acoustic renditions of dylan and the like . . .
AND - how in the hell do they get in? You certainly can't make 250$ on
the sale of hemp bracelets alone . . . can you?

Fuck all you hippie haters. I camped with my best friends, who happen to also be long time Rainbows, who happen to also own a successful business and contribute greatly to their community. They, and we, were fully self sufficient, as I expect that the majority of hippies attending Burning Man were. We participated, we gifted and we had a hell of a good time. The majority of hippies that I know give far more than they take.
Yeah, I know the type you are thinking of. Ya know what, every subculture has takers, usually a subset of the youth, just looking for an excuse to party. They think that the world owes them everything. Most of those kids do grow up.
Why is it that so many people feel the need to characterize an entire subculture by the negative characteristics exhibited by a small percentage of that culture? This applies to Hippies, Fraternity Brothers, Ravers, and Burners.
Please move beyond your divisive prejudices.

Well if you think about it a neclace or bracelet costs about maby $3 to make if you dont uses really expensive beads and you can sell them for like $12-$20 so its a good turnover rate if you ask me.

Dang--even at $30, I don't know if it's a good use of my time. Of course, I never got very far at stringing beads and liked the mid priced ones. . .baramiah wrote: Well if you think about it a neclace or bracelet costs about maby $3 to make if you dont uses really expensive beads and you can sell them for like $12-$20 so its a good turnover rate if you ask me.

hmm... just so i can get a handle on your new style of class segregation.... what parameters are we using to define "Hippie"? is it a particular hair style? mode of dress? musical preferences? those seem to be the big three as far as defining another from oneself so i thought it would be a good place to start.
oops....i forgot skin colour.

I have to agree with ChineseObelisk
Yeah, hippies are better than spectators. They don't smell better (is BO and patchouli better than BO and Beer?) but at least they are nice, don't heckle the performers and don't mix up art for commerce.

neo-hippies
Really, I didn't think there was too much neo-hippie energy out there this year - a little more acoustic anything would have been a welcome counterpoint to my soundscape. If there was a catergory of culture that I would basely point my finger at for reduced impact on the playa - it would have to be the ravers. Hey, i'm clearly not trying to make friends here, but I really don't see any group out there as a problem - I'll just do my damndest to encourage more diverse live music acts to show up for next year. Peace.
