Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
To clarify further, by simple progression it appears the timestamps have thus far and are seemingly likely to continue being accurate to approximately the minute. It also appears that depending on when you got through and what servers were used, there is some variability between the seconds on your time stamp and the real time you were added to the line. This is likely due to latency between servers, large amounts of traffic, as well as other un-determinable factors at play.

That explanation is logical, Captain.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Two people that I know of just recently received their tickets around the 12:10 timestamp, someone I was talking to on Twitter and another on Facebook within the past few days. Just keeping people updated because I don't think they posted to eplaya.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
While I wait, and wait, AND wait to move along in the STEP queue, I had the chance for a pair of tickets today via a campmate. She knew a friend-of-a-friend 1/2 way across the country who was looking to sell theirs but alas, they decided to gouge. I WILL NOT PAY ABOVE COST, I'd rather not go. So SHOVE your scalping attitudes anyone who wants to try and profit from this situation!

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Ugh, sorry to hear about it. Hopefully another ticket connection at face value gets to you soon.
Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Hey lucky420, thanks for your message, I appreciate it.
Everybody else with comments, thanks to you too.
I have about 12 hours until deadline. If I don't hear back from them in time, I'll have to make a decision.

Composing an email now, thank you.Eric wrote:Drutter: Contact partiserv (at) burningman.com
That's the ticketing dept, they can give you an official answer, unlike the ones you're getting here. If their answer doesn't work for you no solution that comes up on eplaya will work either- very few people here speak "officially" for any of the Org departments.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
It took you until just now to write a simple email after everyone told you time and time again what to do to fix the situation? Jesus fuck. Some people.
You're most likely not going to hear back within 12 hours.. they're slammed. You need to just buy them and turn them back into STEP if it doesn't work out.
Or, waste more time whining and not thinking.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
That was thoughtless and very rude. I appreciated an earlier comment you made junglesmacks, but this was just so uncalled for. You have NO idea what my situation is, other than what I've posted here in the thread. Trust me, if I was whining, I would have said a LOT more. It was very inappropriate for you to judge and attack me like that. I'll assume you're under a great deal of personal stress right now, and let it go, but please don't do that again - to anyone.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Hi Drutter--
Best of luck to you with the whole STEP ticket situation
I am not trying to discount your feelings, but just try to take comments on E-playa with a grain of salt.
I've only been on here a couple months, and at first was very sensitive to snarkiness or rudeness from others, to the point that I almost ended up in tears.
actually, JungleSmacks was one of the few people who was friendly to me, and made me feel like it was okay to stick it out on eplaya.
now i am glad i did.
from what i understand, many people say things on message boards that are more sarcastic than what they might say in real life.
again, your feelings are valid, but try not to take it personally. and absolutely stay here in the e-playa community

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
No.. it's straight truth and hopefully a wake up call to get your self reliant butt in gear. We all told you to just email partiserv and ask, but you waited how many days until you finally did so? That's crazy.
If you can't handle either getting yourself a ticket when it's spoonfed to you or handling someone calling you out on it, how are you going to handle 80mph winds blowing 40 grit sandpaper at you while some drunken Gigsville-ian berates you with a megaphone? Call it tough love. Make yourself a better person because of it.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
I have been patiently waiting since the STEP line opened and am thrilled to announce thy I just received my email and bought my ticket for $390. Was getting a little worried when I saw people get tickets who had a time stamp later than mine but it all worked out. My time stamp was 12:10:23. so keep hope even if it's hard. now I'll start the long preparation. see you on the playa!

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
The STEP behemoth engine is chugging along with excellent timestamp correlation (not causation, not monotonic. I had to sign a waiver declaring my disbelief in time stamps before it let me buy).
Got my ticket (1) an hour and a half ago.
Timestamp: 12:10:20
Cost: $240 (lucky!)

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Its like getting into the burn and you've found your in the 'slow' lineup... D'OH!
Heh reminds me of our second burn and as we got into the main lineups on to the playa a gate person in a golf cart motioned at us as he opened a new lineup... it was as if the sea parted and the angels sang...

Woot! I'm getting closer
Hopefully no one got skipped, though the forum mentioned before that sometimes the timestamps are just guidelines.. so maybe it was a fluke to go so forward (But hopefully not and tons of step tickets just came in!)

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Since the timestamps are not a direct reflexion of when you left the sign up page, but are instead put on the emails by external servers who passed on the registration email, they aren't a good guide. Upthread someone mentioned a different time stamp that does come from when the email left the ticketeers, but I don't know exactly how to find that one.

Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
Again. to see the time stamp that shows you when your email has left the ticketeers server all you need to do is look at the source code of your Email.theCryptofishist wrote:Upthread someone mentioned a different time stamp that does come from when the email left the ticketeers, but I don't know exactly how to find that one.
in Gmail what you have to do is do to the small triangle that is next to the reply button at the top right side of the message that is labeled as more, and choose "Show Original". you will then see a pure text version of the Email you've received. somewhere between lines 15 to 25 you will find the following string:
Subject: Burning Man STEP: you've been added
From: Burning Man Tickets <[email protected]>
Date: Fri, 02 Mar 2012 12:17:00 -0800
this time stamp is the time stamp that shows you the time the Email message left the ticket server. (in my case it took 56 seconds to travel between all servers).
I don't know exactly how to do the same in other mail sites / software, but you should look for a function that shows you the Original email in pure text, with the complete Email header.
AGAIN I WILL STATE HERE THAT TIME STAMPS ARE NOT AN EXACT WAY TO KNOW YOUR PLACE IN LINE!!!! they are merely an approximation.
Shit, where was i for the last week... ehm...
Re: Did you get a STEP Ticket?
In Outlook you open the message then go to File --> Properties. Header is then displayed in the box at the bottom of the window - scroll down to about line 15 as said above. The first time stamp in the header appears to be the received time stamp (which in my case took 7 minutes).
All that being said, timestamps are not an official way of knowing your place in line.
