How Many Posts.....?

I am approaching the 500 post mark on this forum and I started thinking; At what point do you have enough posts to be considered a veteran of eplaya? 50? 100? 1000? I look at some of the larger post numbers (Cryptofish, Ygmir, AntiM, Gyre, Ugly Dougly, Jkisha, Simon) and they are definitely held in high esteem by this board. And well they should be. So I ask you all; What's the number? When do you crack the newbie ranks and become a grizzled vet?

high esteem on eplaya is directly proportional to how many people have met you in real life at the burn (or elsewhere) and found out that the shit you say is just shit and you are actually a "nice person" in real life.

post count doesnt come into it.

If you look at the spread, 500 is up there. Many people post once, if at all. I recognize your name and avatar and I don't shrink when I see them. I'm not sure what more is possible.

dont forget the realm where in some heated arguments people start pulling out the 'YOU POST TOO MUCH' thing!

so clearly, for some people ... esteem based on post count becomes tempered by 'too much'

its the goldiloxcks paradox..

I don't think it's a quantity of posts that make you a "veteran" here, it's quality. Are you adding knowledge, humor, dead-on snark... something...? I think meeting people on-playa helps us connect further, but I don't think that makes you a veteran either (I started posting on here in '03, I finally made the Meet & Greet in 2010. I think I only met a dozen or so posters in those 7 years)

There are members with under 100 posts who I look forward to read, others... not so much.

yup, I agree:
Quality, not quantity.
There are high count posters here (and to some, I may well be one), who make me cringe when I see them post.
Sure, it takes at least dozens, to get a "feel" for a persona, but, by low hundreds, it's usually pretty dang clear.
And, to be fair, some folks do change and stuff.......some I have completely changed my opinion of, over time.

What matters is that you participate, and in the process hopefully contribute something worthwhile - be it help or humor, I find everything other than whineyness and blame placing has some value. Just my opinion on this.

Looking back as I approach the 1k post mark, I find that many of my posts could probably have been better. Hopefully my posts that add useful things to these boards outweigh those that don't.

I asked admin to remove or reset my post count a couple of times, but turns out that isn't easy on this forum.

I was on here many years before I posted more than once a year or so.

No, I agree that quality should matter more than quantity. I was not trying to say that the most prolific posters have the best insights. But I think they definitely care very much about what is said on these boards, and try very hard to help folks if they can. I appreciate that very much.

Solve for E:

(n/e)(B/y)=E

Start with number of posts. (n)
Divide by years you have been on eplaya. (e)
Multiply by the number of times you have been to BRC. (B)
Divide that by the last two digits of the first year you went (y)

The result gives you E, your Eplaya rank. Wear this number proudly, and if you find any way in which it means something, let me know.

As of this post, my eplaya rank is 20.58901515151 repeating.
