Gas masks: Awesome or Annoying?

...the playa dust wrecks my cuticles no matter how much I moisturize... it just seems to happen within a matter of an hour or so, even if I'm just handling my playa gear at home during some other time of the year.

For years I've worn Latex or Nitrile (latex free) gloves, especially when setting up camp or maintaining camp, but even when biking around the playa, and I take about 3 extra sets as they do rip. Having sunscreen on my hands only decreases the life of the gloves a little.

They fill up with sweat sometimes. So what? Working hard with rope, cables, wood, and they only last 5-15 minutes....so what?

You can find 40 pairs of them for $4 to $8 if you look around.

I take a several boxes each of S, M, L and most people "get it" right away.

For mooping that piece of glitter out of the crust, even people with tolerance to playa on their hands find the gloves incredible and they will moop MUCH longer. It actually becomes fun to dig out that piece of rice in the dust.

I give out hundreds when I see dedicated moopers (not the "walk normal speed and glance 180degrees left to right dweebs who miss the small stuff)

50%vinegar + 50%water is a good rinse for your hands and feet. Lemon juice...I'm told... also works..but doesn't have that lovely vinegar smell.

petroleum jelly and potassium chlorate makes a good facial rub.

If you use Vasoline, or any petroleum product for that matter, do not smoke in vicinity of a rubber mask. Use K-Y if using a nasal O2 cannula, or wearing latex, or welding, or...whatever. There is a reason Navy divers use spit on their masks, besides being good for anti-fogging, or lubrication.
