I got a promotion :).

I quit smoking cigarettes - 51 DAYS today.

I opened my very first credit card. (hah i'm soooo late on that one)

I have made more forward progress this year than I have in all my previous years of life. SO many amazing lessons of responsibility, adulthood and true self-reliance have been realized and I couldn't be happier. Who knew it would only take 9 short months away from home to make all this happen. It's been an adventure and I am for the first time in my life, proud. I'm focused, honed in on some defined, attainable goals and one by one I'm checking them off my list. Feels good man.

I might have to make it to woosday this week.

My first test of the flame poofer for The Beast was around midnight on sunday. The neighbor called the police and when the first officer showed up he mentioned that I should operate it again so he could you know "make sure it's safe" and he asked if we could wait for his partner. After about half an hour the whole department was in the parking lot. We waited another ten minutes for the police cheif to show up and I fired it up for a demonstration as well as fired up the Beast and walked a few paces. They all lined up shook my hand and thanked me for the demo. As they left the parking lot the neighbor stopped the last officer and complained, so the officer came back and said I almost forgot to tell you for future referance try and keep testing before 9 pm thanks.

I would consider this a successful test.
Agreed.

(I love it that the whole department showed up.)

Great news from everyone!

I have some good news. I went to my mechanic thinking I may need a new ignition tumbler. He asked me what was going on and he referred me to a locksmith and they came to my house and fixed it for only $65!! YAY! My car key was just worn out! My mechanic (Jim) saved me about $200! So now I can get something else on my car fixed! I <3 my mechanic!

I went into the FUCK thread the other day just to get some stuff off my chest. It had been a hard month and I had just had one of the worst days ever. And the cherry on top was my car breaking down. I was so stressed and freaked and didn't know how I was going to take care of it. I felt better just typing it out and letting it go. But then all these PM's and messages started rolling in and then donations to my paypal and...I just can't even say enough. My eplaya friends are angels roaming the earth doing good works and restoring my faith in the goodness of people around me. I feel so blessed and full of gratitude. And most importantly...I feel no stress. I know now it will be okay, that I will be okay. I have been crying in happiness for two days now. I can't get over the amazing people here on this board. I just want to say that I love you all and hope you all receive the love and blessings back that you are putting out into the world. You deserve every bit of goodness that comes your way. You are forever considered family in my book and as such will be honored in every prayer and thought when I meditate at my altar. (I follow the Buddhist and Shinto practice of honoring family and ancestors)

I tattooed the word Karma on my right wrist years ago to remind me of my own actions taken and the repercussions they could cause and I vowed to turn my life around and do works of good from that moment on. And I think I've done a pretty damn good job. I've always helped those around me in need as selflessly as I could and never expected anything for it except the happiness of knowing someone else was happy. But my faith had taken a hit in the last year. I felt like why do I do all this good when nothing but bad seems to be heaped upon me. This weekend I have seen the good come back to me in spades. Never doubt that your good deed lives beyond you and inspires others. Never doubt that it will come back to you tenfold. Thank you all so much. Words will never express the absolute bliss and happiness I am experiencing right now.

We went for a walk along the Don River today. It's right in the middle of Toronto. You can't tell in this picture, but there's a freeway up the hill on one side and a major road on the other. However, there's enough green space along the riverbanks, and the roads are sufficiently separated by height and distance, that it's a beautiful place and feels very natural. It's a real gem to have it in the city (apparently the result of a hurricane, which destroyed the settlements along the river and drastically altered its course; the city then converted the area to parkland, to create a buffer and avert further disaster). This picture was taken just a couple of km (as the crow flies) from my downtown apartment.

Even though it's not a "real" walk in the country, getting out there is good for what ails you.

It sure does Cat. :)
It's always been one of my favorite sources of solace to escape into whatever sliver of wilderness I can find. Kudos.
But I thought the Don River was in Russia somewhere?

Russia traded it for grain a few years back. Gotta feed those people.

Actually, it was named after the River Don in Yorkshire, England, which in turn was named after the Celtic mother-goddess, Dôn/Danu. She is apparently the Celtic version of a proto-Indo-European water goddess with a similar name:
Wikipedia wrote:A goddess Dānu is attested in the Rigveda, and also the river names Danube (Latin: Danuvius), Dniestr, Dniepr and Don [Russia] derive from the name.
So, yeah... all these rivers are named for the same prehistoric goddess -- which is pretty cool -- if Wikipedia is to be believed. I will assume that it is correct in this case, until someone presents me with evidence to the contrary.

I left my camera on an outdoor table at McMenamins Edgefield (a large drinking reservation in Troutdale, Oregon) at a b-day soiree. I called the next day and they didn't have it in their lost & found. Left my telephone digits but it was never turned in.
It was a good excuse to get a new one.
I picked up a Lumix DMC-ZS19 yesterday.
It is a happy making thing indeed.
Finally, a camera that makes my food look edible on the blog.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
My latest lot of Soviet pins came wrapped in a Bulgarian (presumably) targetish ad circular! First thing I saw was an illustration of some sort of pretzel sticks in packaging with a beaver! (Not a "canadian" beaver, just the regular kind.) The inside of the mouth was the window into the sticks. Fantastic. Another little thing had four languages in it. And the name of this emporium? Kaufland! Oh, I have a silly idea of happy, but this qualifies.

My almost 2 year old kitty, who is essentially like my child, got out of the house. The house is beside a very busy intersection, and Kevin is only an inside cat. I was freaking out for all of 15minutes, before he appeared on the neighbour's front step.

Thank goodness, because I had horrible images in my head of him being run over by a car the entire time we were looking for him.

His punishment was lots of cuddles, and a bath because he was dirty. Makes me cherish him ever so much more.

Yay! I'm glad Kevin is okay--not to mention has demonstrated the sense to chill out on someone's porch. It's such a sickening feeling when an indoor cat escapes.

I am also highly amused, overall, by a kitty named Kevin.

I'm just happy. MY dad is slowly working out all the things wrong with my car. And I have the cash to fund it now thx to eplaya. I was able to get my nephew his b-day present yesterday without freaking out about money. I was able to order groceries and not feel guilty about splurging on the nicer cheese. I am just freaking happy and stress free for the first time in a long time. And I think I'm going to Burning Man. A most generous offer from Tinkermom is making my dreams come true this year. I really couldn't be better right now I think. Maybe a cocktail...naw, it's too early. I'm good with my delicious omelet and oj.
