DEAR VIRGINS, LEAVE A TRACE!
Huh?
wait a second, is that a typo?
NO, no it's not.
Dear Virgins, i would like you to think about leaving a trace. Yes, i know the principles say Leave No Trace, but we used to have a barter economy of sorts before it was an official gift economy, so evolution DOES occur.
Hear Me Out.
Whenever or wherever i go on the playa i always carry a plastic sack or some other container, and as i stroll, or saunter, or possibly even shuffle my way to wherever i'm going i try to pick up any moop along the way.
theres good shit out there, in fact the playa will provide you with what you need if you take care of her.
case in point.
i never bring drugs to the playa, she gives me all i need.
last year, at the gate, during a ticket snafu, a ticket came out of the dust and blew right past me, and i grabbed it, and we managed to get in, after traveling 3000+ miles to get there.
i swear to fucking god, and i have witnesses.
Now, i've been doing this for awhile, don't expect the big score, like the time i found a WHOLE VIAL of some unknown liquid....or the ticket miracle, or countless other sundries i have found RIGHT WHEN I NEEDED THEM, and all because i left a trace.
HUH?
wait for it.
how about this notion, instead of leaving no footprint, or leaving no trace you ACTUALLY MAKE IT BETTER THAN HOW YOU FOUND IT...
don't just pick up your shit, pick up other shit as well...people will IMMEDIATELY give you PlayaSpect(tm) because you are making the dust better than the way you found it.
this doesnt just apply to the dust, if you see somebody who needs something or assistance, HELP THEM OUT, volunteer your time, even if for only 5 minutes....you will meet new people, and LEAVE A TRACE..
they will remember you.
Memories are one of the longest lasting things Humans Produce.
memories and stories.
Fix something thats broken...help Lift something when you see the need...offer assistance and clean up, just for the FUCK OF IT...
you will leave a trace in those people that see you, perhaps to even do the same, or adopt a similar outlook.
you will leave a trace that lasts a long time even though it's not "there".
virgins, lead by example, show us crusties that you get it, at least a part of it, and leave a trace.
and trust me, the more you moop, the more you'll scoop...You never know WHAT you'll find out there...
and every time you leave something, someplace or someone better than you found it, you have succeeded and the reward will be knowing that THE PLAYA LOVES YOU.
wait a second, is that a typo?
NO, no it's not.

Beautifully written, Simon! I plan on taking quite a few extra bags and doing just that! You never know what you'll find, or who you can help. At the very least, you're keeping home beautiful. Also - I'm gonna get some serious playa cred. Or at least I plan to.

Re: DEAR VIRGINS, LEAVE A TRACE!
Simon.... Did that ticket thing happen monday am?
I was working gayte, and a couple lost a pair of tickets while they were in line (how this happened is beyond me). So they were of course turned away, and sent to D lot to figure their shit out.
During this time, as I was directing traffic, a ticket blew in front of me. I went to will call to see about finding its owner. I was told about the couple that lost their ticket, and that they were in D lot. I found them, and gave them the one ticket I had. This was enough to convince will call what happened to them really happened, and they got in. (I dont know if the serial number was traceable to them, but after some back and forth banterimg between them and someone within the org, they were able to burn)
