(Detects scent of Makers, filtered around fine (Dominican?) stogie... Lifts trapdoor, and slowly, cautiously meanders toward corner table.)

Ah hah.. what have we here?? I detect Yggie Ambush!... ;)

(Sits down, sniffs whisky, takes a cautious sip, then sets down. Strikes wooden match on side of old stone fireplace, starts to light the fine smoke, and STOPS.)

Strange... it seems like a familiar aura eminating from the bartop...

(... when all of the sudden, she detects faint breeze of a scent in the air, strangely etherial and ghostly... a cross between Gardenias, Playa dust, Frankencense, and... no... it'can't be... Makers??

That's... someone... family... who??? Noooo...

Notices the careful way the oil lamp wicks are trimmed to give off incredible light... a single candle burning in the center of the bar...

TISH!!!! Oh my GAWD it is soo good to sense you were kere, comrade!!! You have been indelibly and sorely, sadly missed!!!!! Ya know, we were looking at property up your way not too long ago... How the HELL are you!!! --muah muah muah!-- It's been WAY too long!

(In an burst of giddy joy at the return of the Bar's Matriarch, leaps over the top of the bar, and stares at the backbar. Brushing off signs, she spies one, on faded yellow paper, that says "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL TISH RETURNS!" Grabs boltcutters from the bunker, and shatters the rusty, corroded lock, revelaing case upon case of Makers... starts setting them up on the bar...)

Time to get... busy!!! Ittttssssss SHOWTIME!!!

ah yes.........well, seems cognac would be ok, maybe?

So, I just had this epiphany, and am not sure where to post it, to get feedback:

I think, if you take into account, the earths rotation, orbital speed, speed of the solar system, speed of our arm of the galaxy, etc, etc, etc (ad infinitum), we are traveling at the speed of light. And this explains why, time is instantaneous, not linear.

THIS is why the original Bar will have an element of Je Ne S'e'quoIt that any of the later ones would never have. Can you see theological discussions over some of the finest alcohol on this planet happening in one of the other bars here? ;)

First, thank you, bb(II) or te gift of amazingly impressive sipping rum... we may have to do a "Havana Nite" at the Kantina to celebrate the correct-thinking people in certain of carib islands...

Sub-first, I think you may be right, Yg, but with a caevat... or two...

#1 - What if you ent the speed of light and accelerated? That means the SOL is not the absolute limit, no more than zero Kelvin i "Absolute zero"... when you talk absolutes, be not surprised when that rule is broken. After all, it was once said humand and animals could not survive travelling in a horseless carriage because it was more than the speed God intended them to go in...

Now for 2 - what if our galaxy is presently spiraling into a black hole - the reason everything seems to be traveling away is we're sinking deeper into this gravity well, 8-)

ah Hi BBS i quite fancy a drop of that over a good discussion, you do know that at the center or every galaxy is a black hole dont you? so we are in a sense falling into a black hole as we speak as is every other planet and galaxy and of course you will have heard about the LHC and its expiremnets to find the higgs bosun, recently they found pariticles arriving at their destination (Geneva I beleive) before they should of, the american hadron collider - called the Tevatron (which is a way cooler name than the LHC) also found evidence of the higgs bosun, and I beleive that particles may have cheated, either by FTL travel or warping, which is effictively FTL but scientists like to maek new rules when they are wrong.

rather nice here isnt it, I like these old bars where they have no juke or tv just good ales and spirits.

*sidles up to bar*

*pours coffee, baileys, and Jameson*

Yeah, BBS, I totally agree that SOL is not necessarily the "upper limit", but just the limit of our skills and comprehension.

I could see it, though, as a "threshold". and, if moving at that speed, time may well stop, or change. and therefrom would come the "all time exists in the same moment"
one might envision, passing the SOL and creating a "shock wave" muck like the speed of sound transition creates, and in that, allowing things to "jump time" as they pass through or past, folds from the shockwave created"

yeah, I remember reading that train travel over 35 mph (IIRC) with the windows open, would create a vacuum in the cars and suffocate passengers.

GD:
y'know, though, there is much historical precedent in there, for a Juke, and ABB. I remember some videos playing, back when I first wandered in here, introduced myself and got soundly ingnored, and then, pounded by a certain few denizens, who have since become friends, or at least were friends for a time.

I'd not say better, or worse........different, for sure.

And, the whole blow up, over the "bar2" and it's inception, and reasoning was just sad, IMHO.
I was very new here, and didn't understand a lot of the personalities and "undercurrent" that existed.

