I'm usually scraping for t-shirts and bandannas now, but unless the HFWA gets a design, it isn't happening. I'm uninspired.
I get batches of shopping bags and small bags from OT.

Was thinking about getting a double ended clip, clipping the tent hole then clipping it to that loop chain. I still need to buy my tent on monday so if the post holes are big enough i might be able to put put the screw through the hole.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I use four of those on the guy ropes for my rain fly. I just slapped a hardware store steel carabiner on the ring and put the loop of guy rope on the carabiner. Carabiners stay on the stakes when packing out. They stick up a bit because of the handle, but a little light and some neon pink flagging tape keeps people off them.tattoogoddess wrote:It is one of these guys-Savannah wrote:Sounds cool. I'm interested to know that too. I think some have used the spiral stakes, but I don't remember how they fare.lucky420 wrote:was it hard to screw them into the playa?

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I used them in rocky ground, fields, wooded areas, but not playa. I would suppose if you can shovel it, beat rebar into it, and it's not asphalt you can get them in. If you're on sand then you'd need sand stakes, and I don't camp on beaches. If the ground is loose, I just keep screwing them in until only the handle is accessible and slip the guy rope over that, or use the carabiner. Chances are the rope is going to tear off the tent before the stake comes out. Remember, I have not yet been to BRC, I only have thirty some odd years of camping to work with. If my spiral stakes don't work next year, I have other things that will, or I will just have to get creative.Savannah wrote:I'm interested to know that too. As an afterthought, I recon if you had hair ties and spare LED glowsticks you could easily light those stakes up.
My tent's not easily accessible, however, a sharpie is:

It's the intermittent softness (and cracks in the surface) that made me worry about spiral stakes, and periodic reviews like this:Thorormr wrote:I used them in rocky ground, fields, wooded areas, but not playa. But there's a thread here that suggests some people do well with them:DoctorIknow wrote:I tried those heavy duty dog line ancors, spiral, about 3" diameter, about 15" long, and they would only break up the playa,,,no grip at all.
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=4387
I note that people say the longer ones work better. (I see that TG's are 18"; that's fortunate.) So I'm guessing if one doesn't break up the ground too messily when putting 'em in, one will have some playa left to grip the stake.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Depending on the weather/playa conditions, what you'll get is around 6-8 inches (or at worst maybe 12) of dry, cracked, crumbly ground. Beneath that, you reach into hellaciously packed damp clay (one year it was even wet and gooey). Someone who camped in our group one year used the screw-in things one year, everything held but there was some bending involved. No idea whether what he had was any good or not, but it's not something I'd use.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Had a total knee jerk reaction to this. I don't need it, but maybe it will go into the pockets rotation. It needs some decoration. It has a big pocket on the back for "game"... blood proof even...

REALLY COOL! I will have to try something like this.PurplMyst wrote:Congrats to all the new ticket holders!! Or confirmation number holders anyway... Still, very exciting!!
Today I finally finished my experimental glow pouches. In previous years I've done mini-backpacks, small satchels, and belt pouches to tote around all my "necessary" crap & none of those was really the ideal solution. The backpack & satchel straps rubbed too much on my shoulders (scraping off sunscreen), and the belt pouches always ended up to big & bulky making my belt all lopsided. So this year I'm trying out a series of smaller belt pouches! Here's the picture of my first 2. The smaller one can hold smokes+lighter+ash tin, and the other is roomy enough for most of my other essentials (minus snacks & water) plus a loop on the side for clippin stuff. And the "yellow" vinyl these are both made out of glows in the dark a bright green.![]()
and that model there is Jimmy who looooves the smell of Playa dust.
I also took delivery of a really cool string of purple UV LED ribbon lights. I think it'll be the perfect accent for my fuzzy purple coat with glow-star lining...

Worked my butt of for tips last night at the pub. Im reward I bought my self a tent! 8'x8'x54" 4 person for $20. Man I love this new discount store in town! Was $71 or lowest I have found is $39. Not a bad deal. ( mine is red) Now I just have to set it up, find the mess and glue glue glue!

Hmmm, maybe using this as a pattern and making the back more air-circulating...got a link for this image Elorrum? Got back to work on my utility belt today. Been so long I had to search for hours to find the patterns I made.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Presuming that by Mess you mean Mesh (so unhip of me not to know....), I'd say don't panic. Plop a sheet over the tent before you put the fly on and tape (or pin, or velcro, etc.) it down. Done.
Or..... Fuckit. LOVE the dust. There's no fighting it anyhow.
I think I had the same tent last year and we were fine. Dusty but fine.

last year was really clean. Cover the mesh or put your sleeping bag in a plastic bag every morning. If you have a cot, tip it on it's side in the morning.

Actually if this IS the same tent, a double air mattress sits perfectly on its side straight up and down the middle -- creating two so-tiny-as-to-be-useless "rooms".... (aren't you glad to know that???)

Working on lighting effects with some of the cardboard tubes we got. Posting a photo of one I made for Coachella...not quite finished, but we are thinking of building a fence with our theme camp name in lights on each side of the entrance. The one in the photo for Coachella has a small 6 light solar string in it and it is not very bright but still can be seen pretty clear but we have some battery operated led's that are brighter. Just sort of playing around with it to figure out what works best.

washing/drying 100 scarves today. Removing small tags from them too. Reducing moop potential. Each one of these things were in their own individual little plastic bags.
Reminder folks, remove your stuff from it's packing at home. Less garbage to deal with and much less moop potential.

That's how we do it, although we use crappy pressed felt blankets and spring clamps. Works like a champ, and you don't alter the tent permanently.delle wrote:tattoogoddess wrote:OMG!!! Got out the hand pump misters I put together for Coachella last year and never used (since they made us pour out our 55 gallons of water!!!!) and tested them all. All 4 sets still work....Yay! Mist at hot Coachella this year and mist on the playa in August:-)

Re: One Item for BM a Day
We've been making good progress. Camp plans finalized, truck booked, and necessary accounting done so I could lock down our dues/fees for campmates (hooray for being able to stick within the planned goal). Last week we pulled together a build for Eridu Society at Burn2 (the virtual world Burning Man regional group), and had a campsite with gifts for their April fools weekend event, and on Sunday had an informal camp meeting. Also put two and two together to realize I could use the roll of white yeti fur we've got up on the rack to make 'cloud pillows' for the Lofty Thoughts Lounge. I also signed up for a workshop on rubber stamp making with the laser cutter at tech shop. Going through some bins I also realized that all the stencils I made for last year have gone missing, so I've started a list on stuff I'll need to re-make (as well as new stuff to do). We did a test run of some custom designed fabric through Spoonflower for bacon scarves - while I'm not entirely happy with the design we sent them it translated onto the fabric well and was a good learning experience. I'm stress-testing the first bacon scarf over the next couple days to see how it holds up, and Pandorra will figure out which direction she wants to go from there. We also got the first plush deli items made.
