Hotel Thread......

Post by Rabbi Dali Rick » Mon Sep 13, 2004 9:01 am

I just wanted to say that the Golden Phenoix are the greatest. They have a burner special $20 a night flat rate. The beds were awesome, the whole fucking floor was none smoking {YIPPPEE!!!!}, the view was spectacular. Others said that parking was a bitch, but we pulled up to where someone had pulled away after a dropoff, the valet, looking at the car and all the dusty shit packed on the roof, asked if we checking in we said yes and he took our keys and told us to leave it there he would take care of it. Bada Bing Bada Boom. Inside of 10 minutes we had keys and I was in the first luxurious moments of an hour long hot shower. The place was rocking there were burners everywhere, all glowing, fresh from the playa. Next year, I want to plan a better theme camp and probably have about 10 people help. So to keep the cars down we will rondevous at the hotel before burning man probably Fri or Sat and get a little city night life in before subjecting myself to the rigors of the desert. After all at $20 a night for the room and super cheap food prices, it's a great start to a great adventure. Another plus is to bond with your campmates before the event and get everybody on the same page.

Just thought I'd share. Anybody else have any good/horror stories from this year? Any advice for next year? What worked what didn't? Hotel/Motel recommendations?

Oh yeah, next year advanced resevations.

inlightingly,
the rebbi

We stayed at the Sands on the Sunday night before BM. I mentioned an internet special I saw where the room is $26 and you get a $10 credit on the casino if you book ahead of time. I didn't book and they gave it to me for $29. I won $55 in their casino. It was a nice place to stay and I was happy it was so cheap. They had security all over the parking lot to keep an eye on vehicles- they seriously checked out my boyfriend when he went to get something out of the truck and even went over to the truck after he was there to make sure he didn't do something to it.

Bad experience at the Atlantis. We were there the day before the man burned--had to leave early for health. Had no idea that there were BM specials, we might have started for the Phoenix instead. IN addition to the overpriced food and the lack of bathroom signs ont he casino floor (urgent need) they charged us a dollar for a phone call we never made. STill waiting for the check. I won't be going back.

actually, i stayed at the atlantis 4 years in a row on both ends of the trip and never had any issues with them. they've even gone so far as to ask me upon post-playa check ins if i would be needing additional towels to 'clean up' my things. their breakfast buffet is good, we still go there every year.

the only reason i switched hotels was to try the cheesy adventure inn down the street a tick. they have fun theme rooms (yes, we rented the space suite after this year's event) and there's a hot tub in evey room -- which your skin will love you for. but... it's not cheap!

however, playa dust blessings to the golden phoenix. we ended up leaving 1 day earlier than planned (hoped to stay and help with exodus this year) and stayed in a great room for very little money. it was really nice to see so many burners. i hope they intend to continue this discount after their renovations are complete. i would suggest they publish the reservation code soon, i bet they could sell out. parking was not easy, but if you as around you find it's ok to park at nearby casino lots because they expect folks to park and walk to other casinos. they don't love it, but they expect it. so i parked at the sands with no issues at all.

ps. there's also free porn at the adventure inn

We stayed at the Siena for one night before and two nights after. The rooms were $65/night reserved online, but coming from an area where you pay $80 for a Motel 6 it didn't seem like a bad price. The high points for me were the free 802.11 internet access and the down comforters and deluxe pillows - definately above average. The bathroom and rooms were pretty much average for a mid-price hotel.

The casino was nothing to get excited about. A lot of video poker, but none of the favorable pay schedules that video poker players prefer. I only spent a couple of hours playing, and most of that was at Cal-Neva rather than at the Siena.

We ate at one of the downtown buffets on Monday night, and then read a post here on e-playa about the Pneumatic Cafe and had a great dinner and breakfast there before leaving Wednesday morning. The Pneumatic is definately the best food we had the whole trip.

I hadn't been to Reno in over 15 years, and I thought that I wanted to be down near the arch, the bright lights, and the action, but downtown Reno seems to be dying. Next time I'll probably try a room at John Acsuaga's Nugget in Sparks, unless some of the other hotels add broadband internet access before next year.
