Sure. Bovril and tequila. This is a good combo.

I've been off the forum for awhile, probably since the whole ticket fiasco circlejerking started. But, I came strictly for this thread. I don't remember if I said what I was doing for this years Meet & Greet or not, but I'm wondering what people may want me to bring. I know that ice is always a necessity, but I'm yearning for something a little more special; I can bring ice too. I live in Southern California and was wondering if we have access to any foods/alcohols that eplayans from other parts of the country/world have always wanted to taste or try. In the particular town I live in, strawberrys are very huge. The only problem would be keeping them "fresh". I have considered bringing them frozen and then make margaritas (I'll bring the blender of course). That would knock out both a need for ice, alcohol, and most people's general love of sweet sweet strawberries. But like I said, I'm up for suggestions.

strawberry margaritas would be fantastico. I usually bring an extra bottle of tequila so I'll remember to grab a bottle of strawberry mix.

I think the lime margarita mix goes better with a frozen strawberry margarita. The artificial "strawberry" flavoring in the strawberry mix ruins the deliciousness of the strawberries.

I just had something called a Rattlesnake. It includes absinthe and maple syrup.

I'm sticking with the paper cake...

Just another random (drrunken) thought, but I still haven't been able to find any info about a 'Barbian' (sp) called "goddess"
If somebody can get ahold of her, and if she still has my Sierra Nevada growler I'll fill it at the brewery with the flavor of the week.
I'm within a few minutes of the brewery and they always have all kinds of wonderful beers there that you can't get anywhere else.

We were discussing that stuff at dinner last night and supposedly their Double Espresso is really good. They make a caramel flavored one too.

The Oxnard Strawberries...as big as apples and the best in the world!! They're farmed on topsoil washed in from the ocean over the ages of time. That topsoil is 100's of feet deep, too bad they're covering it with condos. Ah progress, or maybe the recession has slowed this condo v farming problem a bit?

You would have to bring them frozen in dry ice cpart...be aware ice chests can split from exposure to dry ice. If you attempt this, maybe use a metal box? Be sure to set the dry iced containter on 2x4s to keep the playa from defrosting the berries. Should be interesting and maybe we'll need a gasoline engine powered blender if frozen rock hard from the dry ice. Maybe mush and freeze them in baggies? Afterall it the flavor that matters most. :P I miss those berries!!

No, it hasn't slowed the destruction of our farmlands at all. There are always new signs for new housing communities. It's sad.

If I do use dry ice, I will definitely use an ice pick to make the chunks smaller and then wrap those in smaller sized packets of newspaper. I also have a cooler that I wouldn't be upset if it cracked for the sake of the margaritas. If the dry ice does have them diamond hard, I'll just put them in the regular cooler, or even just take them out a few hours before the M&G. It definitely won't be a problem.

Judging by the responses, I'm bringing margaritas and Van Gogh Vodka (I have a bevmo directly across the street from my house, which has an assortment of Van Gogh flavors).

Here's to hoping that I don't drink it all by Thursday (if we have it the same day).

TnT: My friend's sis does molecular gastronomy, and I was at a party recently where she provided gelatinized gin-and-tonics (and something else, can't remember) that were much more true-to-taste and boozy than traditional jello shots, plus firmer (*snicker*). Even the fizz was somehow still preserved. I remember her explaining her tecnnique/recipe to me, and I remember thinking it was very straightforward. If you're interested, I can contact her and get the info.

thanks CITFH! I've done these before, just not with this particular 160 proof liquor. I'm going to make it taste just like my shooters and simply need to find the point of optimal results.

I have a friend who creates Mai Thai's, Margarita's, Gin n Tonic's, etc with various jello molds and colors. I'm more of a utilitarian and prefer efficient infusion of alcohol via the least effort and greatest pleasure possible. In other words, just swallow one of these and let the party begin!

@FF, I could go with the Spanish 170 proof BLACK absinthe for the true NUCLEAR OPTION,,, but it is very black licorice tasting with low wormwood content. It'll make your hair stand up, but it won't curl your toes like the German stuff does.

So Fishy???? When I suck one of these rascals out of your cleavage, what part of your anatomy might curl?

I just tried one, and at 3:5 ratio, it has the louche appearance, but is a bit weak. So I'll make another batch that is 1:1 absinthe and water and see how that does. Research, research, research.

YAY! The Green Faerie lives! I just tried the 1:1 jello shooter and it did indeed make my hair stand on end and my toes curl! They are a beautiful white and BONUS! It sticks to the lid of the 1 ounce cup and pulls clean out of the cup to leave the luscious creamy goodness wiggling for consumption!

I'll prepare an entire bottle's worth (36) of jello shooters of my top-shelf absinthe. They simply beg for a cleavage to cradle them prior to consumption!
