I LITERALLY was walking home with my eyes closed.
Bambi, GREAT outfit, not at all surprised you were freezing your arse off.
Lydia, really must try absinthe one o' these fine centuries, tho your opinion of it was a little off-setting!
Dr. Pyro, didn't talk to you as much as I might have liked, tho your partner in crime explained that you don't hate Barbie, it's just that you get nekkid girls to bring in their barbie dolls, and then you ply them with booze to get them to stay. Evil man! Why didn't I think of that?
Silver, damn, dude, didn't realize you were so friggin' tall!
Cap'n Goddamit, sorry we didn't get more of a chance to chat, & I didn't get a chance to sample your margaritas. That guy had to back out, breaking off our conversation.
Fat Sam, I was really pretty wasted by the time I talked with you. My apologies to you, and everyone else I may have talked to and don't remember. I'm not even really sure how I got home that night! I think I got lost on Orions' belt at least once...
Got to henna a few people, sure there were other ones I missed. Anyway, great gifts, great people, great times.
Christ, this sounds like a beer commercial or something...

It was great to attach faces to names at the meet and greet. My only regret was having to leave early so that I could get back to my camp and pamper my overtaxed wife. I really wish I could have stayed to see the entrire BRR incedent.
I got to meet a good number of you, Doc Pyro (thanks for hosting), Lydia Love (you rock! Great hug), Rob the Wop (sent me into happy yellow land with your green elixer), Rabbi Dali Rick (even funnier in person, Wow), Captain Goddamit (Damn man, you're slick. A true pleasure to meet you. I just wish I had taken a ride on the Playa Cruiser), Silver (what a presence), Crypto (thanks for the gator), Bambi (cool outfit), Ring-Of-Fire, Sparkletarte, The Judge, Zoolonooga (sp?), Fat Sam, Magikal, Anti M (finally got the name), Dogboy, and a few others I'm sure I forgot (sorry). Damn good to meet you all!
Hopefully next time I'll have to opportunity to meet Badger, Patience, Alice, RebA, Ivy, Calsur, Just Joel, Nipples, Das Bus, Kinetic, Jezebel, Sobretta Fanjipan and most definitely Technopatra (did she show up?). Just can't fit everything in.
Thank you all, you were the best part of my burn!

Captain, now we're ALL gonna ruin your reputation.
Maybe you should take some smack down lessons from Arson Island.
Or are you too scared after seeing what happened to Orange?
Ya'll are gonna get it next year.
oh, and i thoroughly second the bit about anyone who refuses to greet Sparkletarte being a bit messed in the head. She's just so damn loveable!
Oh course, ST, you have to realise that some of us are surly by nature and design both. We're just bastards. And the problem is, we like it that way.
Now get your little ass on the BCWA list like i told ya!

Aw, Rian. I may not be up to your level of surly (I specialize in trickery, sarcasm, and, especially, witty slap-downs), but I know you have a chewy gooey centre inside your surliness. And really, "we're just bastards" coming from your cute huggy mug? Please.
You'll have to send me the link for the BCWA list- the only one I know of is the burningvan.org one. Or did you already? Repeat please.
I really enjoyed my desert time and kind of miss it. It's raining and ccccold here. Word on the street is our mountains will have snow that stays by the end of the month (not that I'm complaining- like a good Canadian, I love the snow).
