Hi All!

We are two english girls looking to join a young, fun and friendly camp!
We will be renting a car and driving from Reno but will be camping so any suggestions for cool pitch places to pitch would be very much appreciated!!

Burningman participents come in a wide variety of ages and camp without much regard to the generational status of the particular subgroup.
Or, if you are looking for a camp that 's just starting out, I'll put in a word for the Swish Embassy, making their debut this year. I know some of the ... girls, and they are fun.

Welcome to ePlaya. BM values highly international participants. Here is a way to start for all new participants in 2012. Go to http://regionals.burningman.com/ and connect with people near you in person. And go to whatever recent year is at http://www.burningman.com/themecamps/ to see what common values and excitements you have with camps seeking members. Then you can contact them directly. Villages, larger, have more new joiner possibilities. Some camps are listed but are part of villages.

Then consider what you can contribute, your special abilities. Flying is limits that. But maybe you have skills, maybe early arriving or late cleanup options.

one of the things i like the most of my experiences at burning man is how all the various age groups are mixed up together in similar projects... folks of all backgrounds and skills doin stuff.. havin funs..

spending time in a 'young camp' seems like itd be kinda boring to me...

I agree. Our camp has always been multi-generational and everyone comes together to fulfill camp responsibilities and then everybody pairs up depending on who wants to go where and do what. And you might be surprised at the age disparity among some to these smaller groups too.

Absolutely. It's a good place to get your expectations of humanity shaken up in the best way... I'm something of an intellectual the rest of the year, underemployed, reading, often isolated. Most people I interact with on a regular basis have degrees, even post-graduate degrees. Heavily skewed West Coast and Bay Area.
The people I know from the burn are going out in 360 directions from that. Or even 60600 directions. Trying to corral on basis of age, class, ability, religion, gender... just kinda futile. Some broad trends, perhaps, but those are not near universal...

Yup, once again I agree. The burn has broadened my associations and enriched my life in ways I never expected, nor even thought possible. (and that's even taking into consideration that I've done acid!

Well, if we're being pedantic, a Birder can be a "naturalist", not all "naturalists" are Birders. Unless you count things like camping and sea-turtles as birds. I mean, sea turtles do lay eggs...

The burn really put age into perspective for me last year. I kind of bummed thinking, "well shit, 30 years, where am I now?" Then I see all these numerically older people, friends and strangers alike, doing and creating great things--starting projects, hobbies, lives at twice my age. Young people, in heart and action.

It's like a role reversal: I see the future in these older people, the past in the young.
