A cook, a doctor and a banker
A cook, a doctor and a banker
Well, and a moron.
As for me (the doctor), I live in Amsterdam and my three friends live in or near that same city. For some years we've been speaking about experiencing Burning Man, and this year, finally, we decided to go. And we just can't wait.
So it's the four of us from The Netherlands, all virgins, and keen as to enjoy the playa and contribute to the community whichever way we can. We want to live the experience to the fullest.
Too much a group of newbies to start our own theme camp but very willing to join one if suited, we're still considering how best to gift our cooking, healing, but most of all, enthousiasm.
Thank you so much for your warm welcome, and please feel free to reply with any suggestions/tips, exchange of thoughts, or just a friendly greet.
Love,
Lester

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: A cook, a doctor and a banker
I'm curious about the enthousiasm. Is this an attempt to bring back English's second person familier?
(aside) Yes, I know, don't pick on the foriegn speaking newbies. You don't have a word of Dutch, Fishy, and you probably misspelled "familiar". I know you like looking like an ass, but first thing monday morning?

Hi Lester!
Here's one of many places to find a Theme Camp:
2012 Theme Camps
viewforum.php?f=283
If you see one that interests you specifically, send them a nice email or Private Message.
You will also want to join the Netherlands regional group email list, as they will probably have advice for you:
http://regionals.burningman.com/eu_nl.html
Remember that the theme camp experience is optional. Theme camps involve a certain amount of work and a fee, in return you hopefully get satisfying work giving the city an experience of some kind, & some support (usually shade, often showers or certain meals, etc, etc). If you camp on your own--which is never truly alone, you will have many neighbors--you must take care of yourself and each other, but your time is totally your own.

Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy?
Over the years I've traveled in the Dragon Wagon with an Austrian banker, a Greek lawyer, a British doctor, US doctor, an RN, two Dutch students, a cook, several artists...always an interesting crew!

You inadvertently got my hopes up with that Austrian banker. I thought it was "baker". Austrians make some seriously good bread...

Thank you so much for all your replies!
Dear Savannah, I will look into the list but I now understand like you wrote, maybe the experience won't be any less when we camp on ourselves (ie with our neighbours), especially this first time.
So yeah in fact it is: A cook, a doctor, a banker and his lover. I think the real question is: does the banker know?

I tried to send you a message but was unable too. The Black Rock French Quarter is looking for participants. http://www.blackrockfrenchquarter.org/ we have a tarot/ healing shop, a bakery, a brewery, a bathhouse with hot showers and a porcelin clawfoot tub, a cafe featuring beans roasted on playa then ground, and brewed in french presses, as well as several bars and a supperclub. If you are interested please visit our website, read about the camps, click on the camp you are interested in and send that camp a message. The director of that camp will get back to you right away.
thanks

Re: A cook, a doctor and a banker
Ijduup - Be sure to check in with the Amsterdam & Netherlands Burners on Facebook. They have a monthly Burning Pub get together at the Batavia Café in Amsterdam the second Thursday of each month. I'm going to be in the Netherlands in two weeks but unfortunately I leave the day before the Burning Pub on June 14 - BUT there are a few of us getting together at the Batavia Café 7pm on Tuesday, June 12th. If you can, stop on by for a beer or two.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.
Re: A cook, a doctor and a banker
Thanks geospider, we heard of the Burners Pub not long ago and are definitely joining the next one!
