Last night in mid ticket celebration I was doing some poi practice in the back yard and a swarm of butterflies descended on the yard. They continued their dance of joy for my entertainment until the sun set. I've never seen anything like it before.

I guess the universe actually does want me at the burn.

Thank you!

It only took them 6 months to figure it out, and finally do something about it.

Only sad part is, I don't get to drive my forklift any more :(

   Exactly!! Mine has a cardboard top and trash bags tied around it, because of the snow.
The seat was replaced with a lawn chair, my lights are zip tied on, it's suppose to be 4wd, but it's actually 3wd now,
and I used duct tape on the fuel line with trident gum under that. (But I'm not going to tell the new guy)

I used the Champ at an auto auction..moving dead cars, prying locked trunks open, towing dead machinery, dropping Harleys, dropping cars, cruisin' the lot... For shits and giggles, we came flying down to the lower lot with a dead Honda, slammed on the brakes and flipped that little car. Its funny how a forklift can grow on a person.

YAY TM!
I miss my lifts...
I used to drive zoombooms on construction sites. What fun.
I worked in a trans-shipment warehoues that held the Oregon / Washington stocks for Planters /Lifesavers. Any containers that got dropped went to the break room. Running low on honey roasted cashews? Someone make a spill quick!
The warehouse next door was the Phillip Morris stock. Sadly the oopsies had to go in a secure dumpster...

Guys, I'm crazy nervous and crazy excited about this: Today, I'm going to interview an astronaut!

Ok, so here's the story. I volunteer with an organization called Accessible Media Incorporated. They're a non-profit whose primary work is making print and video media accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired.

The audio portion of their work, which is where I and most of the other volunteers are involved, is primarily focused on reading aloud and recording print articles from newspapers and magazines for broadcast. They're broadcast on the second audio program of some cable channels, plus online. They also do some original content, including interviews. Although my primary contribution is in reading, I do about one interview a month, and have done so for about the last 5 years. These are usually 30-minute interviews, and they're with lots of different people -- writers, scientists, politicians, activists, historians, doctors, entertainers, etc.

The audio-visual side of their work involves making "described video" versions of TV shows. Most of the major networks in Canada, and some of the cable channels, have at least a portion of their shows in this format. You use the Second Audio Program to hear it, and you get -- essentially -- a narrator whose voice is interspersed with the dialogue, describing the action ("A tall, slim man in leather chaps walks into the room. He turns to face the Sheriff.") They also have a fair bit of original programming, including interviews and some news programming. Usually, this work is done by blind and visually-impaired employees.

The astronaut interview is kind of a co-production between the audio and audio-visual sides of the organization; it will be broadcast on both streams. The interviewee is Marc Garneau, Canada's first astronaut. He's also a politician, but we'll be talking specifically about space stuff. Because the audio side of the organization is involved, and because I've done a lot of interviews with scientists, I was asked to do this one! I'm super-excited because... it's an astronaut! But I'm super-nervous, because it's going to be filmed (I would actually have turned it down, except for the chance to talk to an astronaut). Squeeee!

Thanks, Bin! Will certainly post a link. Not sure if the video will be online, but the audio certainly will.

The video will be a very low-budget production. They only have one camera, so the interviewee will be filmed during the actual interview, and I'll be filmed re-asking the questions after he's departed. Since I'm not an actress, that might come across rather... odd. Apparently, this is a common technique known as a "one-camera interview," but it seems strange to me.

The audio version of the interview, will use the original audio (i.e. the actual questions, as I asked them at the time), so I'm guessing it will actually be a better product.

Thanks, wh...sh :) But sorry; there was no kissing. A couple of warm handshakes; that was it.

The interview went well, I think. The audio version (20 minutes long) will be broadcast on Canada Day (July 1). The video will be (only 6 minutes!) will be broadcast repeatedly throughout the summer and will be posted on youtube  . I won't get to see it before it airs, so if it's horrible, I'll just have to deal.

The astronaut (I should probably call him Dr. Garneau, but the astronaut sounds so much more exciting) was very charming and a lovely interview subject. The re-asks were weird -- I had to do a lot of takes of some of them, because I would forget my line, or look away from my prescribed focal point, or just generally panic and forget how to talk  . But the astronaut wasn't there to see any of that; as far as he knows, I was very professional.
