That should get your preliminary total multiplied by .5- it's kind of an overall bonus. I just love the "I'm too poor to go until I didn't get a cheap ticket" posts...Drawingablank wrote:I think bonus points should be in order for those who didn't get a low income ticket, but now miraculously can afford to buy a regular ticket at face value.
I kind of think anyone who gets the BBCode right on their first post should get tossed a couple of points, and agree the use of multiple colors & fonts sizes is good for a boost.

You mean... 1.5, right?Eric wrote:That should get your preliminary total multiplied by .5- it's kind of an overall bonus.Drawingablank wrote:I think bonus points should be in order for those who didn't get a low income ticket, but now miraculously can afford to buy a regular ticket at face value.
Otherwise, you're dividing their points in half.

Fuck - IMHO that should be 2.0 plus 100 There are few things less in the burner spirit than applying for a low income ticket if you don't really need one.catinthefunnyhat wrote:You mean... 1.5, right?Eric wrote:That should get your preliminary total multiplied by .5- it's kind of an overall bonus.Drawingablank wrote:I think bonus points should be in order for those who didn't get a low income ticket, but now miraculously can afford to buy a regular ticket at face value.

So, if they use many colours with huge fonts and at least 15 Smilies they should get +20.

I mean, yeah, I feel you. And I agree in principle, BUT... it's not hard to imagine being a borderline case... poor enough to qualify (or to almost qualify but not quite), but able to scrape together enough money for a full-price ticket, if desperate, by scrimping elsewhere, or by picking up some crazy extra hours at work, or by selling a kidney... etc.
I think a 1.5 modifier is reasonable without knowing the details of their situation. But perhaps could be modified upward if the post included more evidence of not being at all qualified for low-income tickets, or of using them as a "last resort," or in cases where someone "didn't qualify" because all their work has been undocumented and untaxed for the last two years (yeah, I'm still annoyed with that guy. I can't let that one go).

Re: 2012 Ticket Scorekeeping Thread
Scorekeeping fine- hell, I'm contributing. Tournaments using actual members of the board, not so much. Skips on that thin "attack" line & makes the Mods have to think in a fun thread. I don't want to think in here. I want to snark.theCryptofishist wrote:Maybe we should all pick favorites and put them into tournaments.catinthefunnyhat wrote:(yeah, I'm still annoyed with that guy. CatIn: yes, it should have been 1.5, my bad.
I don't think low income/sudden money qualifies for a double bonus because there could be legit reasons, but it still sounds bad. People who admit all the ways they tried to game the tickets & still don't have one- that's a double bonus. Maybe even a triple.

If it was a rant defending, good choice. Eric is right. Sometimes I get carried away. That's why we have mods, so there's someone to put brakes on our bad ideas.

No, it wasn't that at all. I've never been inclined to question Eric's judgment about community-guideline stuff.theCryptofishist wrote:If it was a rant defending, good choice. Eric is right. Sometimes I get carried away. That's why we have mods, so there's someone to put brakes on our bad ideas.
It was a rant about a poster on these forums who is not a gimmeticket beggar but is getting a lot of well-deserved snark in his own thread. I had tried to craft a lengthy, reasoned response to him in that thread and, after spending two hours trying, had given up. So I came in here to vent some spleen, but it was mean-spirited, ranty, and off-topic for this thread. And I'm sure he's a very nice person who means well; piling on in here was giving in to my baser instincts. I'm glad I caught myself in time (almost).

Oh geezus, stop wasting your time and energy on the clown nose guy already! Let him do his thing and reap his reward or suffer his consequence. Nothing you or anyone else says is going to dissuade him from bringing his noses, so the next best thing is to offer constructive tips on how he might mitigate the MOOP issues to make sure his project is a success. It can be a win-win for everybody.catinthefunnyhat wrote:No, it wasn't that at all. Re: 2012 Ticket Scorekeeping Thread
I'm not even sure this post is for real. Can it be?
If so, I think I have a new favourite. It almost seems like it should skip right past this thread and go directly to the wall of wrong.
Ticket fiasco rant, previous burner x12 years, past volunteer and prospective volunteer, first-time ticket, mentions being female, AND asks for a free ticket
I feel like there should be extra points for her animosity towards the BMORG and the event. She wants to boycott the event, but she doesn't want to miss the event, so she's going to punish BMORG by having another burner gift her their tickets (for which they've already paid, and despite the event being sold out). What sorcery is this?
I nominate this post as a shining example of "radical self-entitlement."

Re: 2012 Ticket Scorekeeping Thread
Any points for using festival in their post?
Are there any long term burners that refer to Burning Man as a festival? That word, in this context, bothers me!
Ok: add 50 points for "festival" and 50 points for claiming to work gate, 30 points for not posting anything that hints towards actual gate experience.

different kind of scorekeeping
roughly 1.1% of ticket wanted were received
i didnt look at every thread.. might have missed a few.. but looks folks have got 2 out of 184 tickets wanted..

A bunch of points for name-dropping any department/team as far as I'm concerned. Double (or maybe triple) if it's a department the poster isn't even a part of. We all can appreciate that your intentions were to work a lot of shifts for ____ this year, but until you're a member of the team….you aren't.

Re: 2012 Ticket Scorekeeping Thread
@stretch80 - I think lemur's tallying up number of posts from people seeking tickets, versus number of ticket seeker threads closed (tickets found). I think those are always going to be really tough odds. Aside from the tens of thousands of people who entered the main sale and came up empty, there are tens of thousands of additional people who want to go who were never even registered.
