Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I have to clear out my room, as it is a little cramped for space for such a big hoop! But I'm going to literally hoop my ass off! Um, not that I have one to begin with! Do you know where I can find the tape to decorate the hoops Jella?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I have a hoop too. it is pretty big since I am a rank beginner. lazerfox gave me a smaller one last year at the burn and it is much harder for me to hoop with. Of course I could practice more...
I've seen tape through amazon.

Mine came decorated so I've never bought tape but I bet 420 is spot on as usual and amazon has it. I did a search and came up with some on Etsy too
http://www.etsy.com/search?includes%5B% ... +hoop+tape I love the grip tape layer on mine, it really helps !

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I pulled my childhood hula hoop out of the garage and have started using it, its the standard plastic type with the rattle inside, I can get it to go around me fine but if I try anything at all that changes the tempo it falls past my hips and once it gets past my hips there's no saving it!
Would putting tape on it help with making it more usable for an adult? I would like to learn some standard hoop tricks but its Impossible really hard with the hoop as it is.
Its so much easier to exercise when its fun!
http://www.identi-tape.com/hooptape.html has a bunch of tape in a category called Hoop Tape

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I've been hooping on the Wii... does that count at all?
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
How did the hoop conversation start when I was in the work week from hell?!?!?
On the subject of first hoops bigger is better. But it is also super important to know the material, PSI & width of the tubing. There are many ways to do it wrong or right. Do you remember what your tubing is?
About tape - the cheapest and best option for taping a beginner hoop is using good ol' hockey cloth tape. It won't look pretty for a super long time but it is so cheap you can either re-tape it or just use it to make a new smaller hoop with it by the time you are ready.
L420 I hope you get to use the hoop I gave you more. Practice helps a ton...takes me a while to feel like I've progressed when I change hoops
EDIT to add: tape can also be found on ebay for a pretty cheap price. Just make sure you understand the width and that it is self adhesive.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
(*wonders how silly I would feel trying to hula hoop for the first time in my 60 years*)
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I don't know much about hooping, except that it looks like it's good for the core. So now I am all over the Google . . .
Indeed, apparently it's good for core conditioning and flexibility, but play it cool at first:
. . . daily, for 30 minutes a day for 6 months, developed a perirenal hematoma (internal bleeding/bruising, kidney).
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2633086/
It sounds like something I would do.
Indeed, apparently it's good for core conditioning and flexibility, but play it cool at first:
People with back issues should be cautious, start out slowly and twirl with controlled, sustained rhythm rather, than using vigorous hip action.
http://www.livestrong.com/article/10338 ... hula-hoop/
Like anything, it's apparently possible to overdo it. A young lady who engaged in "violent hula hooping" . . .Using a weighted hula hoop during an exercise routine can serve as an aerobic activity if you sustain the movement for 10 or more minutes, according Dr. Edward R. Laskowski of MayoClinic.com. Marin on the Move says you can burn as many calories hula hooping as walking an eight-minute mile or taking a high-impact aerobics class. http://www.livestrong.com/article/26991 ... hula-hoop/

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Yeah like with any other form of exercise there are a lot of issues that occur if not done properly. I have mild scoliosis so I have to try my best to remember to warm up at the beginning of every practice and also try to move the hoop in both directions (balance!). Otherwise I may develop muscle cramps in my weaker muscle side. I have also heard of "hooper's hip" and it's the same idea: stretch properly and don't push yourself beyond what feels comfortable.

You guys have such commitment! I've been bad these past 2 weeks, and only worked out once. The stress of exams was too much to get me to put the time in. I am making myself go to the gym this afternoon though!

My scale touched 200 today. I won't count it as official until it reads that low for more than a week, but this is the least I have weighed in 7 years.

Must have set some kind of record walking to the Post Office today. Six miles in just shy of two hours.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Looks like I've dropped four more pounds. In December I as averaging around 195, down to 188 this evening.
Nothing like a quick bike ride dodging cars, really annoying that. I might have to light the bike and start doing my rides at o'dark thirty.
There's two good hills near here, I challenged and met one. The other defeated me every time, it's steep and long, even the truck doesn't like it, and that's a 350 with the pedal on the firewall in second kind of deal. The bike has the gears, but the legs don't have the stamina and I don't have the balance for that slow. . .yet.
Ride 'em if ya got 'em!

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
The weather applet I have in iGoogle said it was raining, but when I checked outside (I never believe the thing) it wasn't so off for a short pre-nightshift ride. Decided to challenge the "small hill" and won without resorting to the lowest gear range. Legs were not happy by the time I got to the top, but that is one small battle done, so I will ride longer going in that direction for a bit. When you live on the top of a ridge, home is always uphill . . .

Hail Thor, king of the hill!
I went to my water aerobics class and made it all the way through. First time since before the surgery.

Tore up the hills on my walk tonight. Heard frogs. Had my shirt cling to my back with sweat.

as i picked up all my meds from the pharmacy...high blood pressure, cholesterol, statins, etc. for diabetes II...i weighed in at the gym which is attached to the clinic where my meds were...a bag of meds...a gym that i don't use...realization that if i used the gym i wouldn't need the bag of meds. i swear to dog, on monday...i WILL start at the gym. my public announcement.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Okay, we'll be checking up on the progress ^ (just kidding, maybe...)
Did my walking, then soaked my dawgs in a 5 gallon bucket of ice water, sure helps keep the damned feet from swelling up.
Definately not something I can do at the burn.
5 Gallon bucket of ice water, even 1/2 full would be a no go. Ice cube massages work well out there, brrr. The ice massages = lasting pain relief, seems worth it.

Yes, yes! I just started on Vytorin, doc said six months and then we'll see how I am doing. I plan on getting off it and never going back! Yes!
I should go to the gym more often than once or twice a week. Such a drag taking the bus though. Form of exercise in itself!

I take more drugs now than I did back in the 60's and 70's. But somehow I don't enjoy these new drugs as much. Ahhh... The joys of getting O L D.
