This isn't an ad, this is a thread for Saul and a reminder that he's putting out some new work very soon. The award winning SLAM poet, writer, musician, actor/director, artist. shaman, etc. He's starting to dabble in music now and this is his second album. Obviously you two haven't been exposed to this man, his message, his style.

Saul is leading a spiritual revolution through his art, which just happens to be very diversified in mediums.

Nowhere did I say you had to buy his album, just find someone who will :-p, or get kazaa or itunes or somethin. Also maybe check out one of his books at a library.

Peace

now you are advocating a blatant copyright violation. A crime. That's two strikes on the ol' TOS for you. I don't care how super wonder hippy this guy is. An ad is an ad.

Yep. Please stop.

The 'shaman' part is articularly nauseating. Right up there with folks who call themselves 'artists.' It suggests they have a gift of something that the rest of us don't have. Well, at least he doesn't have any of my money.

ok I've been asked to review this to see if it violates the TOS. I don't believe that sharing articles/reviews really constitutes an ad, but want more of your thoughts.

I get the impression that folks are reacting more to the aesthetic of the artist, which is clearly not everyone's cup o' tea. What do you think?

Let this be your litmus test - if this were about the Ramones, would you have the same objections?

I wouldn't know Saul Williams from Karl Marx. The Ramones, on the other hand, were gods to me. However, I thought it was pretty obvious Lysergic had no evil intentions - which is why I said, "Please" ;) I like to think I would have gotten just as smarmy if it were about the Ramones.

I don't know, it reads like one of those personal testimonials for the thighmaster. The question is, is it one of those slick new advertising ploys advertisers are trying out these days. Get on all the BBSs, chatboards, yahoo groups and chatting up the product.

However it is Lysergic, and she's no newbie has been around for a while and kinda knows the group. We have had (one including myself with the "Hotel Thread") a few situations where considering the ethicality of the matter, there was an uncertain grey area there......... hmmmm,

Jury what do you say?

"We demand a truth naturally at one with the land / Not a plant that photosynthesizes bombs on demand / Or a search for any weapons we let fall from our hands / I got beats and a plan / I'm gonna do what I can." -Saul Williams

This was not meant to be an advertisement in the traditional sense, but rather like a notification and celebration of new work from the Poet Saul Williams and some collaborators like Rage Against the Machine . He doesn't want your money, he just wants to be heard.

I first realized his vision through the movie SLAM, since then have read a couple of his poetry books, and have been lucky enough to see him Live twice, both were a slam poetry session. Both were very informing and inspiring, much like most of his work & ways.

In fact he made his entire new album with 12 tracks FREE TO DOWNLOAD, with the written lyrics to boot! All you have to do is open your mind and ears and head to

When I saw the title of the thread I said "ad". Whether or not Saul wants my money, SOMEONE is going to want it for the priviledge of owning it. Thus in all repsect, I must say "ad."

Geodesic domes, teepees and duct tape.

DING!

SURVEY SAYS: things that have some kind of relevance to BurningMan(tm). I just don't see how Karl, or whatever his/her name was, relates.

Yeah, I know it's important to you. I could go on and on about Jimi freakin' Hendrix but I realize you don't give a shit. And I don't feel the need to change - excuse me, open - your (or anyone else's) mind. Not in musical tastes, anyway.

Saul Williams is a word artist which I hope still has a lot to do with the playa. This to me is no ad. I am excited and had no idea he was putting out a new album and feel fortunate someone posted the info. Thank you for the heads up

Huh? I love Hendrix! Funny thing is Saul Williams does too and references a lot in his poetry and songs.

I don't see a problem with chatting about musicians, dead or not. The fact is Saul's message corresponds with current issues, with a very political overtone about the war and injustices, very eye-opening in general...which is what I'm trying to express to others on this forum, not change anyone's mind on musical tastes or genres. I'm not here to debate Saul with you, but rather this thread constitutes an ad per se.

Cause even talking about Hendrix or Ramones or listing different albums or songs could be considered advertising and objectionable. What's everyone's favorite album thread would have to be censored, and who wants that kind of Gestapo lifestyle? Especially on a virtual forum dedicated to Burning Man, which represents free expression & art in all its odd crazy forms.

BTW I noticed huge signs that were advertising goods at BM, and I also noticed flocks of dead people lined up to purchase said goods. Then I realized where I was, center camp. I can understand the purchasing of 1 thing there, ICE. It's just the process of freezing water which is kinda expensive and hard to come by in the desert. And shit happens with 35k people, someone's gonna need ice to survive the week, but no a fucking Iced Chai!

Could maybe the fine line be that you started a thread about the album rather than posting in a generic or a music thread. Maybe? Shit I don't know hell as far as I'm concerned we're all just a bunch of monkeys making noise and sniffing each others asses. Hope this helps.

Lysergic, you're a Guy? That changes my mental LBD image of you considerably.

Personally I rather have a thread about Lysergic and what you did today, yesterday, tommorrow, while dreaming, thinking, whishing, hoping, wanting, missing, feeling. Saul is ok but I can find out all I need to about him just type his name in google, but Lysergic..... Now there's a different animal, one that warrents getting to know and appreciate. Remember you Lysergic are one of our most endangered species, there's only one of you.

J/K, well as far as me goes, you'll have to find that out next year at the meet & greet when I actually show up, unlike this last time. It'll be my second time and I'll bring a damn bike this time!

New thread
"I am really sad Jimmy is dead. Anyone wanna form an all Hendrix all the time camp for '05?"
New thread
"Hey! They just released a new remastered Hendrix box set. I suggest you go check it out!"

This didnt feel like an ad to me at all. also this is the 'general discussion' forum.

he recomended some music. I have heard the music and it fucking rocks and has a VERY positive message. I think people are being a bit too uptight on this issue.

relax. Its music. its 'general discussion'. If this was in the 'nature of burning man' secion I could see how it might bother some.

my 2 cents.

go ahead and slam me. Its in the spirit of burnign man right!?

Ummm, what about a picture of you in a LBD. That would kinda be advertising, but if it's a really, really short LBD we can overlook the commercialism of it all. Oh yeah, a matching pair of those come-fukme-pumps, with the silk stockings with the black line up the back. Hey we all know you're a guy, but hey.....
