For me, it's a nice little countdown. Doesn't predict WHEN I'll get a ticket, or even IF I'll get one, but it's nice to see the march towards my 12:18 timestamp, since it's almost certain tickets are being doled out in order of said stamp. Not that hard to understand the enjoyment in that, as far as I'm concerned. When discussing religion with a religious person, do you concentrate on whether or not the historical events in a religious text are accurate? I'm guessing yes.
I'll accept that, though it seem there are people still carrying the illusion that there is something more.

I was notified that I am in the STEP program, but I don't know what my time stamp is. How do you find out? Thanks.

Hypothetical question:

I was approved for, and purchased, 2 STEP tickets a month ago. If my partner can't go, is it possible for me to sell back only ONE ticket through STEP? I couldn't find an answer on the FAQ http://tickets2.burningman.com/faq.php#stepwhat

I also asked via the online customer support, and am waiting to hear back: http://tickets2.burningman.com/contact.php

Just curious if any of you knew.

Thanks!

Here is my info: Timestamp 12:14:34. No ticket yet. I doubt the other post at 12:16 is real. I know, I know, timestamps aren't guaranteed to be in order. But the more people send in their info, the better we can predict.

The timestamps are guaranteed NOT to be in order. There is no actual timestamp on the place in the STEP queue, no information of that kind was included with what was sent to email servers. Emails were sent on multiple different email servers that were not synced to the same time. And just when you send emails at home or work, sometimes an email sends out instantaneously, sometimes it takes a few extra seconds. The timestamps you're reading are what was put on it by the outgoing email server as it left. It's a plus or minus several minutes thing.

They'll be in order if we ignore all the ones that are out of order.

I bet you a thousand dollars that with a 12.14 timestamp I'll get offered 2 tickets before someone who's got a 12.15 or 12.16 within the actual code of their email....the 12.16 from FB is clearly from someone who just read the inbox time rather than the server time

No one claimed that time stamps predict days or times when people will receive tickets, just the general order in which people will receive them...at least the minute based ones do anyway, therefore they do stand for something no matter how much the mods try to say otherwise

I'm ambivalent. I mean, I know the timestamps don't tell me anything useful about my progress in the STEP line, but it's comforting to see the front of the line moving along, and -- with a few anomalies -- there seems to be some sequentiality to the timestamps, at least in the small sample we have here (especially when we ignore the exceptions... ). Again, I don't think that it's useful information in any real way, but it's comforting... makes it seem like the universe is unfolding as it should, or something.

It reminds me of the passport office, where you get a number and wait for it to be called. There are about 5 separate series of numbers going at once. Each series goes in order, but the series are all mixed up randomly. Each series starts with a different letter of the alphabet, followed by a 3-digit numeral. The idea, I guess, is to make sure nobody knows who's ahead of them in line or how many. I suspect it helps prevent conflict. So you sit there, for an hour or more, watching these numbers get called. You can never predict which series the next call will be from, but you can watch the numerals in each series tick up in order (e.g.. A137, C296, D 501, A138, B 222, B223, D502...). Even thought it's not helpful, it's comforting to keep an eye on the numbers in your series.

I'll give you a thousand dollars if you can show me one case where someone got a ticket out of line according to the time stamp by the minute.

One case.

Perhaps the mysteries of the timestamp are not meant to be understood, but to inspire?

In any case, the important thing is that the people that were not lucky in the lottery are risin' up, back on the street.
They did their time, took their chances
Went the distance now they're back on their feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the ink of the timestamp, it's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of the playa
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's markin' us all with the ink ....
of the timestamp.

trilobyte, you know I am partialy enjoying antoginizing you by ignoring everything you say regarding timestamps.

NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH. CANT HEAR YOU.

So my 12:14 timestamp mean i should be getting a ticket anyday now. :)
