I went over to my moms tonight to take my mind of the crap that went on today. I sewed two pairs of shorts and tried to make a pair of harem pants but I kept sewing it backwards on the bottom cuffs ( did it 2 times) so I gave up for the night and came back home. I have to finish those, my jacket and a jumper. Need to do something with my old military camelbak at somepoint. It is ugly.

tent cot version two. wider, longer, and also folds into a lounge chair. packs flat instead of tubular like a tent. set up, it's the one in the top right. zips up tight, no exposed mesh when closed up. found a liquidator site, might need a little mending, but the price was right.

vs. version one from last year.

I wanted to take up playing an instrument again, so this year I've made it my goal to be able to play this little guy in front of others on the playa this year:

So I've been practicing every day, and am definitely learning the tabs for this song.

If you can get over the EWW factor. . . empty snuff cans, the metal ones, make a good ash catcher, the lids are pretty snug. Just need to keep an eye out for dippers, and ask for their empties. I used to have a drawer full of them for sorting small bits, parts and hardware. *I* don't use the stuff but I work with a lot of smokers in a tobacco free workplace (the whole property, no running outside for a quick smoke) so most of them get their nicfix from dip. You can add a leash to the lid to prevent it wandering, strip of fabric and a dab of hot glue or shoe goo.

Oh, and I saw this tonight on my wanderings in Maul Mart. Flipped a few of them around so folks could see the patterns. This isn't the fancy duct tape, it's cellophane packing tape.

Yes, very nice belt. Are you planning to wear it over your shoulder or as a belt? If you plan to wear it around your waist you might want to pad it or widen the belt portion to distribute the weight a bit more.

Load that belt & wear for a 2-mile walk in your playa boots, that will tell you a lot right there!

I'm actually thinking fiber optics in the collar and cuffs.

Also, gotta come up with a good rendition of 'White Sandy Beach.' Except mine will be called 'White Dusty Playa' and not nearly as well played. :D

Yes! And ride a bike in it, see if anything jounces and smacks your legs in an annoying way.

Actually, almost any costume/clothing item needs to pass the bike test. You see guys doing face plants all the time because they don't know how to ride a bike in a skirt.

So we should all put on our best playa skirts and ride around the neighborhood? That might be the final straw with my neighbors.

Luckily my skirt is too short to to get tangled in anything.

Haaah, my man asked me, isn't it weird that all the dudes are biking around in all this flowy, skirty stuff and the girls aren't. And I was like, duh, that's cause dudes don't know that riding a bike in a skirt is dumb.

This is what I do when biking in a long skirt (flowy, ankle-length stuff is actually my default playa wear): pull it way up and to the side, and tie it into a Rosette @ mid-thigh or slightly higher like a 1920's bathing costume. Tuck in the loose end. Note: one's underwear may peek while riding, and should be on the nice side, if you're modest enough to wear any. When you arrive at your destination, flip open the rose and let the fabric cascade down. Then spin around like Martha Graham. Just do it. Don't ask why. (It ruins it.)

I need to get around to making a neat custom garter belt this year though. Something with some massive @#$% skirt clips.

Agreed . . . the bike test is definitely a must with any playa belt bag, messenger bag, etc. I have a messenger bag I love, but it is not a pro-bag (meant for real messengers), and is better either worn at night, when I don't bike--or filled only halfway, and tightened up in an annoying fashion, before biking. So the backpack and hip bag is my favorite choice for day. The camera goes in the hip bag, for fast access.

When I lived in Virginia Beach I work long skirts all the time. I used to take a fat rubber band and make a pony tail on one side about mid thigh and then loop it. kinda the rose thing. It works really well. I just got my bike out of storage today cause it is going to be in the 70's for the rest of the week. I really need to see how hard it is going to be to bike in my playa boots. Those suckers are tall!

I have noticed I get choked out if i ride with my messanger bag. ( I just rode 2 miles with it on a bit ago) I have big boobs and cant put it under them. But I think the belt will be ok. I will try it out when I go on my bike ride tomm.
