Cheers!

Post by Joshua! » Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:38 am

Greetings all! I'm Joshua!

Live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, and I'll be returning to the burn this year after a 7 year hiatus. I started dreaming of re-attending in December, and for some unexplainable reason, I know that this is going to be my best year yet. I've camped with Gigsville in the past, and will probably do so again.

Can't wait to see you in the dust!
Joshua!

<edited to add:> My project this year is a 4 seat pedal contraption that I'll be using as a taxi service. I'm hoping someone around here can give me a little advice about bicycle transmission of power... Thanks!

Welcome to ePlaya and welcome back to the event! Check out the preparation boards (in particular the one for Transportation) for threads and discussion about bikes and other transportation-related issues), good luck getting the project together!

Welcome to ePlaya! For starters, you need to set aside the first weekend in October to participate in the Port Townsend Kinetic Sculpture Race.

But... a four-seat pedal taxi on the Playa? That sounds kind'a far-fetched.

Thanks for the warm welcome all! I intend to ask many questions here, and hopefully contribute my little bit.

@Elliot - I've been a <gasp> spectator at the Port Townsend "Race" for a few years now. I've drawn much inspiration from those wacky folks. Nice set of photos too. Puts my little project to shame. Shame!

Well, yes, that's your problem right there: "...spectator...". I try not to do that.

You are looking at a Great Moment Of Triumph from a few years ago. We actually made it thru the Dismal Bog that time! All Wheel Drive is the way to go in KSR.

I'm beginning to think I ought to write up a "Pedal-Vehicles 101". Meanwhile, we can try to tackle a question or two here.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hi Joshua!

You might enjoy browsing the Transportation forum:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=286

If you do any non-human-power modifications to your contraption, you'll probably need to check out the DMV:

Welcome to the board. :)
