Bitching, Moaning, Wingeing

Post by Rian Jackson » Fri Sep 17, 2004 10:27 am

Ok. Fine. Here's where all the bitching goes because i'm sick of it being everywhere in this community.

Here's mine:

all of the fucking negativity and blaming everyone else for our shitty burns has really started to colour mine. i very nearly left the eplaya and my home listserv this week. Probably should have, just up and left and taken responsibilty for my own shit.

it's enough to make me wonder if i want to go next year, if i want to invest in this community, and if i want to keep putting my energy into it.

it's driving me up the wall.

sorry everyone whose burns were *ruined* by someone else, but your shitty additudes are starting to *ruin* mine.

*sigh* there. said it. thank god.

Second that.

I signed up for the NY list and almost bailed after a day. You want to see some whinging and whining, you should see New Yorkers when they get it all in a twist. The current piss-fest is over whether the BMorg or some NY burners have trademarks rights to DeCon/DeCom. And it's getting personal.

Thank your lucky stars, I say, for places like the Fuck thread where Lydia got loved yesterday, and the Crush thread where I got some when I was feeling down the day before. The Good Morning thread, where Joel lets us know how he's feeling. All of it.

Is this too happy-sappy a reply for the Bitch thread? If so, I'm sorry. I'll bitch some more later.

p.s. Got your back R-Jack!

regarding regional groups... i lasted about 48 hours on the Chicago list before i was overwhelmed by the "Chicago in your face attitude" thingie...

anyway... i attribute most shitty outlooks to cranial rectum impactions... or simply put... having one's head up their ass, so of course the world looks shitty...

and it is spelled whining...

I'm glad to hear it. That would make the fourth regional list (Added to Toronto, Austin, and Gigsville/LA) which is having serious issues with the trademarking of the name "Decompression".

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way for us all to contact the Borg about it. (anyone got a complaints eamil addy for the Borg? I can't find one)

Listen, I had a great time a Bman this year - in large part because of my community and people who were still willing to go through the hassle of trying to permit fire art - but I still think the Borg's priorities are highly questionable. I think it's entirely legitimate to bitch about where ticket money gets spent, and what direction the Borg is headed in with the event. We are the "customers" after all.

If you want to contain legitimate concern into some little thread called "bitching", go ahead. And eplaya will remain the boosterish, rah-rah squad it seems to be.

The LA list is great! Twan has an excellent newsletter! My only complaint is I cannot do everything listed! Or is this the regional area on the eplaya.

I agree 100% I have spoke to a several people who have the same gripe. That's why they don't go here anymore. That's funny. A thread to bitch about bitching.

Yeah, Rian, thanks for saying it.

Seriously people, there's constructive comments and then there's the other stuff. YOU can choose to let your life happen to you, let these 'whatever' people 'ruin' your burn, your life, your whatever. Or you can choose to live your life the way you want and CREATE what you want at the burn, in your life, at your whatever.

Just like in the rest of my life, I try to not put energy towards the people who just complain and blame for the sake of it. There's been times when I've been tempted to say something snippity on some threads but why bother to put energy towards it, unless it's in a way where you are trying to be constructive or point out sides that the poster may not have thought about.

And just like the rest of world, there are and WILL ALWAYS BE (I hope anyways) LOTS of different kinds of people at BRC, and on the eplaya. So suck it up or make your own event where you can specific exactly who is or isn't allowed to go. OR make BM the kind of place you want to be.

Rian has to have been aware of it. That's the only way I could read her post, make sense of it. She's just setting the mood for the thread.

It's been awhile since I've had "Club 5" forcibly stamped on my forehead... so what the hell.

This is one of those situations where having the ability to ignore the threads with the most bitching... or ignore the worst bitchers... would be really really keen.

Hrm...

This having been my first burn and all here are my impressions.

Anything that I found disappointing about my experience for my virgin year I blame on myself. I didn't see the meet & greet invite. I didn't interrupt someone to talk to Cap'n. I didn't bring ANY costume gear what-so-evar. My mind was not at peace enough to be able to let go of real-life items. Showed up to the burn too late to get a view of the Poi? dancers. Plus new hiking boots that I stupidly hadn't broken in yet. All my issues.

My neighbors were all cordial and wonderful to be around. Even the camp across the street with the half-assed looking art-car that was blaring Techno at all hours of the day was populated with nice people who were fun to talk to.

When Wednesday hit the whole mood of the community seemed to swing. The fleet of rent-a-RVs rolled in and set up camp. The number of yahoos wandering about being outright annoying increased five fold. Etc. Now, even then this didn't ruin my mood. I still managed to have a lot of fun.

Overally my biggest disappointment was that I didn't felt hat I contributed enough to the community. I knew I didn't have much in that respect this year as I was more concerned about simple survival than anything. The only thing that pissed me off is that I didn't do enough.

I came back from Burning Man with the realization that the whole experience is simply what you make of it. I didn't let the actions of other get in my way of having fun, I simply had it.

Most of the time I think people are simply too sensitive about everything. I had my moments, like when I felt like punching the guy next to me with the big crank siren he was holding up near my ear at the burn. However, that was his fun so I simply moved.

Rian Jackson,

Sorry I missed you at the M&G

As to the negativity here just pass it by. I have a feeling stuff will tone down some in the next month or two.

And I need your help on my IDEA for next year. A Playa Torpedo to take out the Playa Cruiser. And the Captain is also suppose to be working on a Playa Plane so I might need a Playa Rocket. Or maybe a Playa Pirate to grapple and board the Playa Cruiser to steal the booze and blender.

The Captain said we should stir things up on the Eplaya when I met him at the M&G.

Joe, I hope this is acceptable to you.

grumble grumble swear cute grumble.

i'm in, calsur, just so long as we can also fire it at anyone who calls me cute! i'm always up for a joust with the captain.

no, i'm not ignoring you guys especially, i'm ignoring everyone! go go gadget hermit!

bcwa is the list for burners from British Columbia and Washington State.

there are actually two, one with infrequent emails for events and the other for general discussion of politics, activities, resources, parties, benefits, community, sparkles, ideas... etc etc etc. the burningman-bcwa list has been over 200 messages a day around burn time. it's pretty active year round, 'cause the local is always busy with something. go to yahoo groups, do a search for burningman bcwa, it will bring up both of them.

i highly suggest NOT getting individual emails from the discussion list.

sparkletarte, this is how you find out about who what where when why how howmuch whatthefuck. it's also a pretty decent way to get to know our crazy regional group better. i think there are around 1500 on the list.

Sensei and Lydia should be on it, too. Then they won't bitch at me for not letting them know about the parties (this weekend: both in Vancouver and Seattle. maybe 2 in seattle) or the spa day coming up, or Nathan's care package to Afghanistan, or drink specials at the joint.
