Did BMORG kill the goose that laid the golden eggs?
Why was there so little art this year? Because, in its infinite capacity for greed, BMORG charged so much for tickets that artists were unable to attend. It's that simple. I wish the people who are in charge these days cared about more than the almighty dollar. Their insistence on milking every last dollar out of the event will kill it off.

That is certainly ONE way to look at it. Another way is that they still aren't charging enough. They increased prices and the population still went up 15%. Seems some of the virgins need to be inspired to create art in future years or people need to gift tickets to artists they deem worthy and whose work they appreciate. You could probably start a fund to collect donations to purchase tickets for artists. Have fundraisers ... etc. I don't think there are any rules against that. $1000 will get several artists a ticket to the event.
There are two choices, bitch or find a way to get what you need. You need art? I will bet that if you work hard enough for it, you will get it! This is directed more at the community at large than at you personally. I have been hearing a lot of complaints about things and people all seem to be waiting for someone else to do something to get them what they need. Surrender to the elements and work with what you are presented with.

If it was not my first year I would have probably worked on a few art pieces and i am unemployed. Time was just to restrictive and my focus on my first year was to explore.
I don't think the cost isn't prohibitive at all. I am considered in the bottom of the low income bracket and I still made it out and survived wonderfully. My bills are paid and I did not charge a single thing. It is all about want and how bad you want to go. This year I am making even less money and I am already planning on putting together a large art piece. I can find so many freebees out there and I sure I am not the only one. It is finding resources and using them.
Do you think in the spirit of a good discussion you could state some instances of how the event is cost prohibitive? Maybe how cost would relate to less ability to be creative? Like I said I make very little money a year even compared to most artists and I find it very affordable to go as long as I plan throughout the year and not a month beforehand.

Nobody said criticism was "bad", troll-boy. It's your fucked up attitude that sucks.troll-boy wrote:Yes, criticism of our leaders is bad.
Well, I guess there's nothing left to discuss. Troll-boy has it all figured out for the rest of us. Thanks for setting us all straight there, troll-boy.troll-boy wrote:...Because, in its infinite capacity for greed, BMORG charged so much for tickets that artists were unable to attend. Sensei, I suspect that you don't vote Republican. In fact, I suspect that Republicans are anathema to you. Nevertheless, you have exactly the same mentality as those who scream "Why do you hate America?" at anyone who criticizes President Bush and his "war on terror." I guess there are just a lot of little tin-pot fascists in the world, and that, while some of them follow President Bush, others follow President Harvey.

There's just no comparison. Everybody tells lies but Bush and Co. are compulsive. More amazing are the belivers.nignog wrote:Yes, criticism of our leaders is bad. People who criticise BMORG are just like those nasty people who criticise President Bush.
True though BM is kinda expensive.

Well here it is, if not for larry and company none of us would be here talking about this would we? You can not, in this world, do anything that rivals this type of success without some bunged up pinko trying to tear it all down ,either literally, or with some silly little propaganda. I think Nignumbnuts is aspiring to be a politician,if you can't do anything yourself ,try and tear down what others are doing.

My guess is the ones who complain about the cost of entry are the very same who do the bare minimum to get in to the event and then mooch off others the whole time and contribute little to the city.
Geez, ticket price is like what, 5-10% of the outlay for getting my rig and lighting stuff out there? Many people do a whole lot more and put a great deal of time and effort and resources into their big thing; the ticket is just the icing on the cake. I'd support twice the current ticket price if attendee quality could thereby be improved across the event. So there. Give out twice the artist grants too for those with visions and the drive to fulfill them, and twice the scholarship level tickets. No comp'd tickets though...everyone ought to feel they belong by having to buy and getting to hold their own real honest ticket. You are then vested in the event.
