One Item for BM a Day (2010-2012)
Re: One Item for BM a Day
So first of all, sorry that I have been avoiding eplaya like the plague, I thought I wasn't going this year and reading about all your excitement was painful for me. Then I grew the fuck up and realized I missed all my friends on here. Then a fucking miracle happened. After having my friends here literally save my car and finances, my Fairy Burn Mother, Tinkermom, offered to gift me a trip to BRC this year. I just gotta get to Vegas. Is there an easier thing to do in this country? Everything goes to Vegas! So she is gonna wave her magic wand and make me magically appear in Barbie Death Camp wearing a tutu and combat boots. I feel like Cinderella!
So all of a sudden I realized, fuck! I gotta get planning my outfits and gifts and I only have a few months! I am usually well into my gift making/ordering by this point. So my accomplishment today was to annoyingly call Tinkermom my Fairy Burn Mother and realize I need to make her a wand or wings or something hilarious and meaningful that reflects her generosity of spirit.
And my second prep was to spend all night pouring over ideas for gifts for my campmates. I do not think I can gift to everyone in BDC just cause it's so big, but that doesn't mean I can't try!

I have rather the same feeling about my art this year. Normally I am deep into painting and creating by now, but not a thing I do feels right. And I need enough art for E-11 also. I know I can count on art donations to some degree, but I have an uneasy feeling whatever I do is not enough.

Today I bought some Bike Glow lights after seeing I could get them 1/2 off with the burner2012 code.
I still need to work out the bike but at least I know I will be seen once I get it. I also got a Camelbak MULE to carry my stuff and hydrate/intoxicate (thanks to Fufa's awesome idea!) myself during the day. I really want to get a utilkilt but WOW they are expensive. I will keep the search up for an alternative.

My buggy now runs like a bat out of hell.
6 new matched batteries and a new speedswitch got it moving. 36 volt charger in the shop, probably a capacitor malfunction. Tech wants $20 for part and $25 for labor, not bad. Next week I might be able to charge my buggy. I've got a 1K generator, but the tech says I might be able to charge batteries off of charger plugged into 110 outlets, but to run or start he recommends a 2K genny. 110 volts X 10 amps = 1,100 watts. He said my genny MIGHT handle it.
I got a reflective triangle for slow vehicle today, printed out placard and handicapped signs to put on buggy. These buggys are supposed to travel over 36 holes, but recommendation is to charge after 18 holes
I think a toddler's fitted bed sheet will cover the shade frame, ducttape isn't holding well on the original rubberized plastic top. I've noticed a fine crack in the fiberglass passenger fairing, but it's small.

I'm not sure this counts, but I was sounding out an unfamiliar word today, with the letter "y" in it, and for just a moment I wanted to sound it "ooo". Crash course in Russian alphabet beginning to take hold.

Lots of hula hoop practice for me this week. It's hell on the rosebushes, but I'm getting better bit by bit. My 65 year old artist/musician neighbor loves the LED hula hoop show at night.
Plans for this weekend include wiring the new solar panel to charge our trailer battery, trying out new sangria recipes, and making progress on my Miser's Pirate Coat project.
Holy crap it's MAY already!!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
After 7 weeks of waiting, today I I had my first taste test of home made cheddar cheese. And I must say, it's pretty damned good!
A few tweaks to the process and I'll be making 2 batches this week that should be aged to perfection come playa-time. Making cheese is one of those things that is totally NOT cost-effective to DIY but the I-made-it-myself element makes up the difference.

I feel so left out of the thread now
I don't really have anything else I need to buy or get other then trying to make some outfits for the burn. But pretty much everything else I have now.
My dog peed all over my bedding last night so I got to try out my sleeping bag. It is warm! So I will be in for a good time.

Today I ordered badly needed new goggles from Bobster. They are actually sunglasses that work like goggles. HEKLER SUNGLASSES, BLK FRAME, ANTI-FOG PHOTOCHROMIC LENS. Very happy with this especially since I used the discount code SPRING12 to get 25% off. This is good til 5/11/12 if anyone else is shopping for goggles/sunglassses.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Spent $$$ today but got a lot of things crossed off the list:
Day goggles
Night goggles
A belt-clippable case for the goggles that turned out to be too small for either pair
Nitrile-coated gloves
Water bladder for hydration backpack
Cool S-shaped carabiners
2x large handerkerchief
Webbing belt
Belt pouch
Hip pack with 2x water bottle
Lights for the bike
Batteries
and a special something for my mini art project!

Our camp finally agreed and posted a priority list of items we need to get. Hopefully we can move on and start getting more momentum!

I joined a camp! Aside from that, I made a score @ the thrift store on some boots and a corset. I think an led light item arrives daily via the magical web.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I bought a bunch of solar path lights that can use white or multi-colored LEDs. I figure they will keep the camp festive and help us mark guy lines and other hazards.

My bikeglow lights and camelbak came in! They are both great.

It's an awesome grater/slicer thingie. The cone things lock on to the crank and then it's go time! Works fantastically as a cheese slicer for cheddar cheese. At least that was my favorite memory of the thing.