(Eyes pop open to the realization bb fell asleep on the watercouch in the corner, snuggled unnder a corner of the original NEB... scent of coffee and a trace of cologne in the air...)

Ahh, HEY!!! Good Morning Ygmir. Great coffee this morning... (Sees Donut case mysteriously filled with deep fied goodness) HEY, you brought Donuts?

(Pours jamesons into cup of coffee..., wanders over to table next to the raoring fireplace...)

Image

Yeah, I remember when the Playa Marshal came about and put a limit on activity... I think it was a server issue, the page took up to 2-3 minutes to refresh. Part of the good old days that weren't so good. But I also remember the star bar came from those discussions in this place... what a life!

(Sips coffee, eyes container of donuts on the corner of the bar... grabs a (yeech!) fritter, which tastes remarkably good!)

Yeah, it was funny... Talk of doing the ePlaya bar on playa led to the star bar, which came apart for reasons known but not worried about, the members there moved on and became the Boobie Bar, which begat the ePlaya Bar 3... (Was it,,, darn, now I'll have to look over the old bar books, see the whats and whens)... which is where all the kids hang out now! Leaving paradise for us wisened, seasoned ePlayans.

(Throws flat of Bacon on griddle in firebox, thinking how that sounds convoluted, but who cares, eh? As long as the original is still here!)

Image

Now that the server glitch is finally fixed (thanks to the landlords!) the bar runs beter than ever. But yeah, ya look at the camps and projects started here... (glances at the wall of pictures)... The new bar may be glitzy and cool, but this place is the original, and it's where all these new camps (Hell, Terminal City, RIP) sprung from... it's good to be home!

well, the eplaya "Da Bar3" came about, as an attempt and suggestion by one of our favorite eplayans, to dilute the angst and anger over "bar2", which, as you said, had formed merely and simply as an answer to server/hardware problems related to loading all the pages of "The Bar".
Feelings got hurt, egos seemed bruised, loyalties were called into question, and explosions followed.
And really all over the simple act of making it easier to drink, chat, and cavort. The inception of Bar2 was innocently that, and a good idea by the author.
I was dismayed at the personal level just posting in "another bar" insults and emotion drooped to.
I was pretty dang new, and caught in the middle, with friends on both sides.
It was at that time, those "of the body" appeared, singing the "Oscar Meyer Wiener" song, trying to have some fun......DA Mule, showed up, and much fun ensued.
I wish all could and would have played along.

Isn't it nice that the NEB is so never-ending that it can be in both bars at once?

It was a group effort. At one point I read back through the bar thread and found the posts that spelled out its growth, and posted the links on the "index" thread.

Wasn't it... damn... BoxBurner that did the Index? I don't remember.

Too bad I'm pushing my camp with my sigline - I'd put something like "SUPPORT THE ORIGINAL ePlaya BAR" on it.

Ya know... we *could* do an ePlaya bar on playa... Wouldn't be hard... maybe a booze locker anchored to the playa, couple tables and bar stools and shade... People who put booze in the booze locker have a key (or the combo) for it, you want, you bop in, pour yerself and your other casual eplaya buds a drink...

Um, waitaminnit... haven't I said this somewhere before? Damn it sounds... vaugely familiar...

(And if someone comes up with a star tent now, I think I'll either cheer loudly or scream loudly...)

surely the eplayan bar on the playa could be a kind of mobile bar, more sort of a bar that exists whenever 2 (or more) eplayans are gathered in one place, sort of a fixed point in time and space? just a thought.....

Mine - the second one - is sitting on my desk. The original one, from the star bar, got broken, which was a heartbreaker when it happened. God, those were the days!

On one hand I kinda wish I had jumped ship from Apok and went in on the star bar back in ought-six... then again I wouldn't be in Apok now, had I done that. And now that the successor to that is gone as well (tho don''t tell them they were the successor to the ePlaya bar, they'll deny it!) who knows what will happen.

IMO the time is ripe to bring back the ePlaya bar... IF... someone can pull it all together.

yeah, an eplaya bar.......it was a great idea, and could be, again.

BDC's meetngreet is sort of a "one day" thing like that....so dang fun.
but it'd take a camp, to pull off an every day bar, and such.

I knew (know) one person who could do it......but he won't come play any more......

I can help with materials and logistics but, I work so much, there is not much time for running a bar, for me.
