Car/train/flight ULTIMATE Playlist?
I need to build a 40 hour playlist and some others to have said they need to make a playlist-
SO, What would you put on a good play list ( stuff NOT to fall asleep to)

For what it's worth, my tastes run a little old and mellow. But every road trip playlist begins with Simon & Garfunkel. "America" as the first song on the way out, "Homeward Bound" on the way home.
You're going by train right? Add "City of New Orleans" to that list.
Also, Tom Petty "Time to move on"

I agree, although I'm no fan of S&G this is the ideal song for departure. In my case I use the version by Yes though.VultureChow wrote:tattoogoddess wrote:I need to build a 40 hour playlist and some others to have said they need to make a playlist-

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

One of my favorite music groups is Enigma. And they have radio, DJ and Adult versions of their many best songs.
The Soundtrack from "Sucker Punch", "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Queen of the Damned" are also on my road list.
But then I mix those with everything Pink Floyd, BB King, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Boz Scaggs, Duane Allman and The Who ever did.

If you get their Platinum Collection, it has 3 CDs of almost everything they've done.tattoogoddess wrote:Oh i LOVE enigma!!:)

You don't need anything for the flight/ride back. The engine noise will turn into electronic dance music. I'm not kidding. This went on for close to 48 hours for me.
If you don't want to listen to electronic music on the ride back, then you might check out Secret Chiefs 3.

We listen to a lot of radio driving long hours in the semi ... seems like every trip we repeatedly hear White Winged Dove by Stevie Nicks (just strange). KOZZ radio out of Reno always seems to be playing The Doors LA Woman .... perfect. An ode to BRC if I ever heard one.

Megadeth's "Killing is my Business" album is cool on the plane. I used to start from the beginning, just as the plane taxied onto the runway.

Re: Car/train/flight ULTIMATE Playlist?
I have to hear "Under the Milky Way Tonight" by The Church every year, after I pass through Cedarville, sometime before midnight. (I don't know why, man--I don't make the rules.
) I add stuff to a Burn playlist all year and then strip it down and customize it depending on who I'm riding with. I like to surprise/entertain/delight my co-pilot at least half the time 1) because it's fun, and 2) so that they won't get too cross during my flights of fancy and fling my iPod into the Klamath river. If I drive myself this year, the music will be slightly mellower than it would be otherwise so that I don't speed (unlikely to happen) or drive off the road (of medium likelihood). If I have company, the gamut will be run.
Right now I have 152 songs. I have a tendency to grab several per album. Prominent right now:
Anthology Through the Years - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Absolute Garbage - Garbage
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
Best of Bill Withers
Blue Lines - Massive Attack
Carnivalé (soundtrack) - Jeff Beal
The Essential Clash
The Brit Box: UK Indie, Shoegaze & Britpop Gems
The British Beat: Best of the 60's
Beggars Banquet - Rolling Stones
Contraband - Velvet Revolver
I Told You I Was Freaky - Flight of the Conchords
Icon 2 - Rob Zombie
The Fame - Lady Gaga
Soundtracks - Kill Bill 1&2, Pulp Fiction, Pirate Radio, The Sopranos, Swingers, Take the Lead, True Blood, Donnie Darko
Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
Midival Times - Midival Punditz
Purple - Stone Temple Pilots
And there will be some of "The Lonely Island" on there. Dance, trance, industrial, funk, hip hop, goth, pop; a little of everything.
I like to use the online hold at my local library to pick up CDs and drop 'em to iTunes. If I can't think of what I want, I drop into the library in person and hit the CD soundtracks first.

Klamath river you say.... Muwahaaaaaaaaaa. Muuuuwwwwaaaaaahhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... cough.
Right now I'm a big fan of Jenna Marbles- Bounce That Dick. That may be a new turn on to the playa access road song.
A little Mindless Self Indulgence- Shut Me Up is going a long ways these days. For some reason I can't stop watching Rammestein concert you tubes. Probably will add some of their songs to the phone for those long uphill climbs or whenever it can be rationally spliced in(or slipped in under the radar)with all the other awesome music going on.
