Any BRC releated virals?

I have recently come down with a viral something or the other. My doctor is doing up the blood work and has notified the CDC because I was in Scottsdale just before and right after the burn. My symptoms have been very close to West Nile and Sepsis. So, I was wondering if there are any known bug-a-boos in the Black Rock Desert?

I haven't heard of any from anyone in my camp. I got sick almost immediately upon returning home, but it was just a little 36hr thing ... feeling great now. You need mosquitoes for West Nile and I kinda doubt any live at BRC. I didn't get any skeeter bites.

For the first time in my years on the playa I was hit a lot of time by mosquitoes. Bif=g fucking mosquitoes.

Still, my inclination is that whatever malady you have or might have probably isn't related to to bugs or bites on the playa. the place is damn near devoid of any insect, animal or floral activity.

The Scottsdale connection may be related to a malady which according to CDC is on the rise - especially in western states. Republicansis megassholitis is one of the more cruel, episodic infections that has become a scourge here in the last few months. Take caution. Be aware. Hope this isn't the diagnosis though there is a cure.

Full disclosure, this was my first burn. I did my best not to swallow dust but... I came back with a sore throat which started thursday night and got worse when I returned to s.f. Within a week I had a wicked ear infection (so painful, I couldn't sleep for three days), lesions on the back of my throat and just a nasty ENT viral infection. Went to the doctor and they he did not give me antibiotics because he said it was virus and not bacteria and therefore wouldn't respond to antibiotics. It has now been two weeks since the first onset of symptoms, and I am FINALLY returning to normal. I was freaking out last week but since symptoms have subsided I figure it coudn't have been that serious.

Badger was right about those mosquitoes--we had them this year and they were nasty. Several people showed up at the 9:00 med station with bites, much more swollen than your typical 'skeeter.

I did get bitten a couple of times by some kind of flying beetle thing. It was painful, not like a normal mosquito bite. More like a biting fly seen back east. Didn't see any skeeters but it was obvious that there was water nearby becuse I did see drangonflys several times. Maybe the lack of any light in our camp at night was causing them to be drawn elsewhere.

I like dragonflys. They tell me if sketters are near. One come up to me and held it's position near my head. Bout that time I was bitten on the back of my arm. Maybe the dragonfly was waiting on the sketter to show him where the egges were.

People get real sick (long term sick) from not washing there hands.
